I will be making a series of blog posts about my StarCraft play, as well as my StarGraphed coding.
Did you slip into a coma?
Nope. I have been working on StarGraphed, I've just been distracted and I've just wanted to play video games.
So, StarCraft playing?
Yeah, I'm trying to get back into playing, and have joined up to Robert Yip and Jakatak's targetting training regimen called TheSandbox. Check it out! Here it is. I've changed from Random to Protoss as that's what I mained before switching to Random and we had too many Zergs already. Also my Terran is legitimately awful.
StarGraphed?
I figure the best way to make sure I'm making something good is to USE IT. With that in mind, Mr Yip and I will be using it to find patterns, improvements in play and large scale data tracking of everyone involved in TheSandbox to make sure improvements are happening as we would hope.
This fits well, as when you're focussing on builds over many games, we can use the graphs tracking when builds are completed as well as mining stats and any extra units built when the build is completed over the time that the player has been practicing the build.
Added Anything?
I have!
What we have here is my attempt to condense players down to a bitesize set of stats per matchup:
- Average APM
- Average Unit Lifetime (currently they're high because I've included buildings and workers. An update will remove that)
- Average Resource Mining Rate (Minerals + Vespene)
- Game Time Score (This is Average Game Time for losses - Average Game Time for wins. Higher = better. Being able to close out a win quickly and taking a while to die is better than the opposite!
- Army Loss Value (Your Opponents Average Army Loss Value - Your Average Army Loss Value - Higher = Better. You want your opponent to lose more than you).
The green bars denote how good you are compared to everyone else. at 50% you're better than half of the other players. At 25% most are better than you. At 100% then YOU'RE THE BEST! CONGRATS!
I've also put in some optimisations and have started capturing a little more data.
What Next?
Well, lots of SC2 practice, and figuring out how to do engagement analysis.
I'm also looking at collaborating with other stats tracking people to see if we can mash our brains together to make a bigger, more spectacular brain. Also potentially better tools for you all!
So, next update?
I'll try to update once or twice a week to say how I'm doing.
Feel free to hit me up on here if you have any questions or suggestions!
