Having shown v1 that playing Terran is really hard by thoroughly defeating him with the OP strat of 4 pool in a previous encounter, I decided to focus on my next big goal: a macro win against a player who I have only beaten through cheesy strats in the past. As a prideful Terran player who considers TvZ his bread and butter, it was time to send a message home:
And thus began another day of crazy encounters on the bloody hills of Heartbreak Ridge.
Game 1: 1 rax fe vs 3 hatch lurker. He goes for a frontal bust and stops my mining for a bit, but I also go for his third at the same time. However, a slow reaction means I didn't get to do any damage at all and my small army was eliminated. As I build up my army, he takes the top half of the map and my biggest attempt fizzles out as I'm caught unseiged leading to an eventual gg due to an eco advantage:
v1 1-0 Bigfan
Game 2: 1 rax fe vs 3 hatch lurker/muta. I manage to get a mini-contain and mismicro+overstim to lose my first army to some lurkers. I manage to keep his lurker count low with my troops, but he goes for mutas and being someone who's rarely used them, I opted to skip out on turrets. This caused a lot of SCVs to be pulled and/or killed and denied mining+turrets to be put up etc... I manage to kill his third, but lost that army. From there, he takes map control and takes several bases. The rest of the game was defending his constant ultra attacks at my exp and killing at least 2 more bases, but his bank from his earlier stronger eco finished me off eventually:
v1 2-0 Bigfan
Game 3: Much like game 1 though my defense was probably worse due to a supply block. I denied my enemies' potential third at 1 with good mnm micro so he contains that army with 2 lurkers and expands to the rest of the top bases. With my army contained at my exp until I have enough tanks to kill his lurkers, he takes all over the map. I do eventually kill and/or damage his bases through vultures, mnm etc... but his eco is too great. An unexpected drop supply blocked me and wrecked havoc in my main. I lasted a bit longer, but was no match for a 4-5 base Zerg:
v1 3-0 Bigfan
Game 4: The final game of the night, it was time to put it all on the line. It was time to get revenge for all the losses from today and from past years. Can I do it? Can I finally win a macro game? Tune in to find out!
So.. play until v1 is too tired to remember to make hive tech units. I see, I see. Solid strat. 2/11
Seriously though, watching lurkers run into unseiged tank lines and then watching them run into a sieged tank line is so brutal on both sides. It's actually quite amazing that v1 almost always catch your tanks unsieged. Congrats on your first "macro" win ever! GG

haha the thing is, v1 has his own style of play. He goes for big surrounds with massive zergling+lurker armies. Sometimes he'll open mutas (does it almost all the time these days) and sometimes he'll go lurkers. Sometimes he'll do several lurkers into mutas. He also never used defilers before, but I've managed to convince him that they are a good unit that he should use. Swarm+plague is the OPest combo in the game for bio players like myself.
Yes, engagements decide the flow of the game. Had I lost that engagement near his 6, I would've lost this game. I'm almost confident of that because he would've saturated his 6 and with 4 bases (or was it 5 by this point), he would've easily surpassed my eco and went for ultraling+lurker. He spreads out his overlords and has zerglings all over the map so he sees whenever I move out. He also watches out for drops and almost always has scourge in place to intercept. Thanks! The first of many ^^
I didn't see any surrounds that video? Ultras are hive tech too and he was making those in other games from what I can see. I'm impressed that he nearly always seem to catch your tanks unseiged. Though it might be the case that you travel across the map slowly and without seiging, he must have good map vision and consistently uses army hotkeys irregardless. To be honest I thought the game was over at 6 mins into the video which must be about 18 mins real time.
If you are open to advice, if v1 does a lurker opening and contain you again, there should be a timing window when terran have the first science vessel and you can push out with your tanks and marines and just go kill the Zerg. Just make sure to reinforce and protect that science vessel. If there is a counterattack, it's fine as your buildings can fly and Zerg can't. Also I can't be too sure but it looks like you didn't get it +1 attack on tank, as it is well worth it.

This was an older game, but I managed to keep up the pressure too. That drop was unexpected on his part and losing the third plus drones at this exp was big+I scouted incoming mutas. Yes, if you watch the minimap, he always has lings or overlords in sight so he sees when I move out. The game was in my favour before I ran my army into his hydra lurker amy and lost most of it and my tanks.
As for the advice, ya, I realize there is. My control has been pretty bad lately for whatever reason and my macro goes out of control as the game gets busier and we get into the late game. A work in progress since from my perspective, fixing my macro would be more than enough to win games more consistently. As for the +1 attack, I tend to forget upgrades for mech units but I've been working on it and it makes a difference. Thanks for the comment.
I thought the game was a recent game. Nevermind then. The videos where you lose are the most entertaining videos. Keep posting them! Btw no timer on the videos really throws me off nowadays, but I suppose that's how you play.

Ok that makes sense, as opposed to le quote by BigFan implying that you don't know about Hive tech, which just did not make sense to me, give your level of skill.
but I've managed to convince him that they are a good unit that he should use. Swarm+plague is the OPest combo in the game for bio players like myself.

At least he's been putting effort into these write-ups
(I feel bad for constantly prodding at him since he's showing his losses crushing defeats now and he's still writing blogs on his games, so I am attempting to defend him ^^)

Much more effort than flashftw does in his games, except lol. He seems to like that one quite a bit So much for being a Flash fan. Granted, I stole that title from him in 2018 so his new nick should be LoLFTW haha
