Things focused on: Protoss builds from Apollo's Protoss Tutorial
Completion of Focus: Not so awesome, in practice I can do the FFE but I lose to the Hard AI I think because of lack of sentry's early enough.
End of Day Placement: Silver 335
Real Life:
I haven't updated this in a while because until yesterday I hadn't played any SC2 at all. My wife's grandma has appendicitis and has been in the hospital since last Wed. So I've been trying to pick up the slack around the house and since she's been staying with her at night (most nights) I've been having trouble sleeping. I just cant' sleep unless she's hogging the bed. :/
In Game:
So last night I finally felt like playing a little and ended up playing... 7 hours I think. I played a couple games using the Staircase and realized that I wasn't having much fun with that anymore. I liked it a lot when I was Terran, mostly I think because I was using it to improve on the Filter builds from his Bronze to Masters videos. But with Protoss I was just going in and "winging it" for the most part and making nothing but zealots and stalkers lost it's appeal after 40 or so games. So while I think the Staircase is a great way to improve I'm going to be switching up my learning strategy a bit and start going for more of the "standard" approach to learning. I may adapt what I'm doing to incorporate more of the ideas from the Staircase (much as I was doing before I even knew about it) but for now I'm trying this and having fun with it.
Recap:
I had some good results and had some bad results, but I like to think I learned from all of them, so it's all good.
One game that went horrendously bad for me was a PvP where I scouted him (I'm working on scouting a LOT more and getting some good info from it though my macro does suffer a bit while doing it ) and saw that he was still on 1 base at about 6:00 so I figured he was probably massing up an army or something aggressive and told myself I wouldn't expand till I knew what was going on... Then I expanded and he killed me with a 4 gate. Lesson learned: Don't say revenge. (Kudos to anyone who gets that )
A PvT on Ohana I was playing had me scout him and see that he only had a single supply depot in his main. Thinking it must be a proxy I started searching my expos until I found his 3 proxied barracks and him making reapers. I took out all but 2 reapers when I got there before he counter attacked with them and I had to make all my probes try to mine the same mineral patch repeatedly to keep his reapers from taking out all my probes while 2 stalkers took them out. (He only killed 2 ) After I killed them and took out his proxy he quit. I am proud of this game because I never would have scouted on a 1v1 map before and that would have been a pain.
After spending probably 5 hours last night trying to learn the FFE and get it down to something decent I had only 1 PvZ tonight, and I got my ass kicked. I think the main reason was I didn't make any sentries (I forgot cause I never made them before ) so I couldn't forcefield at all.
Things I need to work on:
My builds were pretty sloppy. I had to rearrange things more than once because I'd forget to get gas at the right time or I'd build the cyber core but forget to research warpgate, etc. So really I want to focus mostly on my macro of these new builds. Using all new units and doing new things gave me a really terrible SQ for most of the night and I definitely don't want that! So Macro and build orders/strategies are my main focus for right now.
