There this year 2016, there has been the new Doom released.
As I reflect upon the impact the first Doom had on me..
It was the first game during those early years, when the computer ( PC )
was still in the incipient stage of development.
The mouse was there too, that peripheral hardware unit we used to navigate.

And incidentally the first person I saw playing doom was using the mouse..
It was unquestionably the shareware version of doom ( thus all ongoings contained within the knee deep in the dead episode )

They weren't using the mouse in a professional manner. They were repeatedly rubbing the mouse against the mousepad, to move the player through the environment..
and some experienced computer personage was guiding them through the second level..

I wanted to know.. Or rather I was wondering is there a link, a connection between Doom and StarCraft.

StarCraft there is denotative of the ENTIRE starcraft.. Original, brood war, to Lord of the Void...

Is there a correlative interest between both the games?
There might be a bridge, or a rift dividing the two games.

There is marine being the front-line of defense in any terran colony.
while in doom the marine is the singular hero.

The music in doom was this moody repetitive soundtrack..
in starcraft the soundtrack is demi-epic

And obviously the gameplay..

Did or does anyone here still devote attention to that game?
or did they both originate from opposing ( or disparate ) areas of interest..

This question seems right up my alley haha so i'll toss you a response.

My first major games that I came across for PC gaming was not doom but Wolfenstein 3D and Dune 2 so early on I had already experienced both of the genres that would become my favorites. I would take a guess that I played doom for the first time in 1995 or 1996. I barely remember playing the game as a kid since it was so long ago but something must have stuck with me over all this time because I could easily recall most of the layouts in Doom and Doom 2. Everything about doom was fantastic, the weapon sounds, death animations, beastiary level design and music by Bobby Prince.

Not surprisingly, each of these qualities I just mentioned were present in a little game we know and love called starcraft. The single player was awesome but the game really shined on battlenet which was my first foray into online gaming with friends. I didn't even play the ladder all that much but instead quickly found out about used map settings games and played different unique custom maps almost everyday after school.

Not unlike starcraft, doom also had a dedicated community that created tons of free content for the community but I never really knew about this until around 2011. I was grinding my way up the ladder even hitting GM in wings of liberty while buying the occasional steam game on the side. I came across doom again 16 years later and immediately bought it off steam and excitedly booted it up. After I tore through the forces of hell for a second time in the shareware episode, one of my terran practice partners (knightofni) told me to download a source port called zdoom and to check out scythe.wad, whatever the hell that was.....

http://doomwiki.org/wiki/ZDoom
http://doomwiki.org/wiki/Scythe

zdoom was the beginning of the end for sc2. The 1/1/1 era of PvT was annoying enough in wings but then came the nail in the coffin. Can't remember the patch but everyone knows about the late game turtle games in PvZ where long stalemates of BL/Infestor vs mothership took place. With HOTS rapidly approaching, I much quit RTS all together for the very first time to check out doom mods and wads. Even 5 years later, I have not exhausted all of the content in doom by a long shot.

Looking at the recent release of doom 4, it's interesting to me that both D4 and SC2 did not do a great job for allowing players to create and showcase their user made content compared to the predecessors BW and classic doom. SC2's arcade system was always a failure in my eyes where the system made it nearly impossible for lesser known UMS to compete against the incredibly awesome! tug of war games...... Doom 4's snapmap was inhibited greatly due to prefabs, a trigger system that is very tedious for more complicated tasks and a monster limit of 64.

Funny, that both of my favorite games would end up releasing sequels that failed to live up to their previous titles for the creation of custom content.

@KingDime

Your childhood sounds almost exactly like mine. I was born in 1990, and by 1993-1994 I had already played a handful of PC games, including Spear Of Destiny, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Dune//Dune II, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, etc. Dune, Doom, and also games like Quest For Glory and Betrayal At Krondor.

Those games were the predecessors of the genres we love today. More or less, Wolfenstein 3D for FPS and Dune II for the RTS genre. (For the most part)

It's great looking back.....I wish everyone knew their PC history.

I would love to say I know a ridiculous amount about PC history but when you're a massive blizzard fanboy other games don't get bought. Realistically, I haven't played that all that many games because everything I got into or bought were massive time sinks.

I could nearly count the games I played on my hands between brood war and starcraft 2.

-Gran Turismo 3
-GTA Vice City
-GTA SA
-WC3 (Ladder + Dota)
-C + C Tiberian Sun + Firestorm
-Deus Ex
-Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast
-Wow (BC, WOTLK)
-Diablo 2
-Baldur's Gate 2
-Age of Empires + Age of Mythology
