Dark Onyx Player Profile : Gespenst Blog #12

DOxGespenst: Um, I can't remember what it was I used it for first but I found the word "Gespenst" for the first time in Fire Emblem for the GBA. It was the most powerful dark magic spell and dark magic being my favorite I found it cool. I looked it up and found out it was an old German word for "ghost." Being shy and quiet I thought that fit me pretty well so I used it as a name.

DOxReyder: wow that was pretty deep. Honestly did not know that :D

DOxReyder: Has it always been you gamer tag?

DOxGespenst: Pretty much, I used Carth for awhile but never really felt like it was me, if that makes sense. lol

DOxReyder: Makes perfect sense my friend

DOxGespenst: I've always loved RTS games, next to RPG they're my favorite. I grew up, almost literally, on brood war. I played through the campaign tons of times and was pretty much the only computer game I owned for a long time.

DOxReyder: good times good times!

DOxReyder: Were you a zerg then too?

DOxGespenst: I didn't play online, just campaign and against the AIs but yes, Zerg was my favorite.

DOxGespenst: Well... when I first went to college and my later years of High School, I was in love with Biology, still am. So the thoughts of a group of random organisms working to evolve ways to be as effective as man-made weapons and possibly even better was just amazing to me. I've also always been a huge fan of dark, creepy things and nothing says dark and creepy like tons of insect-like creatures who want nothing more than to eat you or corrupt you into becoming one of their well, pet for lack of a better word. lol

DOxReyder: Ges you by far are the most philosophical player in DOx

DOxGespenst: lol I try.

DOxReyder: That's a really cool reason to choose a race though its easy to tell that you are part of the swarm.

DOxGespenst: Yes, long live the overmind!

DOxGespenst: lol

DOxGespenst: Macro. In RTSs I tend to be the guy you don't want to be an underling for. I would rather send wave after wave of units to their death to cripple you than most any other strategy. I like to think of myself as a smarter Zap Brannigan. lol Not to say I don't like plotting counter attacks and other devious things as well.

DOxReyder: Not a bad strat for zerg at all. My main fear as a terran is always thinking that zerg has another huge army waiting

DOxReyder: Dat larva

DOxGespenst: Yeah, there is very little that is as satisfying as spawning a massive army in like 3 seconds and winning. lol

DOxReyder: -_- lol

DOxGespenst: Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.

DOxReyder: Still live there?

DOxGespenst: Yep. I haven't moved ever, actually. Well not yet anyway.

DOxReyder: Any plans to spread your wings and fly?

DOxGespenst: Yeah, my girlfriend and I have talked about getting married, but neither of us has money. She graduated in 2011 and I'm still in school.

DOxReyder: O well GRATZ buddy! If she lets you game then she's a keeper

DOxGespenst: Indeed. She gets annoyed sometimes but that's life, everyone annoys everyone else. lol

DOxReyder: very true can't always be perfect

DOxGespenst: Yes, I have one sister. She's 2 years younger than me. She's in school now as well, about to graduate.

DOxGespenst: I am 23, born in May.

DOxReyder: ok cool so in the middle of our DOx ranks

DOxGespenst: Feels weird, the only other online game I played I was the youngest by almost 10 years. lol

DOxReyder: lol well gamers come in all ages and some of the youngest are insanely good

DOxGespenst: Computer Information Systems, which is the fancy way of saying programming at my school.

DOxReyder: Very Fancy what kind of things do you want to do with your degree

DOxGespenst: Um, make money... lol I loved computer science classes in high school. I enjoyed the challenge of figuring out the problem and making a solution that could fix it. I originally was going to school to be a medical examiner and wanted to do that for the same reasons, look at the problem and figure out what happened; however, programming is much cheaper and quicker and can earn quite a bit more. I do still want to go to school for biology though, just after I have money. lol

DOxReyder: Well definitely not without ambition

DOxGespenst: Yeah, it comes in spurts though. lol

DOxReyder: lol hey can't be a nerd baller 100% of the time

DOxGespenst: lol guess not.

DOxGespenst: I had just stopped playing FFXI after just over 4 years. I quit because it wasn't as fun as it used to be but I missed the friends I made. So I started playing SC2 again, I had gotten it when it came out but hadn't played it much since then. I was laddering and chatting with people I played against. Then I got put up against Serial. We said a few words and after the match he said he liked my gameplay and that he was part of a clan. I was intrigued and since I was missing my online family, I said sure what the hell. Since I love RTS so much I've always tried to get better but just mindlessly playing over and over on ladder wasn't making me better really. Learning with you guys is though, so here I am and I'm here to stay.

DOxReyder: :D and its awesome to have you

DOxGespenst: Well thanks.

DOxGespenst: Well, when I first started I always did 15 pool, 15 gas and 16 hatch and then whatever after that because I hadn't bothered to learn anything else. After watching some games with you guys and talking to some of the masters zerg I got a confident and I do several openings now, well try to anyway. You guys have also helped me remember my larva injects and helped me to stay up on my drone production.

DOxReyder: If I must say so myself, your macro is on a completely new level now

DOxGespenst: Thanks, you've taught me well.

DOxReyder: yes young grasshopper.

DOxGespenst: I would have to say someone who will watch your games critically is huge. I watch my replays but having more than one voice in your ear telling you what you could've done better or a different way to deal with whatever problem you're having is really one of the best ways to improve anything, not just in a game.

DOxReyder: We do our best!

DOxGespenst: Don't forget to put the laughter in manslaughter!
