The Cover in All Its Glory: https://soundcloud.com/mikhail-garrievitch-soumar/demi-yngwie-piano-cover
Chairman Ray requested the Yngwie tune, but I also wanted to cover a Demi Lovato song. I decided to combine the two ideas for shits and giggles (and also to clear up my project queue a little faster), and it turned out to be the best idea ever.
Both songs end up being (mostly) in the same key, although I ended up finishing the song in a key that neither of the original two were in. Also, "Heart Attack" has several parts that are well-suited to transitioning out of a neoclassical shred song.
This song also has the distinction of having the most recordings per minute of any of my published compositions. To save the time and sanity it takes me to record a song, usually I'll have 3-5 separate recordings composited into one song piecewise. Christmas Love Story was 25 minutes long and is stitched together from 9 takes. Somnia (which was meant to be one continuous song split into 17 movements) is put together from 3 takes.
This cover features a total of 19 takes (out of nearly a hundred) due to the sheer speed of both Yngwie Malmsteen and Jens Johansson, and my desire to come as close to their solos as I can. Of course, Lovato's song was no picnic either, since to maintain a unified sound throughout both I added tons of embellishments of my own throughout her parts.
In fact, if you actually watch the music video for "Heart Attack", you'll find the two guitarists in the back going crazy on their (electric) guitars while the only instrumentation in the song comes from an acoustic guitar. It's my favorite part of the video. I don't have enough guitar prowess to make their thrashing believable, but I do have enough keyboard prowess for this song to require some thrashing of my own.
Anyways, all that aside, enjoy!
