EPTAccording to lore, the Colossus is apparently the only unit in the Protoss arsenal that was specifically designed for combat. All the other stuff has simply been re-purposed.
Personally I wouldn't complain one bit if the Reaver came back and replaced the Colossus; not one bit. Repeated for emphasis! It would make more sense lore-wise and then people wouldn't have problems with Colossi any more.
And then I wouldn't be so distracted by my own Colossi wondering how the heck they stay up and then getting killed because I was not paying attention.
...I'd like the Dark Archon to come back. o-o But first, I want some yogurt.
