+ Show Spoiler [The intro] +
My journey with 311 started almost 16 years ago when as a 12 year old boy I went to the local cd shop with some birthday money to purchase what would be the first cd I've ever bought. At the time I had never really considered all the multitude of different genre's and had no idea even what type of music I liked. I had a little bit of influence from my father into liking rock bands (such as Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and whatnot...both my parent's favorite artist is Todd Rundgren) so it's no surprise that I generally prefer rock music (basic set up with guitar(s), bass, drums, vocals). So wandering through the walls and walls of cds by bands and singers and rappers and artists I had no clue who they were I came across 1 CD which the cover art struck me.

Immediately this was the CD I purchased not knowing that it would set me on a lifetime journey of Amazing music coupled with beautiful messages of unity, positivity, love, and peace. That night I listened to the cd all the way through on repeat and kept on listening through to the morning. I was in awe of the brilliance. Here was a group that flawlessly meshed together all the multitudes of genre's that I had been lost in at the music shop. I felt like I hit the jackpot and found the 1 group that stands alone, on top of the mountain of music. Later I found out that Transistor was actually their 4th (technically 6th?) studio album and I had an irresistible urge to get more. After buying Music, Grassroots, and the self-titled 311 I knew I was set for life. Lucky for me they weren't done. Every couple years 311 releases a new album and each one is a masterful piece of their unique sound. 311 is the one band that will always be on my playlist. I'll be taking them to my grave and all of the wonderful memories they gave me (and continue to give me) will be the culmination of my search for Music.
So for those who don't know, check the band out. They are simply amazing. For those that do know, make sure you get at least some 311 listening in today... Because today is 311 day, and forever will be the day to celebrate the greatest band of our time.
One more thing I'd like to add here is if you have the chance to see them live, you absolutely must do it. I've been to many many different concerts for many many different genre's and bands and artists and nothing will ever compare to a 311 show. The music is amazing live (even better than on the album), and the experience of unity with thousands of other 311 fans is something you'll never find anywhere else. Personally I've seen them 7 times and each show is more amazing than the last, a once in a lifetime experience.
And without further ado, some pictures and songs that I absolutely love....
