So I have to start off by talking about this class I am in. Literature of the Western World. It is probably the most laid back class I have ever been in... except for the three papers that we have to do. Anyways, the class theme is love.. Cliche, I know. The important thing here is that we just read the craziest books:
Song of Songs (it is in the Bible...)
Plato's Symposium (Sandusky... man...)
Ovid's Erotic Poems (we are currently on this...)
Virgil's Doomed Love
The Letters of Abelard and Heloise
The Seducer's Diary
Daphnus and Chloe (I may have spelled that wrong)
Anyways, as you can imagine if you have read some of these. They can get pretty intense. And well... it was Valentine's day.
So I sit by two people in that class. One was my old roommate, somehow we ended up with a class together. And the second person is... Felicity (thanks Day J)... Just a random girl I had never met, but you know. Open seat on the first day, and she sat there ever since. At first I didn't think anything of it, but about three weeks ago, I was like. Dang. She is pretty. I am going to ask her out. I just didn't know how.
Long story short, I haven't really. Why not, you might ask? Well because I have no idea where things will go in such a busy semester. The idea of dating right now terrifies me, ultimately because I am a student and money isn't exactly growing on trees for me right now. I want to be that "gentleman." Ultimately, it is like I can't afford it. And no body likes excuses, so I am just not sure what to do.
Well that whole thought is like 9 days old... I was at the gym with my old roommate, and we were talking about the girls in our English class... I mean what else do you do at the gym? I mentioned Felicity, and how I thought she was cute. Now, I quote: he responds "You won't do anything about it." So of course, the first thing that pops out of my head... "Yeah I will, I am going to do something on Valentine's Day"
"Oh yeah, what?"
"Well, here is what I am going to do. I am going to take a note. Write Dear Felicity, Will you be my Valentine? Then two check boxes at the bottom... Yes or No."
So that was my grand plan. Probably the cheesiest scheme ever. Not to mention cliche, but I said I was going to do it. So I had to...
Meanwhile, word spreads about Felicity. Everyone hears about my plan. The reactions were as follows for everyone:
Girls: "OMG, that is so cute!"
Guys: "Dude, you are gay."
Well, seeing how this is a girl. I thought my chances were pretty good. I mean cute is a good reaction right? Honestly, I have no idea if Felicity really likes me or not, but we talk some in class. Kind of like acquaintances... so it is a gutsy move. I don't know how she will respond!
So class rolls along tonight. Awesome. So excited. Yet so nervous. I get in class, see my roommate, he is like. I am filming this. So he sets his phone up at an angle (and yes he did film it).
I hadn't written the note because I had just come from another class. So during class, I discretely pen my love note. Really more like a Valentine's day note because it wasn't super intense. She was totally next to me, so you have to admire my discreteness.
I write it.
Fold it up.
Put it under my arm.
Slide my arm to the left a bit (where she sits).
...Slight problem.
As I said before, we are reading the Erotic Poems by Ovid. So of course, the general class discussion is about multiple girlfriends, nailing a chick 9 times, extreme sexism by guys, being addicted to sex, shallow love, etc.
Not the best moment to pass her a Valentine's day note... I don't want her to pick it up and be like "I HATE MEN, NO!"
Timing is everything after all (learned that from SC2).
So I wait. 15 minutes before class is over. I am almost nervous now that I won't find the right time. I find an opening though, and I chance it! I slide it over. She sees it. Looks at it. And gives me an odd look like what is this? I nod to confirm that it is indeed a note for her. She has no idea what is in it.
Meanwhile... I am freaking out on the inside. There are two reactions that could happen.
1) She reads the note. Freaks out because she has a boyfriend. Hates Men. Or just thinks I am the ugliest guy on earth. Gets angry. Marks No. Awkward wait for the end of class, and she never sits there again. Probably, could get worse than that too! This is only what I can imagine!
2) She reads the note. Blushes slightly with a smile. Slowly puts the note down, and with a trembling and nervous hand checks by yes!
So I wait for a response. Obviously, I am awful at predicting them, or girls are just the most mysterious thing on earth (probably both of those statements are true). She picks the note up. Reads it, probably only half way, and starts laughing. (All caught on film... btw). She nods yes and puts the note back down in my direction.
Then she looks at me, and I kind of give off this sheepish grin. And I was like,
"Hey, you gotta check it!"
So (still laughing) she takes it back. Writes a box with "Sure" inside, and checks it!
I'll take that! So the end of class rolls around, she definitely didn't think it was serious (probably because of my natural swagger.. \sarcasm). But she told me and my roommate goodnight as she left. It definitely made her laugh. A lot! We talked a bit, and I mentioned I had no follow up plan (I really didn't), but I would come up with something on Tuesday (when our next class was).
So that is all I got guys. I had no idea what would happen, but I gave it all I got tonight. Everything happened so fast. No number, but a world of opportunity awaits! I am hoping for the best!
I never have done anything like this on Valentine's Day before, so today was definitely the most exhilarating Valentine's day I have ever had!
