Game 1, ZvT: Pure macro win. I had an overlord sitting at the edge of his natural and when I saw his command center flying out to it at around the 8 minute mark, I knew I could kill him. Lings/Banelings with a Muta/Ling followup meant an easy win.
Game 2, ZvP: Another pure macro win. I just had more shit than he did and better economy to back it all up. He died when he tried to move out and my army caught him off guard.
Game 3, ZvZ: Not a matchup I'm comfortable with. At my level, it's basically a race to Mutas. I apparently lost. My macro was bad because of the amount of counter-attacking I was doing - I also apparently forgot to man one of my geysers at one point. Whoops. I'm pretty sure my loss was due to over-droning, and a quick glance at SC2R more or less confirms that.
The biggest lessons from tonight are:
1) I'm still good enough to stay in Gold, I just need to iron out mechanics details so I can actually progress upwards.
2) I need to figure out a build that I like for ZvZ. The 17hatch, 17gas, 17pool opener that I've been using in every matchup is not inherently bad, but I just feel icky using it in that matchup. Suggestions would be welcome - I'm not looking for something cheesy, but I am looking for something that can transition between "wait, he has nothing, let me cut drone production and go kill him" or "oh, he's got some pressure going - I'm going to need to slow this one down and try to out-macro him". Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
2-1 today, not a bad way to build on last night. Hopefully I'll get to play more than 3 games tomorrow evening!
