Alright, so first off this was meant to be a period of relaxation in Paris, France. But, right now it's turning out to be a very shitty time. Basically I let my father book a hotel for 3 nights (very bad idea) and it turned out it is outside Paris in a town called Montevrain. My plan was to stay in the hotel for 1 night and then switch to a hotel in Paris.
Unfortunately...this hotel doesn't have an ATM anywhere close by to get money (closest around 1.5 miles) and I don't have enough Euros to take me anywhere else. I spent it on a psychotic French taxi driver that had a mental breakdown and still charged me 106 Euros after driving around in a circle for what seemed like 20 minutes. But I managed to reduce it to 86 Euros...fuck me. Based on what I know taxi drivers don't accept credit cards so, I'm stuck in this hotel and I don't know what to do.
So much for a vacation. I just wanted to go to the goddamn Louvre and walk around Paris. Any advice on how to get through this? It's my first time traveling so it's my mistake.

Walk the 1.5 miles, where is the problem?

It isn't showing up on the map when I typed it into google and the front desk told me they don't know where it is. They also said I would have to go to a shopping mall or disneyland to get to an ATM, which is further. I didn't want to sound as if I'm too lazy to walk. I've been walking and hiking all summer long I suppose I'll go wander around.

Getting lost is half the fun of travelling, except when you're hosed 86 euro because the taxi driver took you for a rube, personally I wouldn't have paid, but take a walk, you'll find an ATM somewhere around.

If you're planning to walk around town all day, you'll probably be going at least 10-15 miles.
|
At the very least, AT LEAST... you weren't taken. Because that happens in Paris.

Best vacation ever. Use the rest of your money to get drunk, then sell your clothes for a ticket to Louvre.

There is one option... Fuck Louvre, go to Meltdown, find a French bro and ask for a city tour. Well, SC:BW and SCll community is the best in my opinion, so I'm pretty sure someone at hte bar will help you! Cheers!

I really want to feel sorry for the OP and / or suggest something helpful, but my brain is stuck in an infinite loop of 'lol' so =(

I'll try to head there if I have time But I've always wanted to go to the louvre since I was young. It's a must for me.

Geez, you don't live far away, you live 40km for the Eiffel tower... Rent a bicycle, go for a bike ride, 40km for a person who has biked before will be 90 minutes. Take a beautiful walk around Paris, get exercise, it'll be wonderful.
Anyway, like others have said, 1.5 miles, or 2.4km is very little, at the age of 14 I was running 3km in sub 11 minutes, so I'm sure the walk to the ATM isn't all that bad. At the end of the day, sure your situation isn't great, but completely manageable. Don't spend your vacation being miserable, go for an adventure and have a nice story. Cheers, I hope to visit Paris sometime soon myself.

Come on man, Frodo had to walk like 2,000 miles to destroy the ring. You can walk 2.

Haha, thanks guys. Nah the walk to the ATM wasn't a big deal. I got lost in Paris though, I thought seeing the Eiffel tower in the distance would allow me to get there, but I am very bag and the buildings grew too tall to see anything. Didn't even know if I was going the right direction anymore. Also found a few interesting shops that were closed...but I will go back tomorrow to buy some stuff. It was nice seeing Sorbonne, the Pantheon, and Notre Dame. The unfortunate part of the day was that my taxi driver said he would wait for me, but he didn't keep his promise...

Ask for directions... then walk. Then when you think you're closer to it (if you don't immediately see it), ask for more directions to get you closer until you find it.
EDIT: You already did. Good

Ever heard of public transportation? For just a couple of Euros you can go absolutely anywhere in Paris and around.
I always jiggle when people get ripped off by taxi drivers. You should accept your 86 euro loss as a just punishment for choosing the most idiotic mode of transport there is and learn from it.

Did you ever think to ask a driver of a particular taxi service whether or not they take credit? That would take you five minutes.
Alternatively you could just walk to the ATM, but why don't you ask whether or not a particular service takes credit?
And alternatively to that...
What opisska said.

Public transportation? Never heard of it, I'm from California, ya need a car to get around effectively. But, yeah it was stupid, but I wasn't really familiar on where to go when I stepped out the airport so I just took the first taxi that I saw. Later I found I could have just taken a bus here, but what's done is done. http://www.rome2rio.com has helped me out a lot. Thanks everyone.

just use trams, subway, busses, trains or whatever paris has, its cheap and fast.
taxis in Eu are your last resort, they are expensive.

Im amazed the louvre is not on google maps! It should be one of the easiest things to find.
edit: I just typed in "the louvre google maps" on google and I found the louvre. Then all you need to do is set your destination to the louvre and choose your starting point (its somewhere in the options). Then they give you a nice green line to follow, or if you can't print that out or look at it on your smartphone you can just note all of the intersections where you turn left/right. If it really is only 15 mins away it can't be that bad.
Anyway I guess its too late for that but I really feel like you could have made it. That it wasn't on google where you were is really bizarre. Anyway, I hope you didn't sell your clothes . Also I hope you found something cool wandering around so it wasn't a total loss

That thing is a god send for public transportation, I wish there was something like that in LA. The walk to the Louvre from the closest point was around 15 minutes, but I walk slow anyways. It seemed faster than a taxi and it only cost me 8 euros. I wish I had known about it before I got to Paris, fuck taxis. But, now I know how to get around the next time I visit.
