Poetry has become interesting, akin to deciphering a puzzle, but with words. Langston Hughes and Elizabeth bishop. hmm the key, what is the purpose, ask this and then read it again, and u see some sense.
here's my attempt to step into their shoes.
why.
too much to eat, too fat.
too far too fast, eat less.
despite your athletic disposition, halt it.
a fuel, hunger's fuel, anger's fuel, fuel for fuel.
fuel for energy and perhaps for filling in time.
Watch it.
Not 2 bowls, but 1.
carbohydrates, glistening...
your weight, beauty, watch it closely.
in your mind, keep it there on leash.
Mind your shape, for a fitting sweater won't fit an unfitting shape.
but wait!
Child, still hungry let me help you.
have some carrots and brocoli.
soothed with green,
The skin stays smoothe,
unblemished, saved from size.
carve your figure, mold it, trim it,
decorate.
Who cares
Child, fill your full.
banish that leash for it leashes you, not your beauty.
a leash tied to a destination where there is a master.
Be the master.
Let no leash tie you down.
Be your own, let not your beauty be painted.
Paint your beauty? Become faceless, plastic, another mockery.
See that girl?
See her closely!
Not her elegance, not her perfection.
Hair colored heaven, breasts defying physics, legs strung with foam, Look not!
Look past her scented lips and mascara eyes and see her!
The sad destination she is. Worthy only to be looked at, the twist in her mouth alone, her sad existence, leashed to beauty.
Child
be not that girl.
Fill yourself.
True beauty is unpainted, flows from your very smile, not the rags you cover yourself with.
