I think about 25% - 50% of the SCII audience was watching smash between games (thanks BattleNet!). Definitely do it again MLG, just don't get rid of SCII to do it. Maybe get rid of COD just because one of those idiots called in a bomb threat to sick SWAT on MLG and another drunk COD guy started a fight in the SCII VIP section. :p

Though i totally agree with shreik (though not quite as harsh haha) that the analogy of being a masters player is noooowhere near close yeah I agree KDJ might 3 stock you but he'd also 3 stock people who would in turn 3 stock you. it's deceptive because unless you recognize what the top players are thinking about at certain moments, they don't look as many leagues ahead as they really are. especially if they don't play a super technical fox/falco, then it just looks like "hey i could ftilt -> fair as sheik that's not so hard i bet i'm right up there". people tend to focus on the tech skill and how hard punishes are and call it a wrap because it's pretty damn hard to understand smash's neutral game, which is where most of the difference lies.

I know a couple of guys with huge game counts that can't get out of plat, but it's usually because they're too stubborn to learn and blame the game/balance.

It's really hard to play when the conditions are so cold and you aren't warmed up, it makes me appreciate what the pros do even more. No handwarmers? Rookie mistake. Awesome read, smash is a truly awesome game, and if I had people to play with or you know, a TV... or a console... or any free hours in the day left etc, I'd totally be tempted to try to learn after all the cool smash things happening lately haha

IMO 10,000 Melee games is about what it would take to get "silver" in Melee. Given, a StarCraft game is about 5 times longer, I think 10,000 is a reasonable number. I could 4 stock most people who have played 3,000 hours of Melee and I don't think I am near a "GM" level. My friend has played over 1500 1v1s (in only a year) and only managed to get promoted to silver in about the last 50 or so. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/2925172/1/michaeldittz/ 1,500 games is about 1/7 of what I asked for -.-If he continued going up one league every 1,500 games, he would be on pace for grinding out to be in Masters' by 10,000 games.

I'm kind of inspired - watched the documentary etc, but you have to play this game locally? Can you emulate it with a controller and a PC and play online? I don't know anybody who plays and I know my friends wouldn't keep up enough to keep me challenged with local play There are weeklies in a lot of places, you'll have to look around. I don't recommend playing on a PC, you'll have to buy a GC / Wii and maybe a CRT television and just start playing. Learn the game by watching endless videos and copying what they do (or trying to), and just grind tech skill on your own. Weeklies are where you'll improve
