Here's the lesson.
If someone you don't know walks up to you and at any point in the conversation asks you for money for any reason, do not give it to them.
Please PM me with any songs you like that you think I haven't heard before!

"i need help, ill give you something valuable and you help me with money" is one of the most common lowlife RL scams.

Also, if someone does anything funny at the atm machine, you have to immediatly cancel and either make them stop or flee into the bank and tell someone.

Good thing I told him I can't help him and just left.

Yeah. That's him.

I wasn't offered anything valuable. Don't know where you get this from.

Third, what is the bank's response to the fact that they told you the money had cleared, and then it had not? You should be trying to hold that teller and/or the bank responsible for this as well.

Like that'll hold...

If a bank decides to do evil, they can get away with it because you've signed some terms and conditions.

This defeatist attitude you have makes it less surprising how easily scammed you were.

Banks don't want you to leave for another bank. I'm not promising anything but in general you need to learn to be an advocate for yourself.

I did advocate for myself. The problem is though that when I talked to the police they said that they'd seen this problem before and I wasn't likely to get my money back even if the guy was caught. It wasn't the bank that convinced me to give up on getting my money back, it was the police. I could be wrong though, I've been wrong before.

Anyways there are a lot of should have posts. I know I should have done differently. Looking back there were many signs and opportunities to stop. It's like watching a replay of a game you played when tired. "Why did I do so and so?"

Anyways, that's all for now. From now on I'll only do trustworthy things like investing in bridges. Anyone want to sell a few?

Next time, give him two bucks and tell him to take public transportation and point at a bus stop. If that's not good enough, what other evidence could you need.

You really allowed a complete stranger to follow you to the ATM and then hover nearby? I mean, I've handed out a few bucks to drug addicts that say they "need gas" or "socks" just to make them go away, but man...

I do too if the amounts over $10 bucks, just the other day a "single" mom came up and asked me for 5 bucks. I gave it to her without a second thought even though Im not exactly any where close to having a stable income. On the other hand this amount of money would make me have said no up front, had he some how got me even as far as getting to the bank, we would of gone through a teller first and not at the ATM at all.

I don't give a shit what excuse he gives, if he's gonna get a late fee because he needs to pay it by noon or w/e don't care. You want my help we go through the teller where they have more nets and hoops to jump through. That said, come on man, helping a person is one thing, but not even saying anything to the teller that this guy was randomly pushing buttons on the ATM outside?

Or that he pushed you out of the way after you put your pin in? If that guy had done that to me I'd of bounced his fat ass across the bank parking lot. 1 Snap kick to his knee and that fucker is rolling on the ground and then the cops would of come and his fat ass would of been locked up!
Limited Edition, lets do some simple addition, $50 for a T-Shirt is just some ignorant bitch shit.

It wasn't the bank that convinced me to give up on getting my money back, it was the police. I could be wrong though, I've been wrong before.

The police do not necessarily know what obligations the bank has towards you. A lot of fraud is covered by the bank as long as you did not do anything exceedingly stupid, and if a teller gave you false or misleading information I would at least contact the bank about it.

When I was about 17 someone somehow got my Visa CC number and ordered like 9,000 USD worth of Apple laptops and online poker credits (still no idea how they got my CC number). When I first contacted the bank on the phone after having my card blocked they told me how I would at least pay a 200USD fee and might not get reimbursed. This was a pretty big deal for me as I had like 300USD before all these charges. I set up a meeting at the bank and prepared myself by going over what kind of stuff they were legally required to cover and under what conditions I was responsible to cover stuff, and what exactly the contract I had signed with the bank said. However when I turned up at the bank they were very accommodating and just had me explain the situation (whether I had used the card on sketchy sites, whether other people had used my card, whether I suspected my PC to be infected with viruses, etc.), point out what charges were not made by me and had me sign a statement that I had handled my bank information responsibly and that I had nothing to do with these transactions, and they then refunded the full amount (the fee mentioned on the phone only applied if I had acted mildly irresponsibly, for instance if it took me more than 7 days to notice a fraudulent charge or if I had ever written down my PIN number anywhere to remember it. If I had acted very irresponsibly the fee would be 1300USD, but they would still refund anything beyond that).

I am not in the US and this was some years ago so your situation will likely differ, but you should at least contact the bank about this and remember to mention that you talked to a teller immediately.

Okay.

What the fuck.

When he pushed you away from the ATM and started doing shit to your account, you fucking leave. You get your card and leave, and go talk to a teller. You don't strike up a conversation with the guy.

Holy fuck stick

Signs were obvious, I don't know why you didn't just give him 5 to 10 bux to help him out and leave. If he's not accepting that, its obvious what he wants.

When I was a kid, my mother gave $10 or 20 to a homeless guy who said he hadn't eaten for 3 days. I remember that he was on the verge of tears, or so it seemed. A few minutes later we saw him the groceries with a beer. That set me straight: now I coldly watch homeless people when they beg for money in the metro - sorry if you're hungry, some other guy made me a shitty person and now I'll never give money to anybody, even when I feel like I should.

That's why if you ever want to help a homeless person, offer to BUY them food at a store nearby. If they tell you to piss off they obviously want it for drugs or alcohol.

Kidding, but never access your private information for a complete stranger. That was silly.

Just offer to take them to the nearest police station where they can get help.

I don't know what bank you have or how many banks have this, but at Chase there is a thing where you don't need an envelope on a check and you just stick it in and the machine scans it and the computer reads the digits on it so there is less chance of a mistake when you enter your deposits. Also, something about the ledger balance or something has never allowed me withdraw the full check amount at the same time I deposited it, so I don't know how you withdrew all the money unless you already had the funds to cover the check.

PS- FYi You can cash checks at grocery stores for like 1$ per hundred or something.

I find it funny that a guy from China is saying this scam is well known. How are these things up there, do they happen a lot in china for some specific reason?
