most people who play starcraft at this forum's level do so because of an urge to better themselves in some way, because we find that fun. improvement = fun... even if your goal isn't being a progamer. starcraft is a nice, controlled system where you get instant feedback and can see and feel your improvement quickly. if you just wanted to do something mindless, you'd play WoW or watch TV. it's the same reason people have hobbies like playing instruments or chess/bridge/whatever. see flow.

when transferring this to trying to improve in the "real world".. it's much harder to see and measure, and you're not always sure that what you're doing is going in the right direction. after you read a book, you don't see your intelligence points go up or get to test yourself out on ICCUP. this usually makes it less fun in the short-term, but it's definitely more rewarding over the long term. good luck. once you feel like you can control yourself, come back to starcraft, it's one of the most demanding and fun hobbies i know of.

I don't see the big idea by quitting completely but i guess that's your choice. i would have suggested playing two games a week or even one game a week. just doesn't seem great to cut it off completely. your partially correct though there's many things to do. but if you're not completely satisfied, why live life so tedious?

you have said you love writing books too, then GOGOGOG

I wonder whats the success rate of a TLnetter for quitting SC altogether is? (stop watching VOD, playing, etc)

I still play SC once or twice a week, at least 20 mins or so. I try to get better but little bit at a time. Play other games too though, lol
