I leave in two days for my trip to Dreamhack Winter where I will be a featured caster. I am fucking ecstatic. I love casting. I love the idea of entertaining people that love what I love: Starcraft. I love the idea of working with the best eSports production team and casting alongside (in my opinion) the best all-around commentator Apollo. That said, I leave from there to go get married 7 days from that Sunday and I won't be back at the Lair until early January. An entire month of getting married, honeymoon and then Christmas.. this means very little actual SC2. I can play at my Mother's house where my brother lives but that ain't much and it will only be at the tail end of December. I have never gone that long without SC2 so it got me thinking.. and now I want to share my thoughts!

The Past

I have always been a competitor. It's what I live for. With Starcraft I have won past accomplishments. I am a former national champion, I won invitationals in New York, I took 2nd in a Pan American tourney (defeating Major but losing to Fenix in BW) and I have seen the world. In korea I got dominated by Bisu, PJ, Effort and others.. but in bet games I won over 250$ in total with 10$ games vs some of if not all of the best foreigners at that time.. it was awesome.

In SC2 my results are a helluva lot less impressive. A lot would say non-existent.. and they are pretty right. But I regret none of it! My results aren't there not because I "lost passion" or because I don't care.. absolutely the opposite. The difference is no longer am I a teenager sitting at home with everything provided for me. No longer am I a college student skimping by with an easy degree in English but once again having most things paid for by my dad / loans. I now have responsibilities, family, bills and the future to worry about. My day is broken up with numerous tasks / responsibilities that go outside of just playing SC2. In BW we traveled 3-5 times a year. I do that in a month now. In 2010-2011 while these things made sense the urge/drive to still win like I did in BW was there. When I failed to meet my own expectations this became a pressing anxiety.. one that dragged me down into depressive states or panicky places where I would never realize success. All the while I garnered more fans and more expectation.. never once did I brush off the expectation or my fans.. in fact I encouraged them to expect results (as I expected them myself). It was unrealistic and it resulted in mini-breakdowns and a near meltdown. Thankfully I am surrounded by those that love me and I have really smart people in my corner that helped me forge a comfort with my own skin and a reasonable push towards the future.

The Present

I read about a lot of people commenting on my daily life and firmly stating facts about me as if it was commonly known.. and it's disturbing at times. Everything I am told is "ignore the trolls" or "don't read forums" and "just focus on yourself" etc. To a certain extent I do that. I deleted my reddit account, I go there less and less as the negativity and rampant cynicism continues to drag down most of what I read there. I post on TL less now than ever before. I read my twitter but I have a hair trigger to block people.. and you know what? It's sad.. but it has been a good thing to do this. I say it's sad because I firmly believe I want to live in a world where people in my position are at the full disposal of the community.. but it wasn't working. You can't please everyone, you will have enemies/trolls and you WILL get hate on a daily basis. Rest assured this isn't me discounting the good parts.. they far outweigh the bad but you need to hear me right now: The hurt still happens. It's nice to think that I have nothing to complain about. My problems are miniscule and not worth reading about.. but I urge you to consider each man has his issues.. however big or small. I have not been raped but that doesn't make me immune to my own pain, ok?

My day looks like this: I wake up around 8:15am - I let my dog out, feed him and then I fix myself a bowl of cereal and a bottle of water. I read TL/Reddit/Twitter and then I do a 1 hour lesson at 9am. At 10am I go to the gym with Machine/IdrA and we workout for 1.5 hours. I shower when I get home and then I have lunch (early yes, but I don't want to breakup my stream). I then stream from roughly 12:30pm ~ 1pm to 5-6pm. After that I will eat a small snack which is usually a bowl of soup. I then leave to go cast EGMCSL which is roughly 2.5-4 hours long and in extreme cases 5 hours or as short as 2. When I get home I spend time with my girl Anna.. we usually walk the dogs/get mail, sit and talk, watch a show/movie and then go to bed. This makes up my monday-saturday.. nearly to a T. If there is a tourney I will practice at night. If there is a good GSL match (Top Protoss/EG/Foreigner) I will practice/stay up until 3-4 am. Sundays I practice throughout the day, go to church, watch the seahawks and spend more than just an hour or so with Anna.

