So I just wanted to write a really small blog to just let people know what's going on with me. I'm going to keep it short and to the point. My hands had been improving. (Ha if I had a nickel for every time I said this.) I've started doing 2 or so hours a day of SC2 every day. I even casted with TB on Clan Wars, and for LSC this last weekend. I casted at LSC controlling the mouse (poorly) for a very long period of time, without my hands getting much worse even.

The problem with doing all of these things at the moment, is they still come with a lot of pain. I take advil, and it doesn't really help it anymore. It's just a dull pain (sometimes sharp) that I'm coming to live with. And if it comes to it, well I'll just live with it, because what can you do.

However I'd like to try and take a month or so to just completely rest my hands again at this point. As I'm continuing with college in the fall, and I have another job as well that I'm working at, I have to consider what I want to do in the future. I think if I spend another month doing nothing, maybe when I come back and try playing 2 hours a day, the pain will be less. It'll be more manageable and just overall I'll be more equipped to deal with it. If it's not better within a month of no activity, I might try and wait a little longer, or I might just try and live with the pain or I don't really know.

I love being involved in e-sports in some capacity, and I miss it when I'm not. I know I haven't done much lately. And I know I'm always looking towards the future, hoping that sometime I can be involved more and more rather then less and less. For now I'm just going to take this one month or so break and I'll let you know how it goes at the end of it. See, that really was a short blog right?

If you have any questions or comments feel free to let me know,

Sincerely, the guy always talking about his hands.

Team LiquidUnderneath it all they were really quite nice. They just got screwed up. Mostly by stuff that wasn't entirely their fault.

Taking the pressure off your hands for a little while sounds like a good idea, and might just be the thing that lets you fully recover. I hope your hands feel better!

I've had tendonitis in my right wrist off and on for about 4 years now, so I totally understand the feeling of "just living with dull pain" :/. But as long as you're resting it, treating it, and exercising/stretching it properly, it should start to improve .Take it easy, man! We'll always be waiting for you when you get back!

Also, I hope your diet is still going well too. You made a bunch of positive life changes (or at least, it seemed to me) almost a year ago, and I really do hope it has been helping you to improve overall as a person. Just keep it up and make sure you're taking care of yourself! Like I said, we'll be waiting for your return .

Not sure how it might help (depends on your specific problem) but have you tried some of the different ergo/therapeutic mice on the market? Probably wouldn't be great for gaming, but it may help you with general computer use to avoid pain. A friend of mine has fibro, horrible RST in her wrists, and a boatload of other issues. She can only use a joystick-style mouse - rather than the normal grip surface and buttons, it's shaped like a joystick with the buttons on the stick but glides and tracks like a normal mouse with the sensor in the base.

In any case, if you can avoid pain it's better than living with it (I'm in near constant low grade pain for reasons no doctor can yet explain, but it may have something to do with my degenerating C4 disc) - advil sucks. So does Alleve. Other things don't suck so much, but have their own drawbacks (oxycotin, any of the 'sets, ultram, mobic, etc, etc.)
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

Your situation and mine sounds kind of similar. ): I'm constantly thinking about what I have to do now to ensure I can do something stable in the future, when it comes to my health. I checked your last blog and while you said your doctor was confident you would be healthy again...well, it doesn't sound like he was correct in his diagnosis/treatment. I'mma tell you what worked for me - if this is already advice you've gotten, sorry!, but here it goes: have you talked to anyone who said the problem started in your neck/shoulders?

I had wrist/arm pain for about two years now. For the first year and a half I went to the same therapist/doctor combo and they always focused on my arm. They told me it was just tendonitis, and things like 'rest it and it will be okay'. I tried resting. I didn't touch a computer for more than two hours a day for a month. Pretty much exactly what you're thinking of doing. It was terrible. And it all resulted in the same pain. Dulled pain, but still pain.

What really worked was going to a therapist who looked above just the arm. They diagnosed me with mild tennis elbow and worked my neck/shoulders more than anything else. Now when I do neck/shoulder stretches as opposed to just hand/wrist stretches, I can feel it working. Gradually the pain stopped being so severe in my wrist, and now when I play for extended periods of time, my body is finally alerting me to the real problems by making my neck sore/tight.

I would go into deeper detail but I'm not sure if you've already tried this approach or what. If you have, sorry for the TL;DR! If not, it's definitely something to look into. Wasting a month doing nothing you enjoy for the promise of no more pain only to be met with it again is, well, fucking infuriating.

Either way, however you decide to get healthy, good luck! I hope to still see you casting somewhat, cuz as long as there's a dedicated observer you can just follow and be done with it, it isn't so bad.

I hope you keep on casting atleast. I loved it this past weekend for Lone Star. You could maybe just set your screen to follow another caster so you do not have to be an observer.

Blazinghand, your name is uniquely relevant. Shawn, I hope the month off goes well and and that you'll be feeling well enough to after to start playing a bit more. Good luck and I hope work/school goes well in the meantime. <3

P.S. Will you be at MLG? I miss killing/being killed by you in mafia.

Edit: We should also play Hearthstone sometime. :D

Aww, I was hoping you'd continue with casting. The series you casted with TB was in need of some preparation, particularly in regards to the unique maps, and it would've been nice to see you build upon that.

Taking off a month to rest your hands is a good idea. Having said that, if the advil isn't working and it's still pretty painful, the next step up is usually opioids. Take a look at tylenol #1. I dunno how pharmacies work in the US but up here, you can just ask for tylenol #1 and the pharmacist will give it to you and counsel you on it if its needed. No prescription required and it can possibly help with your pain. Thanks for keeping us up to date and good luck!

hey man, like you I want what is best for sheth and that he gets better, but as a student in pharmacy school, I dont think it is our place to be giving health advice casually and suggesting someone start taking opioids. Especially since we dont know what is causing the pain and what his diagnosis is. Hope you dont feel offended or anything, im not flauting my knowledge (which i dont have any yet) I just feel obligated to comment on this as I am going to be in the medical field somewhere.

Hope the docs figure this out and that you get better soon sheth!

Nice to hear from you Sheth, hope you're doing well and I hope you find a more permanent way to solve your pain for good, no one deserves to live like that. I suggest you follow ZombieGrub's advice, sometimes things aren't what they seem. In any case, take care and good luck, hope to see you fighting soon!

Well, I'm not saying he should just start it but I was commenting on how it's usually the next option after both tylenol and advil fail and is a possibility. Tylenol 1 only contains 8mg of codeine so it's nowhere near something like morphine or the heavier opioids which have some pretty bad side effects.

Personally, I think he should go to a doctor first to find out the source of pain(he said both dull and sharp so it could be both nociceptive and neuropathic), consider the advil dose (could be he's taking a low one) and then if the pain is still severe (he seems to indicate it is though we need more info), it's a good option for him to try them out after doctor consultation. I don't mind you commenting on my post though, it spurs discussion lol.

Thanks for the update Sheth, hope to see you more around the scene even if it's side stuff like casting, there's a hole to be filled in the SC2 scene without you being around. Must be something about all that manner and just being an awesome guy.

Also maybe ZG's anecdotal experience helps too.
