Anyway, all games were played on Destination and MU was ZvT.
Game 1
I open 12H with the plan being to play as standard as I know how to. I decide I wouldn't bother with mutas though, since I'm really not used to windowed mode. I send my first Overlord directly to his natural. As the Hatchery in my expansion finishes there is still no sign of his scouting SCV. But my Overlord does get a glimpse of something else moving out of his base - Marines! That seemed a little odd. In retrospect, I should have known what that meant.
Sure enough, as my first 6 lings were crossing one of the bridges out of my natural I bump into Marines. Oh, crap. I try to lure them away, or, failing that, pick a few off. They aren't controlled like how a human would control them, they move much more individually and carelessly. However there are too many, I lose a few drones and my lings so I fall back to my ramp where I start a Creep Colony. I stall with lings until my Sunken finishes, counting on the AI not to be able to run Marines up the ramp while they are being attacked. Luckily for me, that prediction is correct; one Sunken and a few lings stop his rush completely.
Years of playing Sunken Defense finally paying off! <3
I starting droning and teching to Lurkers, assuming reclaiming my natural wouldn't be a problem with them. Especially since I don't see any medics with those Marines that are dancing restlessly in my nat. Krasi0 still hasn't taken his nat and my Overlord has only been seeing Marines moving out. I guess he's stuck in some rush loop so I have all the time in the world to macro up and tech inside my base.
When my Lurkers finish I move out and quickly retake my natural. Now having Lurkers burrowed behind the bridges I feel perfectly safe. Siege Tanks do eventually come, but at that point I already have Dark Swarm so my lings just pick those off. At this point krasi0 still hasn't even expanded to his natural. As a few more of my Hatcheries finish I start macroing units and sending them towards his base. He quickly ggs.
1-0
Game 2
I start with 9 pool speedlings, with the idea being that I'll abuse the way he micros Marines, or at least apply some pressure on him. However he makes a bunker on top of his ramp...
That doesn't look like a ling tight wall to me.. DOH
- which discourages me from any sort of harass so I focus on expanding quickly instead. I also tech to Lurkers with the idea of containing him. That works great and gives me a lot of time to macro, with only issue being random Wraiths that pretty carelessly wonder over my bases and kill my drones.
Kasi0 breaks my contain soon enough, having amassed infantry (which now includes Medics!), Tanks and Science Vessels. Even an odd Wraith and Vulture accompany that strange and scary army of his. Truly I underestimated his macro and the danger I was in. His units move out of the Dark Swarms I cast while a part of his Marines branches off to attack my 3rd expansion and make short work of it.
My Defilers get Irradiated and I have no Scourges to get rid of the pesky Vessels. I really come apart under his pressure and my attempts at fighting back continue failing so I am soon forced to resign.
1-1
Unfortunately, I lose the replay straight away. But here are a couple of screenshots from BWChart for our first game. (Right Click -> View Image to see it in full size.)
3000 max APM signals a very kimchi heavy diet, imo.
Having the roughly same distribution of select commands as a human would is rather interesting, I think. Apart from the purple move command and the 0x91 command, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Of course, the AI doesn't use unit groups.
"0x91"? Was he trying to dial 911 when my lings entered his base? kekeke
After mourning the loss of that replay, and, well.. the decisive loss of the actual game against the AI, I set on playing Game 3.
Game 3
I open with 12H and again get visited by his scouting SCV (like in g2, and unlike the first game we played). My Overload scouts his FE and a defensive bunker he places behind the two bridges that lead to his natural.
This time the bunker doesn't scare my lings. I run out of its range and then give running my lings into his base a try.
keke, don't mind us.. we're just passing through!
My assumption that the AI wouldn't understand the importance of blocking its ramp from lings proves correct. The 8 speedlings then basically won me the game.
krasi0 actually gged when my Lurkers got into his natural expansion.
2-1
Conclusion
This was amazing! These matches got me really exciting about playing vs AI and using them for practice and for fun games. I'm really interested in how they will continue to grow in strength. Also, it would be really cool and interesting to hear from devs of the bots.
Thanks for reading.
Oh, and if anyone is interested in watching the stream - here it is (sorry for bad production quality).
G1 starts @ 12:27
G2 starts @ 29:15
G3 starts @ 54:56