I am not a full time progamer. I am one of the hosts/casters for EGMCSL. I am the go-to guy for media like announcement videos, sponsor commercials etc.. this happens 3-4 times a week. I captain the squad which basically means I coach em up when I can, I make sure they practice and I consult them on mental health. If people have problems I try and be there for them etc. I do trade shows like PAX, Intel conventions/tours and I work with our manager on lineups, player signings etc (but in no way am I taking credit here.. they do 99% of the heavy lifting I just offer opinions etc). I still practice because I love to AND because it's good for my hosting/casting to be on top of the game in a way no other caster can. I will compete at MLG's / online stuff because I have stubbornly held on to that semblance of competition.

Am I happy with this? Yes. Believe it or not.. I love competing but I also LOVE standing on that stage and hugging Thorzain as he wins. I LOVE entertaining people, I love public speaking.. I love being a part of a show. I LOVE making people laugh.. if I had to give all that up to sit at a desk 12 hours a day and live and die off of results I'd be a wreck. I am earning a good living for my wife (december 2nd) and I am fostering a future for myself. I am in a position where I will always be employed in gaming.. the industry I know and love and I will have a platform to broadcast to my community (You guys!).. what more could I ask for? Do I regret having never won a tourney in SC2? YES.. it kills me.. but I know winning those is a special event not made for everyone. I am not a tourney winner in SC2.. I have come to grips with that. I will still try.. and if I ever win I'ma cry like a baby.. but I find that fun

I have a bunch of console games still in their wrapper. I am a gamer but I feel uncomfortable playing them / I literally don't have the time. For 1-2 hours on a sunday I will dabble.. and I love it. Currently beating Mass Effect 3 (yeah I know). And over the break I hope to check out Dishonored/Assassin's Creed 3. I collect Warhammer 40k models (Have yet to play a game/paint them because of no time). I watch shows on netflix when I eat my meals.. but given that Sons Of Anarchy has been watched I am having a tough time getting through The Walking Dead because if I don't eat I don't really watch a show and THAT show sucks to eat to.

The Future

Wouldn't be a blog with me if I didn't do a "announcement of announcements" kinda thing. EG has big plans that you will all hear about fairly soon. Korea, USA and everything inbetween. I am proud of this company and I am happy with where it is going. We have a winning squad of players, we have amazing support staff and we have plans to grow and develop amidst the gaming world.

I will go on as I am now. I will commentate the EGMCSL, I will host EG programs/projects. I will commentate every chance I can for big tourneys like Dreamhack and I'd love to do more.. IEM? MLG? OSL? etc.. All the while I will play as close to 8~10 hours a day as I can. In part because I always want to win but also because that makes me a better host/commentator/everything SC2. I am going to continue to do my part to eat right, exercise and try and keep happy. I think that is key when you are in the community spotlight a bunch.. no need to have another negative nancy/angry as fuck person broadcasting.

I want to start a youtube channel I actually work at. I have one.. but I haven't touched it in forever. So January ish and onward I will delve into that. I want to publicize a streaming schedule that I work to keep.. put in roughly 50+ hours of streaming a month. I want to minimize brainfarts (being too abrasive with Destiny, being mean to Avilo etc). People will always have their opinions of me.. lots of em bad some of em good and everything else.. that's fine. But I can honestly say the tremendous public outcry over a few of those things is not in any way shape or form justified to the crime but the crime(s) has still been something I regret and would do differently if given the chance. The thing about me that allows me to always feel good about my future is that I KNOW I will always strive to improve. In everything. Absolutely. I may still fail.. I may progress slower than what people would want.. but I will never ever look at myself and say "ah, I can rest! I am done, perfection!" I encourage you to give me multiple chances.. have leniency and love me for my faults. But if that ain't your cup of tea I not for one second will fault you. We are fortunate in SC2 to have a LOT of people to choose to follow, adore and respect.. if I am not one of them that probably means you have several others you can lend your support and I think that is cool.

It gets said a lot but I need ya'll to know this: I love you. I love you because if you are reading this you are a TL community person. You are a linked individual on reddit. You follow me on twitter or someone sent you here from their retweet. You are a part of what makes my life spin. Without you I don't have a salary. I don't have BARRISTAN who fills my every waking moment with laughter and happiness. I don't have the justification to do what I love to do and spend every moment I can trying to earn that. Sometimes I make it seem like I forget this.. forgive me. Know that it is in my blood to appreciate you.

