With the ongoing pandemic I've had quite a bit of time on my hands, so I've recently come out of retirement and am going pro (again) in StarCraft: Remastered. My first venture is conquering Bombastic Starleague (BSL), which is like the OSL of the foreign scene. In short, it's THE StarCraft tournament for foreigners with insane production values and a cool group stage into elimination bracket. Unfortunately, in the ongoing ninth season of BSL I fell short of qualifying for Proleague in the ladder stage, so I've placed in the league just below - Gosuleague. I frantically tried to qualify in the last 36 hours before the deadline without having played few if any games prior. This wasn't the first time I tried to qualify on such short notice. I made that same mistake in BSL6 , but I had actually qualified without knowing, only to, in a moment of tragedy, play one more game that I ended up losing which prevented me from qualifying for Proleague. The silver lining is that I ended up winning that season of Gosuleague.
Now I find myself in Gosuleague again, hoping to recreate that success. In my eager anticipation to compete I immediately saw the groups once they were announced for the Ro32.
My group Ty2 Wallace Just jamesuh
Thoughts On How This Group Is Gonna Go: A group of Two Protosses, and Two Zergs is right up my alley considering my TvZ has been pretty weak. All in all I feel so-so about my chances of advancing, but as of late I have been indulging in too many short sighted aggressive plays, namely 4 and 5 pools. That said, against my opponent in the first match, Wallace, I'm really tempted to do a 5 pool. I just get the impression that he's the kind of player to go for a vanilla fast forge expand, not like there's anything wrong with vanilla, and that plays into my 5 pooling hands nicely. I am worried though that Wallace is reading this, which in that case I'm not sure if 5 pooling is a good option still, if it ever was in the first place.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll face the winner of Just vs Jamesuh, a match which could go either way. And then hopefully I'll advance first.
The matches are to be played this weekend and I'll let you know how that goes, along with my thoughts on the ro16 group draw.
Edit: oops a mistake was made when groups were created so my group might change.
Edit 2: Okay, groups were remade and here is my ACTUAL group:
Thoughts: I don't know anything about this Sabbath guy whose name sounds pretty menacing. Both Techito and Jiraiya I'm familiar with and don't have any huge worries about, not to sound overconfident or anything. I'm thinking this could be a lick splickety group for me.

4pool is my bread and butter.

Since I've never seen it really answered, why do most players at the top level opt for 5 pool rather than 4? Is pumping nonstop lings unsustainable with 4 or something else?

I think this is because the timing to 6 lings with a 5 pool is only a few seconds slower than a 4 pool. In case the enemy is able to stabilize (but you inflict a lot of damage) you can transition to a "normal" game better than from a 4 pool if you have to.

As a terran player 4 pool is much stronger than 5 pool. If map allows and scouted properly, you get the ling in your base before the marine pops out, while for 5 pool I will have my 1 marine pop out just in time to fight together with SCVs.

also, at least in korea, the number 4 is associated with death/bad luck so going for a 4 pool is considered bad.
