Hello everyone. I want to tell you guys a story about some situations that occured when I played Heroes of the Storm.
Let's first start with a subtlety that is more often annoying than not. In your normal Heroes game, you'd happen to have a fight under the fire of enemy towers! Of course, just like you learned in the very tutorial, you brought your creep wave. However the opponent is not dumb, they focus the creeps first to enable the artillery fire of their towers. And I'm asking you, is there any Hero that enjoys cannon balls left and right to his face (besides PvE yolo Gazlowe, no there isn't).
So you decide to back off. As a decent play, you want to maximize the damage dealt, so you focus an opponent Hero who was dumb enough to step out of his gate - what a fool. Having him slain successfully, you choose to use your escape ability. I mean, I'm currently playing Zeratul, the stealthed master assassin who can teleport himself through the lands of the Nexus. That must mean something, right? Your energised blades cut through the stones and walls of the opponent's fortifications, you resisted the Hammer that Falstad threw at you, you dodged Jaina's shattering ice lance, and you smoothly let the ETC miss his charge at you!
You're a hero, a truely skilled person who just managed to maximize damage and get out alive. Get out alive? Slowly you turn around. You see it.

..and BOOM the little shit hits you in the face. The first thing that I really don't like about Heroes is that you simply cannot dodge fired auto shots from towers and heroes alike. No matter how skilled you are, no matter how good you are at deciding when to get back - there's always the gamble of that one last shot killing you. You cannot (safely) optimize your play. It's not up to you if you can play the best way possible. It's up to the game if it decides to let you live or if it decides to RNG you into the ground.
However. You died. Happens. You deal with it, decide to keep on going, you stay strong and in the end, all the efforts pay off and you win! So yeah, time to re-queue. You choose that awesome assassin again, this time however you are joined by a malfurion, a brightwing and two more assassins. Valla is already readying up her crossbows, you hear some fire sparkling over in Kaelthas' hands as he prepares his deadly spells.
Well, opponent team is Muradin, Diablo, Stitches, Illidan and Gazlowe. You start laughing and win with 4 levels difference.
Wait, what if that happens to you? Yeah, right, frustrating. Balanced hero setups do happen in QM but sometimes, the system will just throw you into a meatgrinder. Ever faced Nova, Zeratul, Illidan, Abathur and Uther? So fun. As a programmer, I already created an easy algorithm for Blizzard to use as the helpful guy that I am:
+ Show Spoiler + if( redSupports.count() != blueSupports.count() ){ game.equalSupports(); } if( redWarriors.count() != blueWarriors.count() ){ game.equalWarriors(); } ...
Not so freaking hard.
That's pretty much it.

int waitTime = 50;
if(supports.count() == 3) { waitTime = 5000; }
if(warriors.count() == 3) { waitTime = 5000; }
|
That's not a necessity and will have positive side effects though. Playing support/warrior will be much more rewarding! Also I can't see that wait time will increase that much. It's not that likely that people queue as a team of three warriors imho.

I'm pretty sure this is standard for all MOBA games. It's pretty obvious if you stay for the extra shot or two from the turret or an auto-attack from a hero...it has nothing to do with luck. Sure, it's a bit more difficult to gauge than, for instance, tower shots in LoL that shoot much slower, but they also do a lot less damage. I'm gonna call bullshit on you for this one. If you're dying to towers or heroes while tower diving, it's not because the game is broken and RNG killed you, it's because you fucked up and didn't calculate correctly ^^.

I listen for the ding of the tower lock on and then blink/phase out just in time. That always makes me feel cool. Still, I understand what you mean in some situations.

I feel like it required much more skill to dodge a shot that's mid air especially since the fire rate is higher than in LoL than to decide to leave early. I mean yes you're right, you're not RNG'ed down, but it feels really really stupid to watch the autoshot missile move towards your position, changing direction mid-air.

Towershots can be dodged in Dota last time I played, what a game.

do blink-like abilities in hots not disjoint tower shots? either way, u shud calculate if u can dive, get a kill and survive. idk why u say its a gamble and theres no skill involved. even in dota, where tower damage is slightly randomised

i'm seriously thinking that if humans evolved in tribes of like 30 people that living in close proximity to 2,000,000 people is going to be a huge problem as we get closer to the protoss era. correct me if i'm wrong but people who lived in groups of 3,000 people seem to be totally confused as to what their personal identity is supposed to be. like can we really be moving forward in time with these moba things or is wow 40-man raids god's best attempt to alert us to the impending population crisis
