It's been a while, TL!

Since moving to Japan i haven't had much time to spend on here though i still keep in touch with my TL friends to the best of my ability. Most recent TL'er i met was Mani, and that was like 4 years ago here in Japan.

I'm traveling to Seoul over the weekend and would just like to know what you recommend? Things worth seeing etc. mainly we just want to eat great Korean food and drink beer though.
googling "things worth doing/seeing" gives me the usual crap that's not very interesting, if you have a favorite bar or restaurant etc. i would love to check it out!

Also, would be cool to meet up with TL'ers in Seoul if any of you are up for it, though i can't promise anything since i don't remember all of our plans at the moment..

Thanks!

To be honest, it's so easy to get good food in Seoul it almost feels redundant to give tips. That being said, everyone I know loves Myeongdong Gyoja.

Miss Lee Cafe in Insadong is very popular among young koreans right now. Try the dosirak, old fashioned lunchbox.

If you like seafood and don't mind riding the subway for an eternity I can recommend 오이도 돌섬호남집.

More importantly, go to one of the markets, like Gwangjang and eat what looks good! They have terrific food at the markets.
That which yields is not always weak.

I feel like food in Seoul is more about dishes rather than specific places because traditional Korean food is honestly pretty simple to cook and things that strive kind of 'off the beaten path' usually either serve something very much not Korean, or are very pricey / hard to find etc.

Make sure you go to at least one chicken&beer place, those are great, also of course Korean BBQ. There are quite a few all you can eat BBQ buffets; unless you're one of those guys that are super picky about their cuts and doesn't mind shelling out 50$ for a serving of meat, they are great value and you'll get to try many different kinds of meat / seasonings so that's nice. I also absolutely love buckwheat noodles with the beef side - tons of restaurants that serve it, especially in Jongno and Myeongdong areas.

Last but not least, not so much Korean but if you're interested in trying something else, there is a really awesome Russian restaurant near Dongdaemun History Park, not at all expensive and super delicious and authentic. Strongly recommend checking it out -

edit: here's an all you can eat BBQ place where I eat nearly weekly that I feel is amongst the best in Seoul -

Anywhere is absolutely fine!

Since we'll only be staying for two nights, i don't want to spend too much time walking around
When i know many of you already know where to go etc.

Thanks for the advice, we'll make sure to check it out and i'll post some pictures when i get back!

The BBQ buffets are good for what they are, you'll get a pretty diverse selection of meat to eat but they are generally cheap because the meat quality isn't very good at all.

It sort of depends if you want to spend more money to get higher quality meat or just want to try a little bit of everything. If you post what area you are staying in I can probably recommend some good meat places nearby.

Appreciate it!

I don't know where i'll be staying yet, as my girlfriend took care of all that (which is why i'm doing everything else).
I'll post again tomorrow once i've arrived and if anyone is still here then i'll appreciate any recommendations.

Any "must go to"-places are obviously appreciated as well.

It really depends on your taste in food and where you are
everywhere will have good food just look for places with lots of people and be aware most places will only serve one type of main dish or one style.
Hongdae for night life, avoid gangnam
Insadong is nice to wander around
try the jimjil bang in yongsan to relax
Really, why is real cheese so hard to come by in Korea? ^&^

I have 1 "must go" place but it's rather specific. If you like beef soup, this is a "must go".

버드나무집: This place is famous for their galbi-tang, or beef rib soup. It's the most legit galbi-tang i've eaten in my life. The broth is complex, highly nuanced, and not like any other beef broth I've tasted. There's a hint of ginseng or other herbal quality (i can't pinpoint it) that adds a whole new dimension to the broth. It's so popular that the restaurant serves the soup within a limited timing window, and in order to eat it, you have to get a meal ticket before they run out. It's best to go early, like around 10-11AM.

EDIT: the Seoul location is in Seocho-dong.

You guys are the best!

I've been starving myself for the last two days,
so many different things i want to try.

As a beer-lovin swede, what about beer? I don't even know the name of the
most common korean beer. Any other kind of alcohol i need to try while i'm
there?

I'm just about to board, will post obligatory food/beer pics later tonight!

I know 2 really good craft brewing pubs in Seoul, one of which I worked at.
The one where I was a server is:
https://www.facebook.com/HOUSETABLE
http://seoulistic.wordpress.com/2013/10/02/santafe-the-table/
There is a lot more information in korean.
They have 6 self-brewed really good beers and they're quite famous for it.

The second one, where I know the owners (who are really cool guys and work there all the time):
https://www.facebook.com/TheHiddenTrack
The also have some really nice beers, more craft beer-esque than the other one and they change up every now and then, since the pub is only ~6 months old!
Also they talk really good english, so feel free to ask them anything about their beer and they'll be stoked to give information.

For directions/recommendations pm me anytime.
