smart choice to focus on the studies in light of physical issues. still, win or lose, would love to see you play if you have the time and want to humor our incessant need for content. ;-) always will be one of the best players to root for given your amazing amiable nature.

Good luck in all your future endeavors! I think I speak for everyone who enjoyed watching your games that you are a winner in our books

All good things must end. Good Luck, may you find joy in all you do. The Starcraft 2 scene will be a worse place with you gone.
As for the scenes need loser, you were and are no loser. My favorite Team League match ever was you all killing EG. That was such an amazing set. Your play was fantastic, the planing perfect, I was more invested in that team match then any other team games.
Instill remember how great of a stream you ran, and how you read your chat and responded in such a nice manner.

Being a pro gamer is really fucking tough, you gave it your all and you made a meaningful impact on the community. You don't have anything to reproach yourself! Best of luck in the future, keep in touch!

No disrespect, but I find that properly insane that you complain that streaming is tough ("because maybe you forget to run some commercials"), implying being a DOCTOR is easier on a day to day basis.

Even though you state that you have worked before, I am not sure you really grasp what working a standard job is, especially compared to being a progamer...

I find your comments disrespectful to those who work on a day to day basis, and have to read you complaining about how tough life is when you are getting paid (in the most friendly/stable team there is in the scene) to play a video game, and travel around the world for tournaments.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck for your future endeavors, and I hope you will mature regarding the "toughness" of being a progamer related to other standard jobs.

Sheth has mentioned that he has worked before so he does have a frame of reference from both sides. You on the other hand do not so it's pretty ironic to scold Sheth about how he doesn't know what he's talking about when in fact you're the ignorant one. I LOVE video games but I would never in a million years be able to do that for 9 hours a day, every day. If Sheth says it's tough you have no reason to not believe him. By the way Stephano was much better at it then Sheth was (in both achievements and, I'd imagine, money) and he chose to quit as well so clearly Sheth is not just an outlier.

GL with everything you do in the future Sheth. As others have said before me chemistry is awesome.

Sheth said that he's mowed yards.. which is pretty damn far from an actual "job". Though the guy you were replying to was harsher than he probably needed to be, there was a lot of truth in what he was saying. The idea that gaming is within even a comparable measure to the stress and time-commitment of med school is laughable.

But back on topic of the thread - best wishes to Sheth on his future endeavors. Hope you find the willpower to get into healthy shape and and drive/focus to succeed w/school... if that's what you end up landing on.

You are a winner in my eyes, Sheth. Pro life is only something you do out of love of what you do. The pay is crap, the hours are plentiful, the stress as you mention, and furthermore you are pretty much forced to do it even when you are sick of the game(which comes in periods). When you get obstacles that cannot be torn down, you need to re-evaluate. You are not the first to be robbed of your career by injuries, and will not be the last. Some people never get over it mentally. You seem to do, because you see opportunities.

A fit body as you have now, is making the mind stronger. And you need a strong mind to prevail in anything you do, if you want to stay on top.

I am well aware that you still love the game, and your mind is working on coping with the loss, that your hands prevented you doing what you love(d). You gave us one hell of a fight. The goal is not the end goal, but the ride from A to Z. I hope you enjoyed it as well, and have collected many fond memories. I hope you will focus on all the rich good things that happened, rather than becoming bitter. You will always have a eFamily here, and all the people you met through eSport, with people that love you and wish you all the best. We love you, because you are you, not your results, or being a pro.

We can't all be winners. Games need losers too.

Like others said before - sorry mate, you don't get away this easily. You brought so much class, maturity and humor into this scene, stuff it very badly needed. I consider you one of the best things to happen to professionel gaming and winning a game or two more would not affect that judgement one bit. Get healthy, stay healthy, best of luck in your life, sir!

As with all the rest, best of luck in the future!

