I just want to share a story.
I had my first proper Muay thai training yesterday.
I had a meeting with the owner of the gym, he introduced me to the coach. Both were easy going smiling fellows, they left a nice impression on me.
So I changed clothes (I didn't bring gloves as I thought I'd just be a spectator) and went barefooted to the training arena. To my great surprise the gym had a list of rules. I mean, I thought sport people in Bulgaria are a bunch of simpletons who just want to get in some fights and pummel people. Another example why stereotypes are bad. But no, the guys were all mannered and respectful to each other. The coach was awesome. He was coming to each of us (the trainees) and he explained things and corrected technique. I did mostly shadow boxing because of the lack of gloves but still it was fun. In the final 2 rounds I got put next to a heavy bag with another guy. We had to do roundhouse kicks. I got complemented by the coach for my kicks and this felt awesome.
In between the rounds we did some core muscles exercises and push ups. I really hate doing push ups but I had to do them.
Also at some point in time MMA guys entered the hall. They were training jiujitsu. I don't know the names of the MMA guys in Bulgaria but I saw some familiar faces that I've seen on advertising posters and here and there. They were also very polite to each other. Bowing to each other, not like I thought - screaming and being just loud and annoying.
At the end of the training I almost collapsed on the floor. I was not expecting a workout and I didn't have breakfast, I really was expecting just to see how things are going and go home to eat and prepare for work.
So today I am having that muscle soreness, the strain, in muscles that I never thought I was exercising. It feels good. I really enjoyed the whole experience, to be with these guys, to be pushed by the coach, to reach my physical limit at that time. I really want to do some sparring too, but everything in its time I guess.
See you and gl hf!

glad you had a good time, feel free to try out the jiu jitsu stuff. it's all well mannered for the most part and people aren't trying to kill/hurt each other except during competitions. you turn it on, then turn it off.
I now have autographs of both BoxeR and NaDa. I can die happy. Lim Yo Hwan and Lee Yun Yeol FIGHTING forever!

May have been a good thing that you hadn't eaten a breakfast actually cuz after such a work out you might have thrown up if you are not trained well.

Sounds like a lot of fun, glad to hear you had a good time. There's a lot of different types of training out there, and I'm sure they all have their benefits, but I don't find myself with the time and money to give them a try (as well as I don't live in a big city so there's probably not the biggest selection here) the way I want to. I hope you post some updates down the road, because I'd like to hear about your experience.

Kazeyonoma, I guess I will try jiujitsu at some point in time. It just seems too complicated now and I want to feel more comfortable with MT first.

rafaliusz, I know what you mean. i usually do a mean about 90 minutes before training to avoid that and also have more energy during the training.

Grobyc, I did some MT on my own. Just bought a heavy bag for about $60, a pair of bag gloves and hand wraps. Watched videos on technique and there we go.

sounds like a nice experience
where's that gym/training hall exactly (town + neighbourhood)? what were the gymrules? if not a secret, what are the owner and the coach of the gym names? was the heavy bag like... ultra heavy? like when you hit it and the feeling is close to the one you get when hitting a wall?
i used to go to kickboxing in a training hall where sparring was not allowed up until several months of shadow/bag kick-boxing training and that felt significantly professional to me
Enjoy the game

Studentski grad, South mall, gym name is VIP Ring.

Rules were like:
- Come to the gym with clean clothes, trimmed nails and in good health
- Never disrespect the coach or other members
- Be polite and humble
- Bow to each other in the beginning
- Keep quiet
And some more I don't recall now.
The coach name is Sergei, the owner's name I can't tell as I'm not sure it's fine with him.

No, it was like when you hit a human body feeling. But they were heavy. I have a bag at home that weighs 55 kg and is 1 m long, the ones in the gym were like at least 2 m long and I don't know how heavy they were.

Also, on the sparring, I never asked. But if I want to do a sparring, I'd ask some of the training guys and we can hire a boxing ring for like 2.5 BGN/30 minutes at Slavia gym.
