The Game
Early Game
+ Show Spoiler +
Seeing as I aimed towards using dark templar for my first drop (might as well make the first one devastating, eh?) I went for a standard 1gate FE for my opener, expanding off of 1 MSC and 2 stalkers.
Emily, are you sure you don't have a Stalker problem?
As soon as I can affor, I drop down a twilight council, 3 extra gateways, and robotics bay. I dropped the TC, of course, to make my sexy little dark shrine.
I haven't made this much tech all at once since I started playing "standard"!
My derping around trying to drop build flowed better than I expected, and my prism speed managed to finish up right as the dark shrine did as well. Flying right in with 3 DTs, I started terrorizing the SCV line.
If DTs were bullies, they'd be the kind that shove C-4 into your locker and fucking kill you.
The overall harassment went extremely well because, you know, terrans think they can just slack of detection because they have scans. My DTs went undetected for a good while.
Most kills award goes to... This DT! 17 kill master. I'm proud of you, DT. The final kill count on the 3 dts alone from that drop was 28 workers.
You make Aiur proud! Or Shakuras! Or somewhere.
A second drop is attempted a couple of minutes later, which I really wish I had made into DTs again instead of zealots. I could have sniped the detection then went to work on his army... but alas, I was a little bit worse then than I am now.
The zealots weren't even able to do any damage because I forgot to micro them at all and went back to macroing.
So commander, we just need to chase these SCVs? Into those marines...? Sounds stupid, but I guess an order's an ord-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHGHGH!!!
During the 1st DT drop, there actually was a very nearly game-ending attack by the terran. At roughly 10 minutes, the oh-so-rare double medivac attack came; however, due to my rushing of dts and speedprism, I had no colossi to defend!
OshitOshitOshitOshit
The army falling left and right, the nexus health plummeting, the photons blasting! What has this world come to! Will the nexus survive!?
And then suddenly, a lone warpin of zealots; The heroes of Aiur!
MY LIFE FOR AIUUUUUUUUR
THE ZEALOTS FALLING LEFT AND RIGHT; THE MARINES KITING TO HELL! BUT THE PHOTON OVERCHARGE PERSISTS!
YOU DID WELL EMILY!
THE BASE SURVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES!!!
So yeah I was pretty happy that my natural survived. Really helped since I devoted a lot to the early drop and that actually did manage to deal a pretty good deal of damage.
Mid game
+ Show Spoiler +
Since I feel like there could be a pretty large deal of things that I could go over for the mid game (and that'd start taking forever for me to write) I've decided to just throw in the snippets of what happened for the mid game.
A second attack comes from the terran at about 14 minutes... nothing that a warp in of dts can't deal with.
The battle ended with me getting a slight edge, mostly because terrans don't know how to bring along mobile detection to fights.
Like all terrans, this one also tried a few drops on me. The largest drop was at my 3rd base, with him dropping most of his army onto the base.
Oh no, the probes... they're like scrap metal!
I rushed over with all of my units, and for some reason the terran didn't just lift off and go into my main (which would have screwed me SO bad)... it ended up a pretty 1-sided fight.
The aftermath.
For a while both of us begin to just macro up our armies and upgrades. I decide my next line of action in drops must be a storm drop... and a storm drop I made. Preparing my templar far ahead of time, I move in towards his 3rd base after being shot away from his main.
wait for it, wait for it...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
My god, do storm drops feel good. My opponent actually did react before all of his units died, but I still managed to snag down about 20 workers with a mere 2 storms.
To finish off the mid-game is the first full on, 200/200 army battle. My units are only at +3 attack while his are at 3/3... the engagement goes terribly.
No UI pictures, ooh lah laaah!
Having started the fight with my colossi up font, I was severely lacking in the AoE to fight a terran army. That was one terrible engagement, and that seriously made me believe I'd just lose the game then and there.
End Game
+ Show Spoiler +
The existence of the end game time period its self was a stroke of luck for me. Unlike my enemy, I had a huge bank saved up; as his forces rolled in after the victorious battle, I somehow managed to hang on with warpins and photon overcharges.
Where's your advantage now??
My colossi production soared by adding on another robo facility, and to counter the large amount of vikings, I decided to also add 2 stargates into my infastructure. I also began researching and chronoboosting out my armor and shields upgrades AFAP.
AFAP; As fast as possible. Start using that phrase.
DTs also helped a lot with my defenses since my enemy didn't know how to make a raven. I also started to get thrown off my the terran's mobility, losing bases and probes left and right. However, I also started to notice that the loss of probes was helping me out since I had such a large bank. My army size began to grow a lot.
Stahp running you pussy!
The final, conclusive battle, was fought over a single semi-proxy pylon. As he moved out to snipe this pylon, I saw my chance and started to move in from behind. The area was very walled in, so my zealots wouldn't be able to get a surround, but at the same time his marines also couldn't kite.
My army composition was too strong for the terran enemy. Had he made far move vikings and some ghosts to EMP, he may have just made it, but as it stood his army was obliterated.
War of the Worlds, anyone?
The game finishes off with a satisfying stroll into his production base. GG!
Final summation; an occasional game with drop play is very satisfying and fun to play. It also can require a lot more micro than I'm used to if I want it to work perfectly, adding even more to the challenge. Although drops aren't some sort of crazy, unnatural strat, I do believe that many players forget about the usefulness of warp prisms as a protoss player. If you usually don't use drop play, give it a shot next time you ladder; you might get some fun results!
Thanks as usual for reading fellow players, GL, HF!
