So I stopped playing (read, failing) on iCCup back in 2011, but I've been having fun on PTR for the past few days. The game has really changed, and that's really surprised me. I've also been watching a lot of pro streams, where I've been noticing the same stuff.
Here are some big strategic differences I'm noticing (from a Zerg perspective):
ZvP:
1. Protoss almost always is sending 2-4 zealots to the third to punish zerg if he's just droning. Boo. 2. Dark archons! Protosses are very clever with this. They'll run around hunting your expos with DTs and then when it goes to late game they'll make dark archons and maelstrom+storm to keep you from storm dodging and thus ruin your poor poor hydra army. 3. Forge FE is not automatic anymore. There's a lot more 1gate FE (and a lazier attitude towards corsairs in general) straight to the aforementioned zealot aggression.
ZvT 1. Vultures, vultures everywhere. Spider mines too. 2. The standard seems to be bio and then a mech transition in the early late game (rather than straight mech from the start). Zergs are handling this in the late, late game with Queens, of all things. Hilarious - and shocking. I remember when Queens were a joke. I loved ZerO because he was steadfast in his belief that Queens were amazing and now it seems that other Zergs are coming over to his way of thinking. Spawn Broodling does wreck a mech army if done right, but queens are gas intensive and take forever to accrue energy (especially for Spawn broodling, which is super expensive energy-wise). 3. Terrans aren't staying home for the muta harass much anymore. They seem to have realized that the Zerg is sweating bullets about his 3rd and that moving out to threaten the 3rd is a far more effective way of deterring the harass than turtling and overbuilding turrets.
ZvZ 1. Spore colonies are happening. They used to just be something beginning players who hated ZvZ built to try some kind of hydra ling, but I'm seeing them even on pro streams (although they rarely play ZvZ, so I guess it's kinda hard to tell).

I can definitely attest to this change. I've lost several ZvTs because the Terrans have been more aggressive with the bio pushes, which I didn't expect. Fascinating to see the BW meta is still evolving.

I've always thought it was a bit silly to camp out at home with several turrets when really, an attack on the third would be a more effective deterrent. Not only does it force the zerg to pull back his units to defend, it also gives you the initiative, a chance to fortify your own base (effective if you made late turrets) and if you play it well, you might even take out the third too to gain the eco advantage.
I've won games simply because I chose to ignore the muta harass and went for the third. Once I took it out, I had the eco advantage still, had a small army and denied the zerg that gas to tech up etc...

I encourage all Zergs to open 9 pool in ZvP so that this stupid meta will go the fuck away.

Does 9pool really beat 1gate fe? I've been stomping noobs on bnet cause I'm too bad for iccup right now, but are 6 lings really effective against 2 lots? Does it hit before they can get their second lot or what? Everyone's just forge fe'ing on bnet.

The trick is to ignore the zealots and run for the probe line.

no 9pool does not beat 1gate. 9pool speed is super strong tho.
