So I played some 4v4s after a couple of months and discovered that Blizzard hates team games. That's the only way to explain why they have removed all of the somewhat macro maps and replaced them with a mappool consiting solely of rushfests.
The variety that existed before was almost good - you could ban three rush maps and thus have about 1:1 chance of having a rush map and a macro map. Now there is just one macro map (Scoria Reactor), one map that might be good (the JD-2 thingy), one really stupid map (Fossil Quarry) and a great selection of rush maps of various forms (either very small or people very far from each other).
Why is this necessary? I understand that team games are not the main focus, but why actively hurt them?

i play 2v2s and i'm happy with it. Of course the team i'm on is only in Diamond and the girl i play with is in Silver League... so we prolly are pretty clueless.

2v2 has still pretty good maps, I have written a blog about that not a long time ago. But 4v4 has taken a big hit this season, sadly.

thanks for your perspective on 2v2s.
the best part of 2v2s is the yelling and screaming that goes on between you and your partner when the action gets hot.

sometimes that's the best part of a 1v1

the problem i have with 4v4 is that in starcraft you have to pay so much attention to what you're doing that it can be pretty difficult to pay attention to your teammates too. i end a lot of 4v4s feeling like i was just playing against a four headed opponent with some AIs helping me. mass team games just don't have the large scale feeling i wish they had, it just feels like chaos
i think for the case of team games specifically it would be a good idea to allow camera zoomout so you can actually feel like you're strategizing and managing a large scale battlefield with multiple combatants

There are some appalling bad maps in the 3v3 and 4v4 section- main mineral lines that can be hit tanks or proxy cannons from outside your base, super wide ramps, combined with wide backdoor ramps!!!

Are you playing with friends on voice comms? If not, that's day and night.

Team map categories in TLMC would be nice. I seem to recall that happening once or twice a long time ago.

I played 2v2s and 3v3 back in the WoL release but once you get to Master top, the games become really boring (there are 4 things that work and everyone does that). If you try to come up with something new to beat the current rush/timing, most players will call you noob and not play with you anymore. So I left sc2 a while ago :D. In terms of maps, 4v4 are already big map, even if distances are small, and you can always proxy so it doest not change much.