THANK YOU

I think it's really cool that you can be open about not having any amazing results in SC2, yet stay positive. Personally, I've always prefered you as an entertainer/caster. Your knowledge of the game is hardly lacking and you're still a great player even if you're not producing amazing results, but where you're a "mediocre" progamer, you're possibly THE best entertainer in the scene. I love to hear you casting, you do amazing in interviews, you have great chemistry with most people on the scene, and it's just awesome to hear.

I personally wouldn't care if you never compete in a big tournament again, as long as you keep playing the game on a high level and keep producing great content. I definitely look forward to your push on youtube and I'm sure you'll produce awesome content there.

I've always loved your enthusiasm and deep passion for what you do. I remember your incredible love for the game being really apparent even years ago when I barely participated on TL, it will always be a blast to have you around.

Best of luck with everything!

No, thank you, Geoff. Whether it be on one of the many Starcraft shows, hosting/commentating a major event, or simply just watching your stream, you've always made me laugh and made me love this game even more.

No matter what your plans are in the future of eSports, whether it be a full time caster, coach, player, etc... You'll always have the support of this community.

Best of luck to you Geoff, and enjoy your wedding and honeymoon

Hope December is a chill month for you Incontrol! Grats on getting married, and hope you'll live a happy life!
Remember that most haters are haters because of jealousy (or being a kid) and that the internet is full of idiots. And you shouldn't let it get to you. And I'm glad your having such a positive mindset! Hope to see you in alot of tournaments in 2013!

I can't say I'm your biggest fan, mostly because I play Zerg and so I tend to watch Zerg players. However you and WhiteRa are the 2 protoss players I do watch when I can and it's because you are one of the most entertaining players out there. I know people criticize you a lot for your lack of results, but I enjoy watching you regardless. Whether it's on state of the game, casting, or on your own stream your personality and sense of humor I find greatly entertaining. Plus you're living the dream man, you're on one of the best teams around, if not the best, making a living playing Starcraft and doing awesome things, AND you're about to get married to a beautiful and talented woman. Despite what anyone says, you're living a life most only dream about. I wish you good luck in the future and hope to see you improve and grow and entertain us for more time to come!

This person is the same guy who started to make a name of himself since many years ago by leading the USA nation, managing players, arranging nation/clan war and etc without fail in the old BroodWar WGTour days way back in 2003. He was the reason I started to pay attention to those 2nd tier Americans back in the days and these are also the same batch of people who have now became the elite NA players that you are watching today.

All it takes is a small imagination of what he has done for the community or in particular, the NA scene. I see no reasons in why people would dislike the very same person who is part of the group into making what SC2 is today.

Learn how to appreciate, peeps. Go Geoff!

I was first introduced to you doing an interview with husky outside a mall in Oregon on a windy day. Later I found this podcast called state of the game and you quickly became my favourite sc2 personality. If you didn't do the things you do that get reddit trolls up your ass 24/7 you also wouldn't have people like me as fans. So fuck reddit and keep up the good work!

Geoff you're awesome. I'll finish up that Evil Genestealer squad for ya soon because I'm behind a few players since your teams' roster has expanded. My list tells me I models for Suppy, Stephano, HuK, JYP, and Alex Garfield still. Alex will probably be a broodlord if I can manage it. You and your team are a big part of why I got involved (although minorly) with SC2. Keep being awesome.

Can't wait to see you cast at DH, Geoff and huge congrats on getting married (with Anna Prosser no less, you lucky man you)!

Been a fan since I first heard you speak. Cheered loudly for you during MLG Dallas (2011 I think it was, when you got fourth?) and love your shit still. Keep doing things, and I'll keep watching.

Great blog post, Geoff! By the way, have you ever thought of joining a local Toastmasters club/chapter? I'm part of one at my work/company (been part of it for 2.5'ish years, now), and I've thought for a VERY long time that all the casters and SC2 personalities should really consider it, because it's a great place to get feedback AND practice with different aspects of speaking and presentation. It's very evaluation based, too, so if you find a decent club you can get a lot of useful and positive feedback.

In summary, you may REALLY enjoy being part of a local Toastmasters club/chapter! I think it's something all the other casters should think about joining I even tried to spread the word to Day[9] when I met him at the end of Day 1 @ NASL (Toronto), heh heh.

