Lieds (German plural: lieder) are still written and performed today, there is even the term "Liedermacher" (lied maker) in the sense of singer-songwriter.

Lead the chemical element or Lead as in "Lead the way grobyc you handsome bastard!"

I didn't know this was used in the context of the article. I'd go for Minnesang or something, but Lied seems... odd. Haven't read that, then again I'm illiterate.

Haven't read that, then again I'm illiterate. Minnesang is commonly used in the sense of a special lied from the middle ages, composed and performed by some knights who adored a princess to get their attention (and love!) Minnesang was often accompanied by instruments, but with portable ones (instead of a piano.) A lied does not imply any particular era or content, it can be sung alone, with others, and/or be accompanied by a guitar, piano, accordion or other instruments. The OP uses the term lied right in the sense that there are lieds which tell a heroic story.
