I've always been interested in religion, whether debating on the truth of a religious faith, or discussing the benefits or cons of religion in society. On the other hand, I love StarCraft, so today I decided to make a little compendium of the religious faiths of players, casters, or personalities in the scene. Through a combination of Facebook stalking, Twitter and watching interviews, I will make a list of the religions of StarCraft just for fun and reference.

This is not intended to spark religious debate, just a fun list on how StarCraft 2 is divided in terms of faith

Atheism/Agnosticism/Non-religious
- IdrA (Facebook says he is a "Militant Atheist")
- DeMuslim (Agnostic according to FB)
- HyuN (Says "무교", which translates to "Non-religious")
- Day9 (I remember some tweet he did during MLG Dallas 2012 where he said he didn't believe in God, but believed in his crew)
- Tasteless (Facebook says Atheist, and he subscribed to Dawkins)
- Ostojiy
- Kevin Knocke
- Artosis
- TLO
- Cella
- Wolf
- CatZ (His blog about some MLG Arena mentioned he didn't believe in religion I think)
- qxc

Christianity
- iNcontroL (Stated several times he is Catholic in interviews, his blog and FB)
- Jaedong(?) (He follows some famous Korean pastor on Twitter, not very conclusive though)
- Ryung (Same as Jaedong)
- PuMa (Ditto)
- Creator (During an IPL5 interview, he said he likes to pray before games and attends church frequently)
- Backho
- Nal_rA (Apparently Christian according to Naver)
- BoxeR (Says he is Catholic on Naver)
- MMA (His parents are pastors, and he said he prayed a bit before his games)
- NaDa
- Sheth
- Sea
- PartinG
- INoVation
- iloveoov

Flashism (Because it is necessary)
- Everybody

If you guys have anything to contribute, please send me a PM or post in the blog.

Backho became a pastor and used the sn "Jesus"

Made so much more sense why he used the ID Jesus when the retirement interview came out

Korea is a weird mixed-bag of religion. It has a good majority of non-religious people (44% I believe), but the religious right tend to have the influence in politics. Christianity is pretty popular recently, and a lot of Korean pros likely have parents who are religious or Christian themselves. But a lot of players I noticed keep their faiths to themselves for some reason.

I've been trying to find a translated video (or really any video) of right after nada winning osl after defeating anytime, because he dedicates the win to his father and specifically says he is in heaven as far as I know; I've seen that before. Nada definitely has some spirituality with Christian heaven

emotional letter to the sky thread w/ nada's letter: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=65799
threads saying Nada's quote on golden mouse "This honor...this honor I present it to my dad in heaven..."

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=126640

it really perturbs me I can't find the video though.

I'm also pretty sure bisu is a christian because he has worn a cross necklace before (eg here; or just google "bisu" and it's like the second image) but not entirely sure.

same with other players but it's hard to find pictures sometimes.

I have no idea what brood war progamers are atheists/agnostics though, really hard to show that explicitly. Just can find when people have christian stuff.

Possibly a style trend, but a wooden cross equals serious apparently.

What about the Church of DongRaeGu? Surely it's got many followers! Anyways, this is an interesting thread, maybe I'll check back once in awhile.

Sea is a very devout Christian. I remember him mentioning it in an interview after his friend passed away a few years ago.

It's quite possible that faith in their case might be a personal thing, and not something that they are eager to talk about. A fair number of religious people are generally quiet, because it's not something that usually needs to be shared - it's between you and whatever deity or belief you may choose to follow.

Some are incredibly vocal of course, but then there's really not much of a need to trumpet it out to the world. I mean, if you believe something like that you believe it - unless someone else is shoving their belief down your throat, what does it matter to the rest of the world?

Personally, I believe + Show Spoiler +

Hmm, can you really conclude from wearing wrist beads that people are Buddhist? Could be more of a fashion thing than anything else.

I've seen people wear rosary beads and they are Christian, so I doubt wearing them really means anything.

If anything, I think Buddhist beads are more conclusive than following random famous pastors on Twitter =P

Depends. They were a fashion fad not too long ago, although I don't know if it was a widespread thing. Following a pastor on twitter usually though could be semi-reliable. I mean, if I had a twitter, I wouldn't follow spiritual figures that did not align in the same general fashion as my own beliefs or lack thereof.