Sometimes "what we're good at" and "what we want to do" just don't match up in life.

I still don't know the answer to navigating this divide, but it seems like you're well on your way to figuring out how to reconcile this disparity.

I think this is a very interesting point.

For me, the difference is that while WINNING tournaments is certainly the goal and it is absolutely the pinnacle experience I find value and happiness not solely in winning tournaments but rather the entire process.. the ups the downs the close calls etc. If I defined success only off of winning tournaments and then experienced fulfillment or happiness from that ultimate goal then yes I would be very bad at this and I would be unhappy.

I am doing "what I want to do" and I am not a tournament winner but I am good at Starcraft. Not just in playing but in hosting, commentating and finding a place for myself in a world where very few are getting paid or earning a living.

I have always enjoyed all the shows that you are a part of an try to watch them. You are the one that brings comedy to the show. I don't care what people say, you're fuckin hilarious. I would be extremely sad if you ever decided you wanted to leave the scene, it wouldn't be the same. Looking forward to the future.

I personally believe your presence in Starcraft has made the community a much better place.

For playing competitively Starcraft is still in its infancy. Two expansions later I hope that people with more talent will be able to rise faster in a more completed difficult game. I'm sure as you are that you could be a top competitor if you want it bad enough.

Best of luck Geoff!

I remember seeing you playing the sc2 beta while you were staying and sharing account with psyonicreaver Brent on his justin.tv stream. I remember seeing you trying to choose your race: protoss or zerg. I remember rooting for you at many many tournaments, seeing you beating people, then got beaten. Inside you i see a will that want to compete and that is what i utterly most respect from a player: never give up, never surrender.

Coming into 2012 I had hope but then you expressed that you will split into casting and playing under the community pressure. You simply cant give your player career one last best shot before giving up. May be going to Korea? May be moving to Europe? But then when i heard that you proposed to Ana, i understood. You have settled this adventurous life of a gamer. I guess every boat would have to find it's home one day. Disappointed? Yes but I am also happy for you. From now on, the incontrol88 of the bw day will be something else, may be better, may be worse, but never the same.

Best of luck, have fun.

Dude, i didn't know at all about any of those haters, but really, all I blame you for is letting them get to you.

You have just earned all my respect. You are contributing to the scene, to the game, and who cares if you're not winning tournaments. You are on the top 1% of players and you practice less than like 50% of them, you make a living out of gaming, you have an active life, a beautiful wife, you are liked by your community and most of all, you have a freaking dog.

...a freaking dog man.

You're awesome. Keep it up.

Keep doin' what you do, iNcontroL.

I'd love to see you continue to practice and stream, but the admission that you're not strictly a progamer is one that's good to hear and should hopefully lift some unrealistic pressure off yourself and hopefully (not that it really matters) lighten the flack you get from the community.

Hope you have a wonderful wedding, bro.

Nice written!

I dont think you deserve all the shitstorms some people throw at you, I dunno why people are being like that to some pros, jealous maybe?

Anyway, I think you are one of the best casters, especially togehter with Apollo. Its like some dynamic there like there is between Tasteless and Artosis. Its entertaining to listen and on the same time very knowledgeable (is that a word? sorry im swedish so my english aint perfect).

I remember when you casted your first DH and there was this wierd game between PuMa and Naniwa, think you were casting with Khaldor, damn you were so funny to listen to, talking about the marine who was scouting for naniwas army on cloud kingdom and making a old bitchy lady when you were talkin about queens.

You are a very entertaining and most of the time nice person. (I should say that I like the troll/flame/controverse behaviour too) I loved and still love nearly every content you are a part of. I can't deny that I too made jokes about your performence (not in public, tl etc.) but with friends watching/following sc2 and if I think about it I can't tell why. (kind of jealousy? even if I would not like to change spots with you) I too have been around here since the good old bw days as a lurker and without people like you nothing would have happened in this scene.

I really wish you all the best and success in the gamingscene however it may form and hope to see you as a caster/host more often.

So thanks.

That was a really good read, nice to see it when people just say fuck it here's me and how I'm feeling.

