i don't know if there are any states like montanna were you need to fill up at every gas station because you don't know when you'll find the next one but you should be fine.
No one is going to kill you lol. Though, most small town people tend to be fairly conservative, if that is what you mean. That doesn't make them racist, and you shouldn't assume that they are, you'll be fine.

I think we'll renting a one way car. Just for the kick of it, my gf and I are both having internship in the west coast and we thought it'll be cool to drive back to Boston in a span of 10 days.
It can be very difficult to rent a car and drive it cross-country... I think most rental agreements have a stipulation that you can't cross the Mississippi river... I would research this carefully before obligating yourself in any way. Going for a 10 day drive just for the kick of it seems like a decision you might regret, though. So much of that trip is through nothingsville.
Yeah i'd check into the rental car company first. And you're probably going to get super bored unless you do something fun along the way pretty much every day. And you might want to kill your gf after being in a car with her for ten days. Stop by chicago evan :D
I went from New Jersey to San Francisco by way of New Mexico, so I can't speak for your whole way, but from Indiana eastward you'll be fine, and I'd assume folks west of that are hospitable as well.

Personally, driving through endless plains was surreal for me in its own way. There's nowhere around where I live that you can see for 20 miles pretty much all around you. If you can find the odd hill in the middle of those plains, you can even start to see the curvature of the earth.
i mean, i know it is a tired trope, but i could at least understand being a little hesitent about the south if you are not white... but to be afraid of that about areas you dont even know at all?? might wanna rethink who is being a bit unfair (or even bigoted) here...

the irony level here is astounding.
the south is scary af dude when i was little and we drove across mississippi, it was always lock the doors, drive all night so we wouldn't have to stop there. especially in the smaller areas you can see some scary things
up north on the other hand, kinda meh. But don't be fooled into thinking that it's not a valid concern

Ok what the fuck. The south isn't some super-hostile hellzone where everybody and their mothers fly Confederate flags and drive big trucks with a shotgun and white cloak in the back. If you're Asian, people will stare at you because there are no Asians there for some reason. Sometimes you'll run into a lone idiot who will chew you out for being "un-American" or some shit if you have an accent and you aren't white, but that's about it. Maaaybe you'll run into a gang or a racist that is actually dangerous, but that's like running into a bear up north or something. Just stay out of the obvious bad places and you'll be fine.
Drove from Durham, North Carolina to Portland, Oregon. 3300 miles, four days, 12-13 hours each day.
It's safe. And although there is a lot of nothing in the middle e.g. Kansas and Wyoming, it's still pretty fun if you are with the right people.
EDIT: Plan your trips well so you are not sleeping in some sketchy town out in the middle of nowhere. I stayed in St. Louis, Denver, and Salt Lake City.

he said nothing at all about the south, so i am not sure why youre bringing up your story trying to justify something he didnt say. also his original statement was dumb and ignorant as fuck. how the hell can you even wonder about getting hurt by racists if you dont even know anything about the area?? so stupid
