Week 1 - Guitar

Ok as stated in my previous blog this is now the begining of my weekly guitar schedule blogthing. Reasons for this are stated in my previous blog. As I said before what I do each will will be defined more as I go on, so to begin with it's going to be rather unspecific. Also note that since this week is christmas week and all that I may not have the time to practice much..so this week is kinda screwy all the way around.

Goals this week:

1. Learn basic chords and practice them. This also includes being able to switch between them.

2. Continue learning how guitar is applied in music notation and learning a few basic songs out of the books I have in music notation.

3. Begin learning a few songs that I enjoy by bands I like. I'll be doing this using tab since I wouldn't be able to do it otherwise.

4. Continue practicing scales and building up dexterity in my hands.

5. Try not to look at my hands when playing so I can learn the sounds and learn finger placement.

So that's what I'm going to be trying to do this week, and this will probably carry over for many weeks to come.

Remember when you're doing finger exercises to play it VERY SLOWLY until you can play it FLAWLESSLY, and then gradually increase tempo.

All good things to work on. You might be spreading yourself a little thin, but maybe not. Definitely work the chords and scales.

Switching cleanly between chords takes a lot longer than a week to learn. C to G was particularly hard for me. But maybe you got some natural dexterity to help you along. Good luck.

yes i know, it will take awhile before i can do it. the point of this is to list goals im trying to do and check my progress each week, and as i said these goals will carry on for a long while.

use your pinky on high E when you make your G chords instead of your ring finger. it'll feel awkward at first, but it makes things like switching from G to C much easier.

If you're interested I can share a Yngwie Malmsteen Guitar Lesson e-book with you. However since you're fairly new you'd probably find some of the stuff down right impossible right now. You could use it for when you get better though.

I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now. Bass for almost 3. I'm much better at bass than guitar. But I'm still decent at guitar.

If you're really committed to playing you'd probably surpass my skill level in a few months. I'm an on and off guitar player really.