I've enjoyed your stream the most when you interacted with people and been talking a lot. I really like games you cast, and for the most part I like what you have to say. I've said for a long time that one of the best things that could happen to sc2 is if you did extremely well in a tournament, that's something I'd still love to see in 2013 and maybe, just maybe the time off will allow you to do something special, that you probably deserve to have.

The last thing is this, I'll never forget MLG Columbus 2011 for a million different reasons it was an amazing event. The most visible and approachable person there though, was easily you Incontrol. People sitting on reddit, twitter or tl and trolling you from behind a computer screen would never dream of doing so if they'd been to a live event and seen just how approachable you really are and the effort you put into being around to help make peoples days just a little bit better.

You do a lot of good for the community, and you've basically thrown your entire life at it. I think that's awesome.

I don't, however, like the way you put down and gang up on people on SotG, though. I don't really like Avilo or Destiny either, but how you guys treat them is bad.

Congratulations on your engagement, congratulations on EG's success, and I'm glad your life is going great. I hope you keep up your passion for BW, SC2, and esports in general.

Geoff, your incedible passion for this game and community and your repeated perserverance have been a huge source of inspiration to me since the day I sent you that first email about coaching way back in beta. To read this really gave my spirits a lift. To keep going with such motivation and to still have such a mature attitude and perspective even after being constantly bombarded with unfair criticisms shows an unbelievable amount of character and drive. The impact you've made on me not just as a member of the E-sports community but also as a friend and coach has been enormous. Even when things are rough, remember what you said here today and keep fighting the good fight.

Your extraordinary insight and understanding of the game coupled with your wit and warm personality make your casts some of the best in the business. I sincerely hope to see much more of you at greater events, since you've made BW & SC2 history and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Hope all good for you man, you are truly amazing! Please continue what you do, no matter what the haters say, the vast majority will always welcome you with open arms. Being a tournament winner is not a requirement to be a winner, because you are a winner, no matter what anyone says. You have done a ton for this community and deserve the respect of everyone here.

I wish you and Anna all the best with the marriage and future life,

I absolutely loved this blog Geoff. Im such a big fan of you and I hope you stay the way you are! Although you say you havn't won any tournaments, I would say you have won something that no one else in the SC community will ever capture. You have won the community (and my own's) heart and respect. It sounds weird to say, but I think you have won something greater than a tournament just from being the person you are. I wish you and Anna a happy life and great fortune. Thanks to YOU!

Did you know you are still my favorite player on Team EG? I tell you this at every MLG, and it's remained true. I think the main reason for this is your efforts in the community. You are a major personality in SC2, and that is for sure something to be proud of. Also you are super awesome to your fans and give nice big hugs. I love your casting because you through humor into it and make it really fun to watch.

We all grow up, but it's always refreshing to see you out there on the stage. You know why? It's because many of us are "sitting behind the desk 12 hours a day" doing the crap that we don't want to do

I live vicariously via your animated casts and personality. I've had many times to interact with you and get to know you better, even though I've never met you in person (hoping to change that in 2013).

Thanks for bringing me into the world of e-sports, hard to repay you in kind for things like that.

I'm not really a fan of you, but I have huge respect for what you do and your drive and passion behind it. I wondered after reading the first part, if this is going to be your announcement to retire. But I'm very glad, that you'll keep doing what you did. You don't need to be a SC2 champion, I think what you actually achieved is even bigger than a championship.

I wish you would play the other races more, it would improve your casting, which already has a phenomenal entertainment-factor on the level of TotalBiscuit, Husky and Day[9], with depth in TvT, TvZ and ZvZ.

And don´t let the haters get you. Remember - you have not made it until you have an anti-club.

You certainly receive a lot of baseless and unwarranted criticism in this community, and it's good to see that you are neither numb to it nor incapable of dealing with it. Personally I have enjoyed your character and your work as a commentator for quite some time, and it seems to me that the more comfortable you are in your own skin, and the less worried you are about how every little joke or comment might be interpreted by the community, the more engaging, witty, and fun you become.

You are already one of the better casters and hosts out there, and if you continue to analyze yourself and your progress carefully I expect you will become a coveted entertainer and analyst in the coming months and years.

Best of luck to you.

Hey man you're a celebrity and because of that, people take all the little things about you way too seriously and then they are hypocritical and do the things they criticize you for. Isn't it funny how they are such a necessary evil in your line of work?

