related: Trivia Entry I. This blog features stuff which doesn't go to Liquipedia, because there's no place

  • In (Wiki)WCG Germany 2003 the administration decided to use a Double Elimination bracket. Socke advanced to the Loser's bracket finale after beating OgerDaniel; theoretically, if followed through correctly, this would mean he had qualified; in reality someone thought Socke had to play twice [there was a long "reasoning" behind it stating something about Socke not having played twice or something] and lost 2-3. He did not qualify, but OgerDaniel did.

  • Also WCG Germany: (Wiki)pro Gaming sent a lot of players to the WCG Main event in 2003. They had one additional spot for a manager left over, two people applied, only one got the spot. The managers decided to duke it out in Stone/Paper/Scissors, which Kentaro[pG] won.

  • (Wiki)pro Gaming kicked their entire line up in July 2005 and replaced the with the (Wiki)Templars of Twilight. However, apparently, pG's managers failed to inform their former players. (Wiki)Dashwriter learned about this via community page news, not via internal conversations.

  • WGTour has a UrbanDictionary entry. It states facts correctly about the founders, then drifts off in flaming admins as "no lifers".

  • German Grudge: Caryz[NsH], a less known player, flamed the shit out of HoRRoR.T for being a smock and arrogant idiot. The climax of their grudge was an infamous "Diss Video" done by Caryz. TerraIncognita, organizer of the Du Bist Brood War LANs, tried to settle their "dispute" in real life at the DBBW 4 LAN.

  • HoRRoR.T indeed was an idiot: He flamed the shit out of (Wiki)Kolll before WCG 2009 in news comments, forums and the "Münchner Abendzeitung Online". At the latter, the fight was so terrible the news paper decided to delete their content a few days later. Both qualified for the WCG. However, as kolll was still quite young his older brother flew with him. Imagine the flight of the German team, with HoRRoR sitting next to kolll's brother.

  • Random quote by iV.Mammon applying for a spot in iV: "I like Germany for its girls. Around here you can only have sex with a Moose"

  • WGTour was organized on Battle.net Europe, which forced the players to seek for opponents manually. Points were only rewarded if replays were uploaded. According to what wuT)Ausbruch told me after a few beers, his former clan mate wuT)Anfall had a grudge with (iirc) Ovvi. Hence, Anfall repeatedly reported games he won (non ladder) against Ovvi and abused the flawed reporting system just to freak out his rival.

  • Random quote of Budi (GIGA TV Caster): I'm thrilled for this game. Literally. I am like a horny sheep. [akward pause] (from FiSheYe vs. Mondragon Finals)

  • From the first (?) WGTour 1v1 Final Ladder Tournament Live Report: "JulyZerg went to eat something and never came back". He apparently ate his golden mouse.

  • Pirates of Space (POS) was one of the highest scoring clans in WGT Season 1

  • In the rematch ToT vs [Shield] Mondragon defeated Bisu 2-1 and Testie won 1-0 over Sea (in the first match Bisu defeated Twisted 2-0 and Sea 2 - 0 ed Mondragon)

  • WiLLeT after being asked if he would change races: "Protoss stands for the sex of mens (P = PENIS) P all the way yo OO"

  • TLPD Staff member Zere once settled a grudge match in bw. He lost and had to upload naked pics of himself. He did. I saw. Never Forget.

  • German Caster Grummel talked with his co-host Elmo for about 45+ Minutes about why no player used Defiler in ordinary games during a BW4Ever Semi Finale. One game later, in the finals, Mondragon defeated Cope with Defilers. Grummel refused to analyse strategies during the finals.

  • Random Quote by Budi before Mondragon vs. FiSheYe: "I can't wait for this game. I'm already horny like a sheep." [akward Pause] "I don't know how to continue"

  • Manifesto hosted a Replay with Audio page. It featured gems like a sung battle report.

  • WGTour founders didn't really play BW/W3 and were more interested in First Person Shooters. Their ladder had more than 100,000 registered BW/W3 accounts regardless.

  • Random user at broodwar.de: "Sadly my post was deleted, because it was considered as spam. I really thought it expressed my thoughts nicely."

  • At 1st January some Broodwar.de user opened a rant topic in which he told the world how a group of youth shot fireworks into his car port, which consequently burned down. Five minutes later a second (fake) topic was opened by another user, describing how he shot a firework drunk out of his skull accidentally into a carport, which then burned down. The topic got deleted after a legal investigation.

  • A MYM News editor posted a "girl blog" like topic in bw.de's community topic, asking for a tutorial on how to approach a girl he frequently saw on a bus but never dared to talk to. The answers were bad.

where was this post in which some guy asked how blizzard could keep the players busy in sc2, so that it's as impossible as it was for bw to play perfectly?

