Just thought I'd make a little written version of a vlog I've also just uploaded, some people like to read, some like to watch and listen, so both options are available! (Though the vlog might not be as concise as this post, given that it was mainly ad hoc) CLICK HERE for the VLOG version
I had the privilege of being able to cast Dreamhack over the weekend as one of the community commentators. It was a really great experience to be a part of Dreamhack, though only a small-scale community stream, it was a great way to make a small contribution to a tournament that I personally think is probably one of the best in the world. I had a huge amount of fun with the folks who turned up to watch - and while I know my stream quality isn't the best (damn Australian internet) - I'd like to hope that my commentary helped out with that issue a little. On that topic; for those who tuned in and hadn't heard me cast before (or those who are long time watchers!) please feel free to give me any feedback you have on my commentary!
I really wanted to give a big shoutout to the Swedish, Polish, Czech, Finnish, Dutch and even a few Norwegian fans who watched the stream to cheer on some of their favourite players! You guys were absolutely awesome to have joining me, not only being generally nice folks and passionate about ESPORTS; but for being there to cheer on your local players who had a few tough games! A lot of the matches in day 1 featured relatively lower-level or unknown players who were up against some top level pros. The biggest example of this, was Swedish Terran Morrows (Not the IEM winning Morrow... the other Swedish Terran!) who was up against none other than FXOGumiho.
It's one thing that I really admired during day 1 (and partly in day 2) of the event - people giving it a go, and despite the odds, competing and having fun playing the game that we love. It's probably the greatest part of having an open tournament - it lets you experience the thrill of joining in a tournament with some of the best players of the world.
Anyway; during the MaNa vs Devil games, the Czech and Polish invasion begun and with around 1,200 folks watching I had a lot of fun, even learning a few lines of Czech (and apparently an Australian pronouncing Czech words is quite a funny sight... watch the VoD on my Twitch). All of you guys from the local EU regions were really cool, so again, thank you for making it great fun!
On day 2 in Group stage 3 I got to cast every single game from Australia's own x5_PiG, which was an awesome opportunity for me to be able to bring my local SEA and Australian brethren live coverage of our Zerg star doing his best in a great tournament. I would like to thank all the Aussies (and Kiwi's) who woke up at around 6am or earlier to cheer on PiG, with the famous "NOTORIOUS PIG" flooding the chat (in good spirits) as PiG took out StarNaN, lost to ToD (although we had some fun moments there...) and then even got to take a game off the premiere Korean Zerg champion ST_Life.
Big thanks to Dreamhack, it's sponsors Eizo, Logitech, KingstonHyperX and TwitchTV - and particularly Steisjo who gave us all the info we needed. If you have questions, feedback, any additional thoughts please feel free to post here, or contact me directly.
Lastly; if you missed any of the games I was casting and wanted to check them out, I've listed all the games below with a link to game 1 of the series.
Cheers,