I will side here with those who think the life of a pro-gamer is.. well, pretty bad. Long hours, bad pay, the usual... But also the fact that it's competition. Someone's gotta lose. And it's the guy who put in less time, or had some run in with bad chance. The crazy thing about sc compared to traditional physical sports is that while your body tops out in physical practice, the limit for pro-gamers is very high. You can't play 10 hours of football or basketball. You CAN play 10 hours of games and more. Losing is part of the game, and unfortunately for some, it's the most likely outcome in the grand scheme of things.

I wouldn't say being a doctor is easier, but it's certainly the better route to go. Hours, pay.. Plus the mental rewards that it gives. It's much easier at the end of a bad day for a doctor to cope well versus a pro-gamer. The doctor can say "well at least I'm a part of a field that strives to save and improves people's lives". The pro-gamer can say "I help provide entertainment to people". It's not black and white, there are certainly reasons to pick the entertainment route, but for me personally, I would certainly view being a doctor as more rewarding.

A long time ago, like maybe even a few weeks after WoL beta, Sheth coached me. It was the first time I'd ever been coached at any game, and I was nervous for some reason. I was being taught by the Sheth himself!

Well, Sheth was so fucking nice and patient, he really made everything seem so easy and put a lot of other stuff into perspective for me. After the lesson, I got really, really inspired to play. I was so pumped that I pursued gaming as a profession myself, only to fall quite short due to some of the pitfalls mentioned in the OP. I don't even have to say it, but damn Sheth was so nice. He would even see me playing, and would message me for a while after our lesson to check up on me, give me some more advice, etc.

So Sheth, you helped me out so much and I really appreciate everything you've done with your career. Both as a fan and as a student, best of luck no matter what happens out there man.

I still check every new game to see if you signed up...and am still disappointed every time.

GL sir Sheth!
if I had to describe his playstyle, it'd be a coked up rabbit with the attention of a goldfish injecting caffeine into himself directly through an IV drip. it's like a reel of random animated shorts where things just blow up randomly

Such a heartbreaking blog to find out you may not be coming back Sheth. However, health should always be priority no matter what line of work you are in.

Best of luck. GL HF!

good luck sheth, and take care of yourself. Teamliquid always has a place for you (as does mafia, you scum).

I remember speaking to chosen back at mlg anaheim 2011, watched him play on mainstage and hand out tl pins. Study hard - as a resident of the 19th grade, I can tell you that even though school is easier than work, being best in the world in anything is pretty tough

I don't think you should have any regrets at all about your progamer career, you did very well and it was a pleasure cheering for you. I'm convinced you won't do anything but great when you start channeling that hard work into college and health.

GL and take care!

If Stephano is retiring, I think its okay for you to retire . It was a fun run, you probably made some good friends in the process and got to travel quite a bit. I can't think of that as being a failure when you think about it objectively, although I suppose you could travel for other reasons (like a Las Vegas gambling trip). Anyway, ummm good luck dieting!

i do not know what kind of hand problems you have... i am no pro and even i have hand and finger problems
to be exact... my right wrist and right index finger joint

there is this bracer sold in wal-green, i think all pro gamers need to have it
it sets your right wrist at the correct position when you are sleeping and doing something else not during games
don't wrap it too tight though... ideally you want wrist at good position AND constant flow of blood stream going through
during your sleep, the blood stream will repair tissues

secondly, sleep more is key to slimmer body
the funny thing about sleeping is that you really don't consume more calories
i suggest turning that idea of "power nap" around... instead having "power training session"
basically, as important as training and practice can be, reducing body's "burden" is also key

anyway, i wish you well, no matter what your final decision is
It's an Art and I hope I can see beautifully fought matches.

I know I'm late to seeing this blog, but just wanted to wish you a big good luck in your academic endeavors Sheth! I really enjoyed getting my degree in chemistry. Even though I don't use it now in my job at all and haven't in a long time, I think it's a great degree for those seeking to increase their analytical capabilities. Hope you enjoy it and are successful!
