Hello TeamLiquid!
TLDR: Answer the title question.
I recently have been spending a lot of time online and playing games in SC2. I managed to find a clan that would take a Platinum player on the EU server, and that has vastly improved my enjoyment of the game. No, I won't mention the name of the clan on this thread. I love having that sense of community and people to play with, but we do have a somewhat small clan. Like most clans, we have lots of members, but very few remain active, which does make our clan events somewhat limited. I have been trying to promote my clan by contributing some funds for more fun things, and I was wondering: what do people look for when they join a clan? I myself enjoy the sense of community. It's almost exactly like being on a sports team together. While we each play individually, we can learn, practice, and grow together as a team, and put that to the test every week in a clan war or even a small in-clan tournament. I very much enjoy that kind of competitive environment. So when you choose a clan, what are the things that you want to do with your clan? Hang out on your clan TS server? Battle it out in a competitive environment with lots of tournaments and clan wars? Do you want training from higher level players? Do you enjoy a more casual environment, with lots of arcade/drinking games? I would like your input.
Currently, our only organized clan events are weekly clanwars, which are usually limited to diamond/masters level players. We do end up playing lots of peepmode games though, which I think are fabulously entertaining.
Some of the Ideas I have are: -Monthly or Weekly Double Elimination/Round Robin tournaments (currently, we don't really have the players to do this by league) with prizes, which is a whole separate beast. -A weekly Arcade night, with lots of casual fun to blow off some ladder frustrations (While enjoyable, I personally would prefer something more competitive, and would probably limit my participation)
And my final question: How did you find your clan? Was it really on the TL thread? Were you just doing your thing on B.Net, only to get swept away by some guy you found on ladder? I mean, the ideas mean a lot to me because I'm in the clan already, but how did you find those awesome things that you were looking for?
Thanks for tuning in

In general (i.e any game), a clan where people will socialize and involve you in the goings on regardless of circumstance (rank, gear, new/old, whatever.) and actually HAS things going on. Along with nice people instead of dickbags.
Thats what i look for in a clan.
I've joined too many clans with nothing going on apart from the odd spontaneous grouping of a few people here and there or people have their "cliques" within the clan and nobody bothers with you because they don't know you etc. Those clans are the ones i'll leave quickly. Also the ones with a bunch of d-bags in em.
I actually joined a clan that demanded i attend a clan meeting on teamspeak and in-game (so i couldnt be doing other shit while at said meeting) that 100% ignored my legitimate input/questions because i didn't have access to my microphone at said time. Thats a bad clan D:

Things I look for in a clan: 1. Active players relative to my skill level with whom I can practice and socialize with. 2. Some type of activity to do to keep things interesting; i.e. clan wars, tournaments, etc. 3. The clan is geared toward improving their play without ruining the enjoyment of the game. 4. The clan leadership is not overbearing with unreasonable demands on players. 5. The clan does not allow hackers or overly bad mannered players to stay.
To answer your final question, I found my SC2 clan via the TL clan recruitment forum. I looked through the last 5 pages or so, and looked for clans that sounded like what I listed above, then chatted with the point of contact for a bit before making a final decision. I will let you know that any recruitment posts that didn't look the least bit professional were instantly skipped.

I've only been a member of one clan, but if I were to look for a new one I would look for:
People around the same skill level as me that wish to improve. People that are nice to just shoot the shit with outside of games. Active in the sense that practice between different clan members is common, but NOT FORCED. Minimal drama, no weird power trips, etc.
A clan doesn't need TS; skype group calls are fine. Arcade games are fun every once in a while but don't need to be scheduled. Training sponsored by the clan is unnecessary and wasteful (imo). Inhouse tournaments and clanwars are fun if they are done occasionally and are not compulsory, because sometimes life gets in the way.

I never wanted to be in a starcraft "clan" or team for those reasons. That's what I liked about Starcraft it's a 1v1 game and I can do it freely on my own with independence.
When the countdown begins, it's only you and your opponent. Unless you are playing team matches which I dont

Well thank you very much for the input guys! Unfortunately, we do not have chicks (that I know of). I mean, would it really be worth it to have a chick on your SC2 clan? I will take your advice to heart. It seems like it's a consensus that you want people to play with, and some fun events, but nothing serious, or scheduled, or hardcore like that. I suppose I was getting a little overzealous about organized fun, so I'm glad you guys were able to reign me in before I actually did something drastic
