Optimism is the inclination towards believing the good outcome is possible and attainable, probable enough to be worthy of working at. It requires a belief that the good outcome is good enough to attempt to realize. Inherent to it, though often illogically and incorrectly so, is the implied belief that the optimistic outlook itself is important and worth having and somehow tied to the actual realization of the good outcome.
Optimism, at least the good kind, carries with it a strong sense of agency. Human effort is needed to bring about good outcomes, and the clever optimist is ever critical of what aspects of one's approach might need improvement so as to best bring about the good result.
