Why is it socially unacceptable to eat ice cubes?
I got a glass of Coke today, and apparently every distributor of soda in the country has this unspoken agreement to fill 2/3 of the container with ice. I enjoy my Coke with ice, even after a day of being outside in negative degree (Fahrenheit, ~-20 Celsius) weather, but no matter how loudly I say "That's enough ice, thank you very much" or, failing that, "GODDAMMIT ENOUGH WITH THE ICE, I PAID FOR COKE" I still get 2/3 a glass of ice. The glass is probably ten times more expensive than all of its contents anyway.
So whatever ice doesn't melt by the time I'm finished with whatever soda they did ration for my enjoyment, finds its way, one by one, into my mouth. I get nasty stares from others when I do this for some reason. I paid two dollars for fifty cents' with of soda, which costs about five cents to manufacture. You're going to watch me enjoy my ice.
That said, it's delicious. Ice is always cold, and it's like water but with slower release. So you can't just slam it down and have it fall straight into your bladder. Your system absorbs it. Mostly. I'd even start carrying it around, but it seems everyone and their mother thinks that eating ice is a travesy equal to digging up their grandfather's grave and sodomizing his corpse.
Does anyone else here ever eat ice?

I always eat the ice if it hasn't molten yet. And I do very much enjoy putting ice in my beverages, so that they are as cold as possible. Any cold beverage that is good, gets better with ice.
Soda, cider, beer - You name it, ice improves it.

I love eating the ice as well! I always eat it when given the chance, though it's been a while since I've had a drink full of ice.
But while the ice should be acceptable, I have to admit I might take it a bit too far when I eat snow. At least the ice is completely hygienic. I just enjoy the texture of snow too much to not eat it.

Ice dilutes the drink. Soda/beer/whatever doesn't taste as good when it's watered down. There's a good amount of ice and then there's the amount that servers put.

Iirc your body has to burn calories to digest the ice

Naturally, there is such a thing as too much ice.
Edit: But god damn it, if some one gives you too much ice, you have to make the best out of that situation and eat it.

I probably enjoy my drinks with ice, but as you said restaurants fill it with far far too much if you ask for it. I always ask for no ice because I feel like I'm getting ripped off if I get 1/3rd coke 2/3rd ice. That's kind of weird of me...but yup.

That being said, it still takes calories. A calorie is a unit of measuring thermal energy, and since your body is mainly just a sac of water, it takes energy to heat up that water. I'm pretty sure that it's a pretty negligible amount of energy though, so I wouldn't try to go eat ice cubes to burn calories

I'll even tip less if they still give me ice, the money I lost from the amount of soda can come out of their tip.

If you go to McDonalds, you can ask them for "light ice" and they will give you the perfect amount.

Do they have it at Burger King as well? I prefer Whoppers to Big Macs.

Also you can get 13 cookies in a box for 5 bucks. And they have excellent cookies. I know a lot of McDonalds stuff, but nothing about other places.

Wait a sec both of those are self serving where I am. Only the moneygrubbers at Wendy's fill it up for you so you can't mix sodas or get refills.

Seriously though. They need to chill with the ice. I mean nobody even wants to fill the ice machine so why risk being the one who causes it to go empty?
Eat your ice. I do it. Zero fucks given. I don't crunch it though so maybe you are violating noise ordinance.

Crunching ice is really bad for your teeth. That might be part of why people have an aversion to it. Maybe.