It's always great to see a person be exactly who they are because that's what they're happy with, not because they think that's what others want them to be like. As a fellow be-your-own-man type of person, I would like to thank you for holding strong regardless of all the negativity. You've got a bright future that's brewing as we speak and people will love you through and through and if after this post they don't love you, I can guarantee that many of them will respect you at the least. Keep fighting the good fight! Wish I could meet you at IPL in Vegas but alas you'll be getting married . I'll catch you at another time!

Man, good thing TL featured this blog. Always been a favourite player (and caster!) of mine, not only 'cuz of your gameplay, but mostly because of your personality...because SC wouldn't be SC without our semi-troll iNcontrol ^^

As long as you keep doing something you like, you have no reason to get down, you're one of the most well-known SC figures out there, there's definitely a reason.

Great blog man, hope you and Anna have a great honeymoon, just unplug out of SC and have a great time!!

And that's why pros and high level people never post on forums and reddit and so on.

Just a bunch of jackasses out there that give them shit, or low level players that argue with them about strategy or talk about how much one pro or another 'sucks'.

They just say 'okay, that's fine, bye'.

Your awesome Geoff. Whenever you and other pros and community figures take the time to post, when you probably shouldn't because of above said reasons, there's many of us that appreciate it.

Sounds like you are being very thoughtful and grown-up about your plans. As a fellow grown-up (I'm 45 with 4 kids: 2 teens, 2 littler ones, all gamers of various types), let me throw you my 2 cents and hope it doesn't get lost among the trolls here.

Just IMO, but I think you can go ahead and let go of the competitive playing dream. I think you know this. It is simply a matter of playing to your strengths. You aren't a top player currently and you clearly don't have the time or ability to shove everything else aside to try to change that. However, you are clearly a top personality, presenter and caster. You can do a lot more for esports by being the best you can be in those areas.

You have advantages that put you in among the other top personalities. You are articulate, you know the games, and you have the potential to do even better at outreach because you don't look like or come across as a typical gamer. Neither does Anna, as I'm sure you are both highly aware. You guys can not only host/commentate, but you can grow the scene because you can get in front of audiences who don't yet know esports and find new fans. There are really only a few other people who can do this and we need more of you.

But this is also a craft that you have to study and work to perfect. Most current casters seem to take the approach that they can just walk in and start describing the game based on their knowledge of it. That's working ok for the current scene based on hardcore fans. It's going to have to be a little different to grow the scene. We need casters who can reach the LoL/Dota2 players, the console players, and eventually the sports fans.

This is going to take work. Study great sportscasters. Talk to players of other games or watch SC2 casting with them and see what they understand and what's missing. Watch your favorite sports and see how they talk about the game. Watch some esports and traditional sports you don't know very well and see what is clear and what isn't. This is going to take time.

If you were taking my advice, I'd say cut your practice back to 3-4 hours/day tops. Spend the other 4 hours developing your other craft. You can do a lot of good there.

You're going to need a thicker skin too, though. As a caster/host, remember that if they are hating on you, they are still watching you. The problem is if nobody is paying attention. Have a plan, stick to it and don't feed the trolls.

There are other roles in esports that people are going to need to fill too. We will eventually need some people looking out for the players generally (a players association, maybe even a union) to guarantee fair treatment. Top teams may need to share some ideas about marketing outreach eventually as well -- building a bigger pie is better long-term than fighting for a bigger piece of a small one. I don't know if those are roles for you. I obviously don't know you, but I can see you more doing a pro-gaming spiel at Intel, PAX, or in front of other large industry/popular audiences. That kind of gig both pays well and does good for everybody else in esports.

Just remember, that as you change what you do, it's still a craft to be studied, improved and perfected. There are mechanics and strategies to hosting, casting and public speaking, too.

P.S. We met and chatted very briefly at MLG Columbus earlier this year. Because I was hanging around the player pit (my son played), I could see you and the EG guys. You weren't beating anybody at the game, but you were obviously very engaged with taking care of your team. You were one of the guys the players clustered around naturally (curiously, MC was another, at least for the Koreans). You don't have to be the best player in the world to bring value to your team and the scene.

Good to read you are doing well in life. You have always been an asset to the community and you do not deserve all the hate.

But I do have one question:
Isn't it easier for you to just play ladder - with friends and don't aim to play in tournaments where you will get destroyed? That should definately reduce some of the stress you give yourself by willing to keep competing at a high level...

