So 3 weeks ago my iPhone was stolen in my pocket while I was at a party.
Was pretty pissed off about it but I got over it and bought a new one.
I iCloud locked it with a message giving my friend's phone number. So I live in switzerland, and a week later my phobe is localized somewhere in Romania for a couple minutes before being switched off again.
Today my friend received a link to some sort of romanian craigslist where some dude is selling my iphone (the photo shows the iphone screen with the lost message and my friend's phone number) for 130€.
I have no clue what to do, should I try buying it back ? Or contact the local police somehow ? Or just cut my losses and call it a day.
Has anyone ever experienced something like this ?

Definitely get the police involved - there should be a non-emergency number you can call.

Once upon a time my Logitech G1 Mouse got stolen at my university.
Since the mouse was already EOL back then for a long time and I was reasonably attached to the mouse (4x rank1 World Red Alert 2), I decided to look for it.
Found the mouse on "Marktplaats", (an Craigslist equivalent in the Netherlands) for 30euro's the next day and decided I would check the mouse and confront him about it(maybe with the police) once I confirmed it was my mouse.
Once I got there, it was in one of the worst neighbourhoods of my city and came into an big building with few escape routes. In the apartment were about 7-9 "friends" (mostly gangsterish guys, unfortunately for my prejudice, they were all "foreigners". I had hoped they were white-trash...) of his and he showed me the mouse. I instantly KNEW it was my mouse, but I unfortunately couldn't prove that to the police (mouse was already 6 years old).
I decided to just give the guy the 30euro's and gtfo, since I wasn't comfortable there in the slightest.. In the end I decided to let it go. I still have the mouse to this day and in the end I'm quite content that I have it.
In your case, it is possible to just ask the police if they can/will do something about this. Especially since you're able to prove that the phone is yours. In my case, asking the police before I was 100% certain would be a lost case, in your case it might be possible that they're going to help you.
Do you live in Romania or in France? If it's local I would contact the police. If it is cross-country, I would give up.

I'm guessing one of the people at the party (probably living near you) sold it online to the guy in Romania and he is just reselling it. Would help to find out where the Romanian guy purchased it from to find the real culprit (just my best guess). As for police, it is worth making a report, but when it comes to cross country things, it gets real complicated.

I would very politely ask the seller where he got it from, maybe even offer to buy it in exchange for information. You may not be able to get the police involved, but if you can get a name or address (not a given I know) you could maybe out him as a thief to all your friends and acquaintances.

I don't know man 130€ sounds like a pretty good deal for an iphone.

Trying to arrange cross-country police work about a stolen phone sounds.. bureaucratic at best.
I would rather make a post about it in the community news section if the TL mods don't mind and see if any of our fellow TL Romanians might be able to give you a hand on this so you can get your phone back and maybe find out who the culprit in switzerland was.

Do no rely on these guys posting it, if you do buy it.
What is your other choice - to meet in person and buy it? With known criminals?
The way i see it either choice is very risky.

This is what i would do in such a situation. And i would also notify the police about the seller ad, even with the risk of nothing happening, their involvement might lead to a result.

Romania is pretty far from France right? How many miles?
2 things in life, If it makes you money, or it makes you happy do it. If not, don't waste your time.
If you care about justice, simply call the police and offer the tip about it being stolen. At best you will get your shit back maybe, who cares. However, in the process of that it may uncover other stolen goods and help others.
