I wasn't sure where to post this, so here we go VODs section..
As we all have recently heard, GOMTV will be shutting down gomtv.net, and has pulled all the VODs from their site as they transition to youtube, NBD right? http://i.imgur.com/5dWaFeG.png
I sent an email to GOMTV about a month ago asking if they have any plans for their BW VODs, and got this response: http://i.imgur.com/uJ6j3KY.png
So basically, if you have any interest in watching historic brood war games, the foundation of modern esports, well, you are screwed. Is it just me, or does this suck royally?

Sounds like they haven't ruled it out. It would only take someone to convince them that there's some money to be made.

They actually stopped hosting BW VODs a while ago it seems like (I tried watching some on TG Sambo/Intel Classics) but I managed to find them all on Youtube under someone else's account. So it's no big deal

Honestly, no one cares. I don't mean this to troll. Just saying, like when I did the PRS (Pucca Relive Series) of the Coca Cola OSL no one cared (of course could be due to my personality). In my experience no one would look over their shoulder if the Coca Cola OSL just suddenly vanished.

Finals are important sure, epic games are important sure, but no one cares about that ro64 group F bo3 vs korean#1 and korean#2

People do care, but obviously not everybody can watch something live. Which is why VODs are a great thing. If I feel like "Hey what was that one game where X did this amazing strat vs Y" I can go find it and watch it on my own time.

Made a thread about it, 3 reddit posts - all had a fairly lively response, GOM didn't give a shit. Luckily at least the first season and GSI can be found on Mickeytoss

Early Round classic games might not be the best games most of the time, but they do feature idrA + a couple of encounters between good players + I always find watching an S class Korean absolutely rape a foreigner or in this case a low level progamer very educational.

Plus I mean... half the reason I watch the early round games is the epic commentary from tasteless + lilsusie/SuperDanielMan where some of their best casts were on the worst games

He is not that wrong. I'm not sure the majority of people would watch a random Korean VOD from any tournament/league if it has no special background, e.g. games being very memorable for one or the other reason, were commented by a well known foreigner or feature somebody like Boxer/Yellow/.../JD/Flash.

Same goes at zasnrunic - people tend to complain and comment a lot, most with two word 'sentences' but never really follow through with it. I'm disappointed as well, but if I'm honest, I couldn't tell you when the last time was that I had the urge to watch a completely random Korean VOD or even an entire season of a league.

Anyone who has never watched through the GOMtv qualifiers with a bunch of giggling friends cannot know the joy that GOM brought to our hearts. The best was when Jason Lee casted with Nick and had no idea what was happening, and Tasteless still keeping it all professional while Jason Lee would say crazy stupid stuff unintentionally. Kind of reminds me of...

This is super lame. I like to go back to gomtv classics to watch them and remember the old times. After finding Klaz, Tasteless and the GOMtv classics was the main thing that brought me in and it would be super bad to lose it

What would be cool is if they could upload their vods on youtube in better quality- when I was rewatching a half year ago, I had forgotten how much better the internet got at hosting videos in these last few years.

@Pucca
No disrespect, but I don't think your situation to Tasteless vods is comparable anymore than losing all the vods of the casting Archon in SC2 compares to people not watching the average tl forum sc2 caster.

That blue stuff is the bomb yo

More on topic: I'd like it if GOMtv put the effort in to archive those BW games. In their response they did not indicate that it won't be done, just that SC2 will be prioritized first.

When I saw this post I decided I would prove you wrong. You probably are unaware but in fact the Coca-Cola OSL did disappear. A few years ago I got all the VODs and uploaded them as you can see here and released a torrent.

Just clicking on a lot of VODs there, none of the twenty or so I went to had less than 100 views, most had at least 300, and quite a few had thousands of views. I have no idea how many people downloaded the torrent who could also have watched it. For the thousands who watched VODs from that it is important that they have access to all the other VODs. I never watched all them myself but I like having the option to.

So in future do some research before making dumb sweeping statements about how the BW community feels. I did not really rewatch GOM VODs but I care. If you don't care then don't post about it.

We can only hope those VODS aren't lost forever. It would take a lot of labor to get them up and I'm sure there considering that its a niche that would be interested in watching them.

Of course you may need to do some searching (I like searching by TLPD date 2008.x.x or 2008.0x.xx or 08.x.x and gsi, averatec intel-classic, ...) but you will probably find all the vods there. I have been updating Liquipedia with the links when I have time. Maybe someone can put them up as a link in the vods section.
Please PM me with any songs you like that you think I haven't heard before!

the points isn't if you care

the point is that in 20 years time or 50 years time there will be no record of this stuff unless people make an effort to preserve it.

Broodwar was unique along with wc3 for just how popular it got in an age when it was the first of its kind to do so.

I watch the Starcraft BW Vod stream and that is the only one I watch.

BW was honestly overall a better period of time for the game and community than what it is now and sadly BW > SC2 in Korea even after being out for 14 yrs and it will continue to thrive there because it was a way of life.

So yes, people do care and making a statement like that just shows ignorance.

I look for the 2011 Blizzard Cup finals once in awhile, and if I can actually get friends into SC2, that's one of the first things I'd want to show them, but the VODs I thought I owned are also going to be eventually added to their youtube page. At least those are higher up the list than yours.

Actually, at least game 7 is now up, possibly the whole series. Maybe they're closer than it appears to 2010 and before.

This and the original KPGA tournament another person uploaded were both really interesting for me, I definitely appreciated it I think for a lot of people watching the entire tournament would be a bit much, but a lot of people have a favourite player or two they want to see an old game of. Just in terms of RTS gameplay development, they are historically interesting. How top players thought about the game back then, what was most important to succeed in those early stages etc.

GOMTV tasteless vods are sorta the same idea. Besides the WCG and blizzcon stuff he did, this is where tasteless really started to cast. For some people interested in his career, that's potentially historically interesting.

Especially in terms of archiving, this stuff does have its audience. Watching live over the course of a month or two not so much -.-

Nick started out slow and picked up. Watch WCG 2006 Monza vods and you'll see him casting on a full scale.
