It's like when you bought that first new car and it was so shiny and new. At that time everyone was buying these things because they were so cool. There were hundreds of people in the owners club, each person proud of their new toy.
2 years later, you have the same car. It by any measure does all the same things that it used to do, but somehow it's not the same car you bought 2 years ago. Nobody is talking about it any more. There is a new model out there, and you realise that in fact you really want this new car, not the old one.
Twenty years later you are walking down the street and you see the same kind of car you bought for you first bought parked on the street. Somehow this car is absolutely immaculate, and it still shines like the day you bought your first car. You realise that this really was an amazing car.
Somebody loved and cherished that car every day. He didn't care that it was cool, or that it meant you could be part of the gang. The reason is because he saw the car for what it really was, and appreciated it.
You feel sad. Not because of the car, but because you realise you went through this entire process with so many girlfriends and jobs and countless other things in your life. It's dawned on you, that you are a shallow person.

People and organisations that love Starcraft (both BW and SC2) will be the ones to succeed.
I honestly think that SC2 has enough popularity to maintain a small professional scene, but it's not going to change the world. Embrace Dota and embrace LoL, it is definitely a good thing for Starcraft to bring more people into PC gaming. Mobas really are a small step away from RTSs, and there will be some feedback from those games into SC2 during HOTS and other releases.
Finally, if you are someone who is abandoning SC2, then don't come here and tell us all about it to satisfy your own narcissism. It's not going to help anybody, in fact it is just depressing. Just go, and don't make such a goddamn scene about it.
