I do remember a fond moment though where I beat a person who was higher than D+ but was playing on a D+ account. I sure beat him and he asked for my max rank and was simply aghast when I told him that I had only ever gotten to D+ and he ended the game saying "gg man."
On a side note I used to go for a very peculiar Lurker+spore+sunken colony defense style in ZvP, then go Ultra/Ling. Gooooood 'ol Ultra ling, until I met a Protoss user who used large amounts of Reaver to accompany his army, archons, and good ups. I realized Defilers were essential. Since then my ZvP has been more...freestyle I guess. No "mechanic based" style.
I prefer going freestyle when it comes to Protoss and Terran which usually ends up in my devastating loss, but with Zerg I play the same way every time depending on the match up. If you set up Lurkers+Spores at your natural 3rd on FS, practically unbreakable by protoss. I started using the strategy when I had a 1v1 partner called afxftw. Old 1v1 times. You learn things everyday.D+ ladder Protoss simply crumbles to pure Ultra/ling, or maybe I'm wrong. I realized the true beauty and potential that is the drooling Defiler. Plague and consume? Amazingly cost effective.
I know this one guy, sandman86, truly a player that is a dying breed. He's been playing Sc1 since it came out and is basically the number 1 master in guerrilla tactics and playing an extremely conservative style in FFA. He employs a combination of Defilers, mass Queens for Broodling, parasites, and he uses Scourge in the most cost effective way possible. You won't believe how cost effectively he deals with Carriers and Battlecruisers. Point is, don't go BC or Carrier when going up against sandman86. His 1v1 is fairly good too, but his FFA skills are legendary. They're so legendary it comes to the point he'd stand up to Flash. His Blood Bath FFA skills? Flash holds no flame to him when it comes to Blood Bath. He's just that good. I'll try to rummage through my replays to get at least 1 replay. I'm afraid no replays were found, but I'll grace you with one to show I'm not lying about how good this guy's moves are in my next blog post. His FFA skills are so good, at times it can be frustrating and not fun to play with him. Just that good...
I realize also different trends within the progaming scene. You simply do not employ the common 1v1 build order tactics in FS on a map like Blood Bath which is only 64x64 with extremely close bases. It becomes as you say less standardized and common early/mid/late game transitions are a no no on maps like BB or just any map that is not modern Kespa or iccup style. Island maps have also been out of style but were common in the early days of the existence of KesPa. It's a matter of adapting properly and knowing what to do. I know a few people who only play on FS and refuse to play on any other maps. Is this necessarily bad or does it not provide enough flexibility? Of course these same people usually just tumble and fumble into the abyss when it comes to FS. You simply do not go 12 hatch on BB. It's a law.
That'll be the end folks, post down comments below, and trust me, after watching snipealot2's stream I'm gonna get better. Actually, his stream gave me that extra push to go on Fish. On an ending note, I'd like to share a quote from Bisu mentioning Sc2 and comparing it to Sc1. Good bye. "If I had force fields in StarCraft 1, I'd never lose." -Bisu