I haven't seen you in a tournament for some while, so maybe you agreed to this already
Just enjoy!

"ignore the trolls" or "don't read forums" and "just focus on yourself" etc are good adivses becuse haters dont hate becuse its somthing wrong whit you and you need to change yourself. Thy hate becuse of other more general ressons that are not becuse of ur personality. Rasism its not the only time ppl just hate someon fore no personal reason.

Just a great post, i have to admire you for your honesty and passion for the game.
And now i really understand you and why you don´t show good results in a tournament, it´s so great to have someone being so open and reflective in the community.

I am asking myself what Destiny would write in a blog like this and how he sees his career in the future, and how he wants to be good at SC2 when he spends THAT much time on palying LOL.

Don't know if that was an intended burn but it made me laugh regardless.

I'm not a very big fan of yours. I really hate your false sense of entitlement and how you treat other people in the scene. Destiny (and most of the blind haters) for the most part is an idiot, but take the high road for once. It was also pathetic how jealous you were of Day9 when he first blew up. I've noticed your cynicism fade in that area because you're now the same "sell-out" he was. It's part of the gig and the sooner you accept it the sooner you can start losing enemies you've made. I'd never fault someone for doing what they love and I don't have a problem with destiny being abrasive and beligerent because he's his own brand and isn't standing in anyone's way. There are 100 other eligible people who could be E fucking G's SC2 rep. I hope you realize that before its too late.

Are you allowed to have a personal youtube channel? I know Demon and Justin Wong tried to start one but they weren't allowed due to their EG contract, as I assume EG wants all views directed to their team youtube channel. Maybe SC 2 players have an exception, but I can't think of any EG member with their own youtube, unless I missed one.

Geoff, as a fellow gym minded individual with a penchant for screamo/alt, I've enjoyed following you since Sc2 started. Results notwithstanding (as long as you keep practicing, I'll keep hoping ya win), I think you serve as a great example to those interested in e-sports in terms of how to market ones' self and how to capitalize on content production/fan base building. I hope your wedding goes off without a hitch, and have fun at dreamhack!

Yo Geoff, I might not always like what you say, but you are a great guy and I wish you all the best.

Also: don't want to start a discussion, but to say you failed as a SC2 progammer is a bit much. I remember your MLG 4th place ^^

If you'd practice 8-10 hours a day you could have be top 5 NA, but now you have 70 games for 19 days so about 4 games per day on the ladder.... 10 hours....im pretty sure Kas plays about 10 hours a day and he is usually top 5 EU, sorry but I dont believe what you say.
P.S Not a hater, not a fan but thing you say on and how you behave on sotg im closer to first one but not it.

When balancing expectations and desires, I have found this exercise to be helpful: first think about what you desire and expect of yourself. Then consider what other people desire and expect of you. Then what an reasonable and disinterested, but sympathetic, neutral observer would think are reasonable desires and expectations. It can be very useful in sorting out what strings are tugging you from which directions, and in reconciling the conflicts between them.

I have always enjoyed your personality most when it has seemed like you have been genuinely enjoying yourself not concerning yourself too much with other people. Just keep doing what you love and people will keep asking for more.

Thanks for writing this man, I'll still be one of your biggest fans, whether you choose to pursue casting or to continue as a pro gamer. I still remember the days when you placed really well at mlg, or when you went 4-0 out the gate at the first NASL while ALSO casting it. A lot of the newer fans in the scene never got to see those moments, and I feel like if they did they would be as big a fan as I am of you. It's the same deal with Jinro. My friends that are newer to the scene never saw the great white foreigner hope, as he beat MC with MECH. They discredit his wins, but the feeling I got when watching Jinro go on that run has not been replicated within the scene since.

Thanks again man. You'll always have my support :D

Incontrol, no one has a problem with you, they have a problem with what you represent. You yourself are a very likable guy, you make mistakes sure, but everybody does! And the community, by and large, forgives you for those mistakes. But I will say this: Incontrol, as a person, is nearly universally loved.

