I've finally made it back to C-. It's taken me 67 games on my lzrguidebanana account to get there. I think my rank this time is much more legit than my season 13 C-, since I didn't dodge vZ this time, and I didn't farm 4 games off a guy who was really mad that I overpooled his proxy 2rax 4 times in a row. On the other hand I feel like iccup as a whole is far weaker than it was 3 years ago, but that could be because I am better than I used to be.

And that is because SC2 has made me a much stronger player. As much as I despise SC2, and as little fun as I had grinding it, it's made me a better player. It might be fair to call me a "SC2 player" instead of "BW player," since I have 4000+ games of SC2 played and only around 800-900 total games of BW, even though I played BW first. SC2's low mechanical ceiling forced me to think about my actions, the purpose of my build, and how to take risks and coinflip. Conversely, when I played BW all my attention was focusing on executing my build and trying to not screw up my macro. SC2 let me experience what it's like to be in control of your mechanics and how to think at the same time as executing. I still have many, many games where I'm just cruising on autopilot and trying to do everything correctly, but I think the game that pushed me from D+ to C- is an example of how I've become a more complete player instead of just purely focusing on mechanics.

a 3900 C- Terran joins my game. I know from seasons past that if someone joins your game and he's a rank or close to 2 ranks above you, he's going to fucking cheese the shit out of you. so i overpool and drone scout

he pulls back when his scouting scv sees my lings and lifts his rax to prevent me from targeting his scvs. this means 2 things: mech, and possibly 2port wraith

somehow i let his scv into my main when i'm not paying attention. i really need to work on paying attention to my minimap. i was planning on going overpool -> 2hat muta +3rd hat after gas, but since he's in my main, i'm going to switch it up

after his scv is dead, i start my hydra den. it's late, but i think it's definitely worth it, given that i know he's still on 1base and has to commit to some kind of funky allin, and it's way past 2port wraith time.

he goes for some kind of goliath/marine/bunker contain and starts building turrets in anticipation of mutas. i know he's going to try and rally tanks to my nat. that scv building the turret in this screen shot is actually in range of my sunkens, so he had to cancel and build it a little further back

i send my lurkers to my close third and circumvent his force sitting out on the map. now i've managed to cut off his tanks and the rest of his army, and he can't reinforce. i've started a spire by now, because he'll have stopped goliath production entirely in favor of tanks.

i clean up his tank/gol in the middle of the map with 12 mutas, and he retreats to his ramp

I think if I grind 200-300 games more at C- level I could probably get to C, but given that I've never actually tried to mass game at C- level I have no idea whether or not I can actually do it. Also, my TvZ is a real weakness. I managed to go 11-13 and get to D+ in TvZ, but once I reached D+ for some reason very few zergs joined my games, so I only got one or two games of practice at D+ level for TvZ.
