Also, playing chess in person at tournaments I stopped being nervous after the first few games. The reason to play chess outside of a competitive environment is either for fun or to become better at a competitive environment. There's little point in being the best in the world at a competive act if one isn't able to perform to that level during the actual competitions (a similar thing would be LAN for dota, or ranked at a smaller scale) 4k behavior score is also really low and also almost certainly part of your issue with climbing MMR. An improved mentality may do you immensely more good than any improvement of mechanics. At its core dota is about teamwork.

I originally started playing with a rl friend who never calibrated, but from my 4k games I'd guess he is around 5k and my first games I fed and fed and fed. I played like 3 pvp matches of dota 1 and 10 HoN matches before playing dota 2. I eventually ranked up to 3k and stopped playing ranked, but I play a lot with low 4ks and I'm more often the best player than the worst. Playing with stronger people definitely makes you stronger if you don't give up and are good enough to get what they are doing.

Playing with 5k+ when your 1,5k is just plain retarded. Your own Performance will just skew the game so horribly, its not a normal game anymore. Your physically just so much worse than anyone else, that you won't learn, you will just get trashed.
