Hello again,
In this part of my rambling, I intend to show how I am coming a long in learning and playing Brood War.
Part 1: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/486211-a-change-of-pace-from-sc2-to-brood-war Part 2: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/486349-a-change-of-pace-from-sc2-to-brood-war-part-2
TvP.
I will admit, this match-up has been a bit of a pain to play sometimes in SC2, so I was very curious to see how the match-up felt in Brood War.
It seems from my limited knowledge and experience, that the roles I am used to have been reversed. Terran seems to be generally in a defensive posture throughout the majority of the game, whilst Protoss aims to establish map control and take bases faster than the Terran to gain an economic advantage to not fall behind in terms of trading with the (very) powerful mechanic army of the Terran.
As with SC2, engagements seem to be very critical. One bad move can mean you take a horrible trade, and good siege tank position and mine spread seems to be extremely key. In fact, positioning in general seems to be of a much higher importance than I'm used to, so I tend to have terrible fights in the mid-game on-wards, I still haven't really got to grips with this stage of the game yet.
I really like siege tanks, they feel SO much more powerful than their SC2 counterpart, but feel a lot clunkier, I guess that is just Brood War pathing in general though.
Vultures are cool and nimble as fuck, I love planting mines and whizzing about. I dare not attempt any patrol micro yet, but I can't wait to give it a shot when I've gotten a bit better.
I have managed to practice a build for a couple of days now. It is admittedly a bit of a relief to have some kind of structure and purpose to my play now, I can identify my problems better, which should speed up the progress rate. (Except walling-off top right position in Fighting Spirit ;_; , one of my many, many kryptonites.)
The build I am currently attempting to execute is the (classic?) 2 Factory build, where I am aiming to push around 4 Marines, 3 Tanks, and 2 Vultures at around 5:30ish with Mine/Speed upgrades, rallying Vultures foward behind my aggression. At the minute I look newborn-giraffe level shaky, but hopefully grinding out TvP over and over will yield some results.
Here is a small VOD of a recent game of me executing this build;
+ Show Spoiler +http://www.twitch.tv/mau5mat/c/6760938
As usual, any critique or tips or comments are highly useful.
I think I will just continue trying to refine this until it's clean. It feels pretty messy at the minute, and that is not even including the actual push, I need to not 'conga-line' my units so my tanks can fire all their rounds at once, I need to work on general control and trying to get mines placed decently, while macroing well behind this.
I think I have my work cut out for me for the foreseeable future haha..
The build sometimes feels fine, and sometimes feels off. Some games I feel like my income is grand and I can afford everything I want to when I want it, others, not so much.
I am thinking about making my next blog about TvT or TvZ, I can't really give an estimate when it will be done, I want to take my time with TvP first. So apologies if there is a delay of sorts.

cool blog, interesting to hear your take on TvP. I'm not a terran, but i thought that aggressive tvp builds were meant to be more difficult to execute just because of the pure mechanics demanded from early engagements, maybe you should try to branch our to a more defensive build. Here's a pretty famous one that Flash loved:
Flash's build
other than that, if you're looking for people to practice with you should definitely be playing on fish, just because it's easier to find specific races there.. also the skill level is much more diverse (while generally fish players will always be superior to iccup players). however, if you put "noobs only" in your title you'll generally get people around your skill level i would imagine.. Here's some example game names for you if you try hosting (dont forget to include the #w, just copy and paste):
1:1 투혼 테란초보만#w (1:1 FS terran noob only) 1:1 투혼 토스초보만#w (same but now toss) 1:1 투혼 저그초보만#w (same but for zerg)
also playing in full screen makes the game much much easier to play, because it makes units larger to click etc. Also, in the beginning of the game rally towards your mins from your CC because SCVs start at max velocity towards the rally point, so it saves you mining time.
~edits~ so I watched your vod, and first off your mechanics are very strong for a new player, so WP on that! however, given what you scouted your choice of actions was super risky.. you scouted a 1base toss and you still decided to attack early, which is just ballsy because if he had been halfway competent he would have had dts (which would have killed you since you didnt have any detection) or shuttled reavers (which would have killed your attack and then raped your min line as well).. you just gotta be crazy careful with broodwar tosses, they're crafty as fuck

Woah thanks a lot for the reply.
I have thought about Fish, not too sure to be honest, it might be a lot more awkward to set up games and stuff. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
I'm not sure about Fullscreen, it looks like most of the Afreeca Terrans just play on the x2 windowed mode, also is Fullscreen not frowned upon or something for tournaments?
Yeah, at the moment I don't really know what I'm looking for. As such I don't really care if I die to stuff like that as long as I can just execute my build. Winning or losing is irrelevant to improvement in my eyes.
I'll keep the korean text (Hangul?) in a notepad file for future use, thanks again!

For walling top right, place the center depot of the wall first and pay attention to what the terrain beneath it looks like. You can recognize when its perfect if two green patches are at the top part of the depot.
Sorry that is vague but if you have done it correctly before that should help you do it right consistently.

Right, I've got some pictures to look at and a helpful dude just showed me some custom maps to aid in the process, thanks again!

i dont know anybody who plays in windowed on afreeca, and if by tournies you mean sbenu or KSL probably only use wlauncher, which AFAIK doesnt have windowed like the western launchers. but yeah, i was just giving you a heads up regarding 1base pvt protoss, it's infamous :p

Good attitude, keep that up. If anything, Window Mode would be looked down on. It became more popular once the new windows OS were released, so it made things easier with modern software (less bugs). Personally, I can't imagine playing in Windowed Mode, never really adapted to the tiny look. But doesn't matter, what works for you is the right thing.
