Well it's been about 5 months since my last blog and thought I would give you all an update on my progress of my music production dabblings!
Over the past months I have been continuing to try out different styles of music and have been expanding my production techniques. I have also changed my "producer name" to Discretion - I kinda like this name and it's a change from my previous name which I just chose because I couldn't think if an actual name (used to be called Mongoose Sounds)
What I have been trying to improve on
Recently I have decided that it is a slight waste of time trying to make original sounds using syntherizers such as massive. Although it is far more important to be able to modify existing synths and samples that have been engineered to a much higher level that I could probably make myself.
I have obtained way more samples than I was previously using and have become more used to using samples for basslines, and melodies. When I started in music production I thought this would be considered a "cheap/unoriginal" way to make music, but then I realized that the role of a musician is not to create his own sounds, but to put sounds together in a way that sounds good (this is harder than it sounds). Another way of justifying this is that a guitarist doesn't get skilled by building his own guitar and making his own sound - but by playing the guitar skillfully.
Anywhere, here are the songs I've made recently:
My attempt at Deep/Vocal House music:

A "chillstep" song I made a couple weeks ago:

Anyway, I've been moving slowly away from screamy types of music and into more mature genres. Here are a couple of new songs I've made recently if you're interested in listening!
Many thanks for listening
Previous Blog Post (from 10th Aug 2013)
Hi all! I've been wanting to write a blog for a long time now, so I thought I'd go ahead and finally make one
First of all, I'll start with a quick introduction of myself. I am just turning 22 and am a hardcore SC2 fan. I reached high masters in WoL when I was practicing a lot, but have since cut down a lot of my practice time as real life took over
But over the last few years my passion has been something else - Music Production. It's been my hobby for the last 4 or so years, and even though I currently work a full time job I spend my evenings and weekends making electronic music.
Getting into the music industry is a bit daunting though. For example, If you want to become a professional gamer, you have hundreds of guides to follow and replays to watch and learn from, but in the music industry everything is kinda kept a secret and hardly any pros make guides on it. If anyone has some tips to share on it then please say
I haven't really shown anyone my music for a long time since I have been focusing so hard on improving my production skills - Also, I don't have many real life friends that I can show my music to (I spend most of my time making music or gaming). I would really like some help from you guys. Please check out http://soundcloud.com/discretion if you have the time and see if you like it - Thanks!
