I posted a blog in September with a lot of lofty goals, I pretty much failed all of them in the week following. I have been able to make some positive improvements to my life since then. Since September I have

* Quit caffeine
- I was actually really surprised I was able to do this having tried multiple times before and failing. This time I tapered off using pills and it seemed like that made it a lot easier. Really happy with this, falling asleep is way easier. My energy is more consistent throughout the day. Less anxiety
* Quit Weed
- Oh weed you will always have a special place in my heart for the good times but it seems I can't keep you as a once in a while special treat so we can't see each other anymore... When I stopped I had vivid dreams for about a month which were cool when they were nice but there were nightmares as well ): . Feel less anxiety, less self-hate, more productive.

*Alcohol
-Noticed I was craving drinking a lot when I stopped weed. Just decided to nip that one in the bud. Not really a heavy drinker before so not really a big deal.

* New Job
- Found a new web development job that's a lot easier on my hands than my old job (I have carpal tunnel / RSI pain) it's only 35 hours a week. The downside is it's probably retarding my development compared to a more intense position. However it doesn't really matter if I'm a great web developer if I blow out my hands and I think making improvements to my personal life will trickle into my professional.
* Yoga + Exercise
- I've been doing my carpal tunnel yoga pretty consistently and I walk to work now but I think I could be doing better. My injuries prevent me from doing certain things but I there's nothing stopping me from researching and building a routine that works around them.

* Diet
- I've been eating vegan which is good because it blocks me from eating 4 cheesy mcfuckyous. My weed habit lead to a pretty bad fast food thing where I'd like leave my house @ 11 to go to a drive through. I'm still eating kind of unhealthy as a vegan (lots of pan frying) but I get lots more vegetables and I do feel better. I've dropped some body fat and I don't have any of the stomach problems I use to (coffe contributed to those as well)

Goals going forward:
* NoFap
- I know this one is a bit controversial but I've done it before and thought it helped a lot. I have a lot of the same 'bingy' behavior towards porn and jerking off that got me in trouble with weed. I also definitley have an unhealthy 'neck beard' attitude towards women. When I see a hot girl I have lots of negative thoughts about my self, and sort of an angry resentment towards women. I might have to sort that out in therapy but who knows maybe not jerking off will help. I'm about 7 days into it now.

* Internet
- I've sort of tamed reddit by making my default subreddits positive but I still spend a lot of time mindlessly browsing. The internet is tricky because obviously there is lots of good and helpful things on it and you can't just cut it out entirely like weed. So I'm going to target something I know is bad which is twitch/ watching gaming videos.

Once I've accomplished those 2 things for 30 days I'll identify other life leaks and plan on tackling those.

I've noticed that a lot of my bad habit sort of prop each other up (caffeine -> not sleeping) (weed -> fast food) so I've thought of trying to make a diagram showing all the dependencies and start eliminating the more 'foundational' habits. That's pretty nerdy even for me so we'll see lol.

The past 6 months haven't been super great for me. I managed to stagger my way through the last of my degree finishing my last class in July. I blogged about this before but I hit a major roadblock in my software career because of pain I was experiencing that made it hard to work. However I think that I've just been using it as an excuse to devolve into the comfortable but unrewarding state of being a disgusting NEET internet troll.

* Health *
Sleep 8 hours every night
Do yoga for RSI pain 5 days a week
walk 30 minutes a day or do body weight exercises if my leg injury prevents me from walking
Limit caffeine consumption to 100mg a day
Make majority of meals on sunday
Do basic personal hygiene (shower/shave/brush teeth) everyday
Meditate 20 minutes everyday
Use break software on all computer and actually follow it
Find and start seeing therapist
Limit masturbation to 1-2 a week
no drinking
limit cannabis use to 1-2 a week

* Career *
Find a web developer job I can handle with the pain
Only work 35 - 40 hours a week
Disassociate from the ups and downs of developing
Use pen & paper instead of typing when possible
Don't let managers/ pm's exploit my need for approval

* Hobbies *
Quit playing video games / hearthstone / reddit
quit twitch
find new hobbies with face 2 face socialization

Okay dokay let's do it!

Congrats on quitting caffeine and weed, I definetely don't have the willpower to quit all the caffeine I consume. I just finished my uni exams so I have some goals for the next 2 months as well.

Cooking:
I'll be living on my own for about 2 months and want to learn how to do about 10 new recipes.So in the beginning a new recipe every 2 days and then do those on repeat.

Uni:
Haven't done subjects relating to my major for a year so i'll have to do some holiday reading to make sure i'm not way behind my class mates (read 6 pages a day of next sem's textbook).

Also I'll be using Python next semester so I'll have to learn how to do that, any advice is appreciated.

Korean: I've been learning Korean for a while so I'll keep doing that. I want to try and sub an episode of Kim Je-Dong's 'talk to you' as its a pretty simple format and can be appreciated pretty much as a single episode (choose a good episode to sub, learn my way around a subbing program and then sub 10 mins of show time a week).

Some of these are probably worth quitting or cutting down on but some are really not very negative and it's strange that various internet subcultures condemn them and put so much effort in proliferating there opinions.

Be careful with self-help. Though it promotes itself as intrinsically good much of it completely unnecessary.

my programming advice would be to make sure you have an ergonomic setup and to take plenty of breaks so you don't get pain like me lol! I would recommend this tutorial http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/ . As for the caffeine please trust me when I say you will actually be more productive if you quit.

Thanks I just looked at some ergonomic stuff and it turns out I need a much higher chair so I'll get onto that soon. I've got your sight bookmarked so I'll use it after I've had a bit more time to rest, thank you.

I have a C.S degree and I worked 7 months with a 'web developer' title at a contracting place. I guess at my new job people normally start as 'associate web developers' before getting the 'web developer' title, they asked me where I thought my level was and I was like "I had the title web developer at my first job". I guess I'd say I have the equivalent of 1.5 to 2 years of experience. hard for you or your employer to objectively evaluate your skill level really.
