So over the past few weeks I have been creating a casted Sc2 video a night. It's been a whole lot of fun, good bit of challenge, but on top of all of it... self esteem destroyer.
I have tried multiple ways to get my name out there, twitter, facebook, reddit, related sites. But it never seems to be enough to really get my views above 80 ish. So I'm not really certain what I will be doing. I like casting a lot, but it takes up a lot of time making these videos and keeping up with social media and all the rest that goes with it.
I think part of the main problem is that I'm not really getting any feed-back, I have no clue wether people are even the slight bit interested, or absolutely hate my guts.
At any rate, check out my youtube if you're interested, I would love some feedback... even if it is telling me how bad I am at casting/video production.

Best of luck; check your PMs.

Why on earth would I want to watch your casts when I can easily watch the actual vods and the follow the entire series. You need to cast something unique.

One vote for absolutely hate SourAppleGuts.

Yeah the absolute hatred of me here on TL is starting to get kind of bizzare. Seems to be pretty much 9/10 people are really bothered by me.

Why would you want to watch something unique rather than a top level VoD?
What are some suggestions you might have?

in order to do something that gets attention you need to do something unique. Very few casters actually are that good or that interesting, that they could sell their "product" no matter what it is. Don't let it ruin your self esteem. Casting should be fun and enjoyable i think! it doesn't belittle what you do if few people watch, it just means not enough people know what you do :D

Thank you very much for your comment, I think I probably in the back of my mind realize this, but it helps to hear it from somewhere else. I just tell myself that because people don't give me rave revues, ergo it's terrible.

it depends what section of the scene you want to grow into. if you want just the casual fans, then casting good games and making it either informative or entertaining is the route.
but that wont be appreciated here on TL, which is primarily made up of more hardcore fans. if you wanna be appreciated on TL, casting small tournaments with good players, especially tournaments that would otherwise not have had an english cast, is the best way to get noticed.

I like to think you're basing this off of me haha, but actually I thought it was funny what you did before. No hate here.

Thanks for the tip lichter. I am NOT looking for the casual viewer, I just must be looking for my intended viewers in the wrong way. I have already been in contact with several small tournaments, but I may attempt to branch out to german tournaments.
I speak german decently, and could obviously just solo cast them in English.

Ah, no. You're thing was actually pretty funny since I royally fucked up and you called me out on it. I mean my other posts and comments, absolutely flamed (never any humor or teasing or anything).
Edit: I actually rather enjoyed being highlighted in your post =D

Travel back to 2007-09 and tell me how hard it is to get your name out there.
It's tough. Not going to lie. Day9, tasteless, artosis really worked hard to get their names out there. Diggity and Moletrap too. There were TONS of BW casters. It's not that they lacked passion, because that is what drives us all, but it's the self drive to forsake school/work and deticating 100% to it. To making it a career. To creating the content, gaining casting knowledge AND game knowledge AND player knowledge. You will put in thousands and thousands of hours to finally slice together the perfect 5 game series via editing and get shit on in 5 seconds.
But when people finally start listening, watching, thanking. It makes it all worth it. Remember, the negative will always stand out. The positive will always outshine it though. The people that like your stuff will continue to watch, which is fine. The ones that love it will comment/share about it. There will always be haters, stay above it.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for saying this. These are all things that I constantly tell myself, but to hear it from someone else almost means more.
I have a very hard time taking deconstructive criticism. I often think what I do (in any field) is not good enough. So when someone says, "I think x y z could be better by doing a b c" I take it in to consideration and thank them. But the often "you suck I hate you blah blah" for some reason takes a much harder toll.
I can get 20 good or constructive responses in a row and then one person saying something rude absolutely tanks my self esteem. I literally go back and forth on if I should continue or not on a daily basis.
But thank you very much for what you said. I recognize that it takes a lot of work, as it rightfully should. The thing that scares me the most is the people that want to see my fail for the sake of their own amusement.

At least you can say you took a chance. How many people could honestly answer they ever tried to do something so ambitious?
I tried. I failed. But I do not regret the experience or what I've learned. At least I tried and gave it my all. I will never wonder "what if" like 90% of the populace. Do your best and try your hardest. But be HONEST with yourself. If you find you are not enjoying it anymore, bow out gracefully and deticate your time elsewhere. This could be casting another RTS or game. It could be to stop commentating. It could mean many things, just be honest and be who you are. If you become something you're not, it tears you down on the inside and makes you a monster.
Be happy with yourself and what you do.