I had this smart idea that blizzard could force each player to confirm the "you have not enough minerals" warning by pressing an ok button

Rant Part: Recently, I had the idea to research old events. It's shit, nothing's archived. Moreover, it reminded me at the stupid things web masters / news staff forces their writers to do. It's a random rant. Don't take it seriously.

      How To: Fuck Your Editors

This paragraph is for all of you webmasters, news staff supervisors or people who want to eventually end up in a leading position, here are a few tipps of you can make life miserable for your fellow writers. Remember, your number one priority is to feed on the tears of your staff.

The easiest way to really upset a lot of people without much of an effort is to force WYSIWYG on them. It looks nice, it looks familiar and it theoretically is there to enable each and every tech noob to write a good looking piece of text. In reality the system was invented by Satan originally and released into the world wide web. It comes with the most arbitrary bugs, displays previews of imaginary pieces of text and generates really complicated, unstructured and disgusting piles of HTML codes, which nobody can fix in less than five minutes. The best thing about it: No WYSIWYG has the same bugs, it's really creative. A list of possible bugs (experienced all of them first hand):

  • The symbol ' will cause the news to crash if used in text. Try not using that symbol in any article. Have fun.
  • Automatically replace y and i in words like Script (Scrypt), until your editors question their ability to use the English language.
  • Arbitrary replace the position of most used buttons, such as the „Make Text Bold“ symbol every other day. It's like hiding someone's car keys in a refridgerator.
  • Add a preview text to the news. The text has to be written, but will not be shown. The text has to be 150 symbols long, may not contain the symbols ', & or /, must not exceed the length of 155 symbols.
  • Add auto-spell check function. Spell check enabled for Arabic language, not for English. Every word now is underlined in red.
  • Preview must not ever show the actual outcome. Instead, preview an Ipse Dore text in Hangul.
  • Rent a server in Mongolia, so every submission takes up to 30 minutes, pings out at least twice before it works and, this is the important part, will never tell you if it worked or not.
  • Publishing dates should not be written in Day/Month/Year, but in weeks (62 weeks ago); an extraordinarily funky approach to dating would be Century Months: 1320 CMS (1. January 1900 + 1320 months = 1. January 2010, „roughly“)

A few more things, not limited to WYSIWYG, which can be implemented:

  • Automatically log off users after 10 minute of idling time. Writing / editing text online is considered as „idling“.
  • Move / rename files on the FTP every two months, but don't tell anybody.
  • Change access groups and rights. Tell a change is coming up a year before, but don't warn once you did. If people complain quote messages from the last century.

As supervisor you don't neccesarily have the option to use these methods, these require knowledge and access to more important pieces. However, if you supervise a group of users, you might as well abuse your position and 'teach' people. Be a pain in the ass. Tell people conventions (you just invented, but are tradition) are there to make a repetitive task easier, if they have a rational reasoning. Then introduce conventions, but forget about the last part – the rational reasoning. Examples:

  • Insist on writing random caps nicks as random caps nicks. It's BrEaKdOwN not Breakdown.
  • Color and style conventions are a good thing as well: ALTERNATE.aTTaX-Nick. Note how it takes ages to spell like this and how you can't do that good enough in Notepad/Word, if editor's are forced to paste it into WYSIWYG.
  • If important news have to be written about maintenance related problems, wait until it's an hour to deadline. Start to harass and stress out how important it is. Start to critize the writer's for each and every typo you find. In an ideal scenario, you release it, delete it two minutes later, because „the maintenance problem was solved earlier than expected, whoops“.
  • If confronted with good ideas, wait a few days before responding. Insist on self made banners, especially if the writer can not do banners on his own and has to learn it. Critize the banners if the font is 0,25% „too small“. Find things to nitpick. If asked why you're anal, tell them you just motivate them to further their abilities and that they should be glad.
  • If catering a mostly non-native English community, insist everyone uses complicated words and a Thesaurus. Do the opposite if your user base is native and/or fluent. Also, add translations with a lag of at least two months. Only in Lating, because the Roman Empire was the one lasting the longest.
  • Always, literally always, critize people for their language skills. If you write yourself, completely neglect what you wrote and do the opposite of all conventions. Don't ever finish your
  • Most importantly: NEVER. ARCHIVE. ANYTHING.

ah yeah, those WYSIWYG, or more like "What you see should be what you get but never will" editors. I. Hate. Them.

I could definitely see a few of them added to LP, like in the Trivia/Facts section of a player/tournament page.
