Hi ya'll
I've been doing my time (mandatory military service) for being born Korean and felt like stopping by and saying hello.
I've barely posted since I enlisted and that's because there's a silly policy that soldiers should refrain from posting things publically and prohibit me from commenting on the military in a negative light. I'm not sure how uptight they (there's a department whose sole task is to find military personnel who say 'inappropriate' things on the internet) are about that but they recently banned soldiers from using facebook in our base so
Those of you who know/remember me, especially from DotA, here I am. Hi! <3 to all I'm alive and well. Since I'm too narcissistic to commit suicide, there's probably less than a 0.0001% chance I'll die serving my country for those who aren't familiar with what the Korean military is like.
There's a saying in Korean culture that serving in the military is like taking a time machine since you rarely get contact with the outside world and when you get discharged, things have changed more than you think so you feel like a caveman in modern society. The cool thing is I feel like I remember every second and moment of the last 18 months yet... it kind of feels short at the same time.
I started playing LoL last month to see what the hype is about (never really gave it a real shot before). I can see the appeal (it's fun so far tbh) but things that made, MAKE, DotA great are missing.
Anyway I'm kind of short on time so leave comments and questions!

What's MAKE? Is this a MOBA in Korea? More information would be awesome.
Good luck for the rest of your enlistment!

He was just talking about Dota, you're reading it wrong haha (ie. he was putting emphasis on the word 'make) Good stuff Heen, dota2 is looking to be the next (hopefully big) thing in Korea with GOM picking it up and FXO picking up a team.
Hopefully we hear from you again soon

Will you come back to Dota2?
|
rabid <3
Sure Though I'm not sure how competitively I'll play. Even if the Korean community for DotA were to increase tenfold (which still doesn't make it a lot), it'd take at least a year for Koreans to be of any threat in international competitions imo.

How come Korean play more LoL than Dota?
|
Enjoy the rest of your stay in the army, when you're out we'll make a team to win TI4, no big deal.

- MMR system lets newbies play in peace (newbs got questioned on item prices and kicked in korean dota) - it's easy to pick up - godly ping - doesnt have different servers like dota does (bnet, ggc, etc): less trouble @ pc bang and keeping touch with friends - koreans love spending money on games - LOL heroes tend to have more active skills = hero itself is perceived to be more fun to play in solo queue - koreans like lol graphics apparently

Gotta get out of the military and train a Korean team imo.
Good luck! Nice to hear from you.

Wait so your just done your military service or still in it? If you got out, consider looking into the korean dota2 scene :D. GomTV is picking it up and teamliquid could sure use some expert ground coverage.

I'm assuming from the thread title that he still has 6 months to go. By then I guess there's good odds the SK Dota 2 server will already be up at least.
