Today marks 10 years. And what a joy it has been to be apart of this TeamLiquid community. I’ve never been that much of someone to give to the forum itself, but this forum has given me so much and I try to give back in ways that I can.
Hospitality; housing people for tournaments, carpooling to events, meeting up with nerds, organizing mafia, hosting "SZBBQ", dc dinners, and more. I have had over 50 people from tl crash at my families house. (People who have visited/crashed can attest to my parents hospitality, they truly are wonderful and I am very grateful for them opening up their house to strangers ) Probably over 150 esports people have been to my "SZBBQ" over the years. I started writing down a list of all the TL nerds I've meet, it hit went over 200.
My life has changed quite a bit from my college days. I work full time in Hvac, been in and out of relationships, I picked up Swing dancing and that has taken up my gaming time. I'd say its just a hobby, but as many of you know when you play StarCraft, especially bw, it wasn't just a hobby. For me it is incredibly difficult to just be casual when I first found out about teamliquid, about iccup. I saw the truth, the light. What it took to be good, and even to just be C was challenging. Even D+ made you better than 99% of the people who ever played StarCraft. There is something special about people who play(ed) competitive StarCraft. A bit of that has become apart of who I am. So, honestly i'm not surprised some of that passion, and drive has manifested itself in my dance. Enough of that, back to bw.
disciple recently made a post as well about his 10 years. He remarked about how special it is meeting a starcraft nerd (I would say especially a broodwar nerd), how it didn't quite match up if it was someone from dota, or league, etc. I can't really stress how much this resonates with me. I have a list of TL nerds I've love to meet some day, hundreds of cities, dozens of countries that if i visit, i know i'll find a friendly face. Even if I haven't meet them before, I just have a feeling that its going to be ok. I can really only think of one bad experience in these 10 years, even so that small blemish is easily lost the the hundreds of positive experiences over the years. I'm currently looking into traveling to Korea for my first time in Oct. Just thinking about it gets me excited to meet up with tl nerds over there. The last 10 years have been fantastic, but the next 10 years are going to get better.
Some highlights in no particular order.
Doing a Shot of Jinro with Jinro TS-Rupbar a Swed crash the weekend of MLG DC. Not stealing Kawairice's toothbrush at WCG nationals 2009 Banning Idra/machine/drewbie DC kbbq dinner with Day9 First DC lan First Psistorm BW lan (took first lol) Road trip with luckyfool to West Virginia. Getting a sick ass picture with The Dong himself. + Show Spoiler + Hitting 200apm in a BW game. Top 8 in the Hello Goodbye tournament. The GMU CSL team Managing FIN Calling atombombforpeace to pick me up, only to learn that i gave him the wrong dates of my arrival for the MLG. (he still got me) Blizzcon, got to see blink-182 Orb, sorry for throwing icecream on you. Mining minerals with bw nerds. Meeting up with Fanatacist Lunch with WriteRa and nerds Remeeting Vghost who swing dances. Lazer tag with ilikestarcraft Going to Magnum's Wedding. Meeting him and Sentenal for the first time there as well. Lunch with Flamewheel and Simba Carpooling back from MLG while tofu and GMarshal stalling the SHIT out of my car while i was hungover. House sitting for Muffins. Life advice from Dave
Circle Jerk? Life is ever changing friends come and go. Reminiscing about the past can be a wonderful thing. If we meet, how goes life? Even if its been years. Fond memories?
If you are ever in the DC area, feel free to hit me up. I'll try to make some time, we can grab lunch, maybe grab a beer (its on me).

Storrzerg the way you've hosted so many bbqs over the years is epic. You have always been such a friendly and giving nerd buddy to everyone. The only thing you ever asked for in return was my bear semen.

Nice blog SZ, lots of good times over the years for sure. I think technically you were the first TL person I met in person all those years ago, at one of the LAN’s at your house you’d have with high school buddies that you invited me to after we realized we lived so close, back even before the official first DC LAN. Another memory is ditching out of class early when sc2 beta came out and going straight to your place because you had access on day 1, went over and played for hours...then I think the next day I had my own beta key lol.
One of the most memorable road trips for me was when we went to spectate WCG USA finals in NYC. That was essentially the beginning of some great years for me with the TL/bw/sc2 community and really inspired me to start hosting DC LAN’s, and being an active part of the local community for a good 3-4 years.
While I have drifted from the community in recent years as times have changed, the years that I was active I will always cherish. Lots of excellent people and great memories made over the years at MLG’s, local LAN’s, road trips to events, mafia games and everything else.

Hi! Most of you probably remember me about as well as I remember my email/pw for my actual TL acct (Krackling, of Snow Reaver mini-fame http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/96414-reaver-scarab-and-drone-a-still-life). Repeat SZBBQ attendee/founding CSL team member/token 5-pooler.
Disciple and Storr are 100% correct. There’s something so enduring and endearing about the experiences and history we all have with Starcraft, even if you don’t touch the game for years. I honestly couldn’t explain that, but I CAN say that Storr is the linchpin for me, and presumably a lot of others as well. So glad I happened upon the TL post that put us in touch back in 2008-9. It does and always will mean a lot.

Haha, oh man that was a fun event. Watching tsl in at a lan, A case of soju was cheap compared to dc. The Tsl after party was such a fun night.

Thinking about it, I think you are right. First tl person I met. Thx for the adventures. I'm fairly certain at least one of the road trips was last min. Maybe wv. Randomly found a couch to crash on after the lan. Such good people.
Still in va right? Check out celebrate fairfax, psistorm gaming is going to be there.

Thx mate. That moment was amazing. 4 nerds in oz jackets, seeing Jaedongs face light up. Not allowed to take a picture with the bw pros, but luckily jaedong was on the edge. You captured a wonderful moment.

Because of you I found Teamliquid. We had a mutual friend who introduced us, and we played online. You smashed me with a +1 timing 3 games in a row. I didn't know what the fuck to do. Ended up finding a +1 carapace guide from mondragon, and copied that build. Thats when i found out about build orders. I think after that i won the next 4 games. I think that mini series sparked our mutual drive to get better

Congrats on the 10 years ^_^ It's been a long time since MLG, and a long time since the KESPA players were there.
Hopefully it's not too long before I can make it out to DC ^^

Congrats on 10 years.
I remember practicing with you back in the day on Broodwar, and then meeting you, luckyfool, and magnum in DC. I'm sad I was never able to make it to one of the DC LANs or nerd dinners. It's unfortunate that you'll be getting to Korea after I leave, but perhaps I could try to get some vacation time around then to say hi and watch some live Starcraft.

You are a nice guy

We've never met in person, but I can say that you are exactly the sort of friendly, cool nerd that both drew me to TL in the first place and keeps me coming back. You DC TLers are a fine bunch
