I've loved Starcraft since I recieved Broodwar under the table for one of my earlier birthdays. I cheated my way through the campaign and fell in love with the story. The fall of Kerrigan, the dominion just all of it. I never got into the ladder though. Helms Deep custom maps was where it was at. I played the crap out of that, that was my only experience with Broodwar however.
I waited on Starcraft 2 with baited breath. I followed the beta, watched HDH, watched everything I could get my hands on. "Oh man, HuK did WHAT?", "This TLO guy nuked the shit out of that zerg, awesome!", and so many other things. I never got into the beta, but I showed up to the midnight release three hours and was the first in line at my local gamestop. I drive home and installed it, only to find out my laptop couldn't play it. I wasn't able to even play the campaign until July 2012.
So, I continued to watch the pro scene. Rise and fall of Jinro and HuK in the GSL. I was such a fanboy of both of theirs during that time period. I almost exclusively cheered for the foreign hopes, I remember staying up to ridiculous hours to watch any foreigner play. Then school happened, was hard to keep interest in a game I couldn't even play. Then one day I just started watching IPL 4 on my new desktop and installed the game.
I made my way through the campaign and loved it. I wanted to be great at this game, Grandmaster or bust! So I watch Day9, watch apollo and think up some strategies I want to do. Two engineering bays, pump out upgrades and focus on marine, tank, medivacs to start off with to work on mechanics and multitasking. I do one placement watch, and just exit. I was too nervous. And that was that, that was my terran experience and I went back to just watching.
Cue a few weeks back, I hear about this SKT.Rain. My school has gotten pretty hectic (god damned finals), so I had fallen behind a bit and catch some games. I watch the Day9 regarding his PvZ and something just clicked. That, that is what I wanted to do. I had always been teetering on the terran vs protoss precipice (no interest in zerg, just eh), and this pushed it. Between the chronoboost and warpgates (which I just find awesome), I just REALLY like zealots. I think they're nifty. And I've just got caught up in watching all my favorite protoss players playing.
So, starting yesterday I started taking down general build ideas with the main idea with getting my macro and mechanics in some basic level. I realize that HOTS will change everything, but working on mechanics of pylons and probes will have a ground floor set for when I start.
I don't dream of being a grandmaster anymore. I dream of seeing where I land and just getting better. Do I want to flat out at diamond? Hell no. I WANT grandmaster and I want it bad, but the main idea is to have fun and just keep improving. And the start of that is making it through one placement game.
This blog will be me keeping track of my journey in this. Mainly for myself, but if anyone else reads it, that is awesome. Wish me luck.

Good luck! I feel somewhat the same way, not necessarily aiming for GM because I want to improve, but not necessarily thinking I'll never make GM. One day, maybe!

Thank you for the well wishes! Good luck to you as well! I'm going to shoot for the stars, so there is something always to keep reaching for, keep me working.
It's just so baffling that anyone has spent their time reading this, and that over 60 people have already is humbling. If I had been asked, I would have guessed it would be single digits. I feel like that will hold me accountable not just to actually followthrough, but to also keep updating.

Thank you, and I most certainly will! I'm trying to get into HotS beta currently, just pre-ordered before class today on BNet and from what I understood I could just sign into the Beta after installing that client.
Really hoping to get at least okay macro and mechanics prior to release!

I really enjoyed reading your blog. It was sort of the opposite for me. I got into SC2 from playing Broodwar. Only after that did I start watching pro games (like old VOD's of Jaedong - god... we loved that guy in my Uni dorm). Then suddenly StarCraft II was about to come out which was really exciting. I watched the Battle Reports and we (dorm) decided to create the first international David Kim fanclub (German, Spanish, English, Scottish members  ) because he would just come back from the craziest situations and win. Impressive stuff. Anyway, good luck with your journey and keep the updates coming. I'm interested in how you will place.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It was a very spur of the moment type thing, just kinda spewed it out and said "Yep, this is happening". Wasn't planning on making the blog until I had already halfway written it in my head. I hope that each blog keeps getting better as I progress through this game. Will be putting as much effort into these as I do into learning how to not suck at Starcraft 2!
I've been working on an update throughout the day and since I DID get HotS beta I'll be jumping into some practice and vs AI tonight and will add that in at the end of the new post. Updates will probably be more frequent towards the start because I'll be progressing at a faster rate I imagine.
I really loved Brood War's campaign, the story was just great and kept me playing all day. Then like I said, played A LOT of Helms Deep, 99% it was Haldir that I always tried to get. The Marine hero, Aragorn zealot was fun too. But I moved onto Warcraft 3 single player, I was pretty anti-social in regards to games and really only started playing with other people when WoW came out. Drastic jump there!