Incontrol, as a symbol, is nearly universally disliked or even hated. Foreigners are sick and tired of seeing their heroes constantly get destroyed by Koreans in tournaments, and they need someone to blame. Who better than someone who makes a lot of money, represents the community, and constantly gets destroyed in tournaments? The storyline goes like this: foreigners practice less, focus on personality more, lose to Koreans. Incontrol fits that storyline to a T. Moreover, people feel like because Incontrol and others are financially successful without being successful in tournaments, that foreigners have no incentive to do well in tournaments or practice hard.

In short, people feel like there is something fundamentally wrong with non-Korean SC2, and the fact that one of the highest paid players has no tournament success is the biggest indicator of that fundamental wrongness. The fact that that player happens to be one of the most likable guys in esports contributes to the community's "bipolar" view of Incontrol.

You are one of the people that make any event better by being part of it. I can't say that about that many.

Know that for every hotheaded poster complaining about anything about you, there are about 5 people loving what you do, but not posting about it.

Good luck with everything.

That did it for me Inc. I've always been a huge fan, but the recent (not really that recent anymore but) missteps of yours I felt like you defended yourself too much, you appeared a bit arrogant in some cases. Seeing you here admitting to not dealing with the instances very well, is very much so appreciated.

The people who hate on Incontrol wouldn't say it to his face because they know they would find themselves in a headlock in no time. That and hes a gentle giant, a well spoken and thoughtful individual. I admire his passion and dedication to SC2 and how cool is it that his girlfriend and wife is a former pageant winner. I think it's safe to say that people who hate on Inc are jealous of the kind of life he's living.

"Sundays I practice throughout the day, go to church, watch the seahawks and spend more than just an hour or so with Anna."

Wtf. I was certain you was a normal liberal. Mind blown.

Anyway, Idra seems to have hit a wall regarding his work out. Hasn't really gained any muscles over the last year. Does he work out every day or just 2-3 times/Week?

What about his nutrition?

You're welcome Geoff & thank you. I've never really liked/disliked you in the past, but your passion is inspiring.
That passion makes me wanna root for you, and so I am, good luck wherever you end up in life.

And congratulations on the incoming wedding!

Incontrol I don't post here at all, I am more lurker than poster but I must say since the first time I saw you SoTG I always thought you were a good-hearted honest person. No one should fault you for speaking your mind, something that comes so naturally to you I think you do it almost without thinking. I have not doubted you, I know your commitment to the community, to the game and to your fans is genuine. I hope you to one day be the John Madden(I don't know sports so forgive any mis-allusions I just mean to imply you can be a symbol of the industry) of Starcraft or whatever game e-sports takes you to. I know that if you did win a major championship I would not be only one to be over-joyed. I have seen a lot of the work you put in, casting, streaming, and etc. and the amount of passion that I see you putting in definitely warrants at the very least warrants the respect of the community.
You are a good player, commentator, entertainer, and person. Don't let others tell you different.

Geoff you are one of the few people I respect in the sc2 community, the passion you have for basically everything you do is inspiring. There are very few people within the esports scene like you and its a shame because you are one of the only reasons I play, watch, and support everything to do with sc2, all i can say is keep up the amazing work, cant wait for dreamhack <3.

Also one bit of advise for dealing with negative comments / trolls is unless you personally value their opinions (family, friends or w/e) then just think to yourself why am I even considering giving this a response or taking this to heart, the comments of people over the internet will almost always have some negative, misguided or outright biased meaning behind it and it is actually pointless letting idiotic comments like that have an impact on your state of mind.

Keep doing what your doing, its why we all love you so much GL at dreamhack and hope everything goes perfect for you and Anna in December, best of luck <3.

I'll be honest Geoff, for some reason or the other, I didn't like you. Maybe it was your slightly annoying personality or the fact that you had little results, but the more I read and watch about you, I really regret having that mindset when judging you. You are quite the hilarious, respectful, intelligent and hardworking person in the SC2 community, and for that, I have a great deal of respect for you. Keep up the great work Geoff.

Ever since I saw you cast in NASL I thought you should be a caster instead of a player. Not saying you are bad, as you are up on me in ladder, but I think if you compare your casting to your playing you are a better caster. Good to hear you are going to pursue this more.

Wow this moved me way more than I thought it would. Thanks for everything you do, Incontrol. People like you make me proud to be a part of this community. I might not ever rise to be a pro gamer or a community figure, but I hope to still one day get the oportunity to shake your hand and say thank you in person, cause at times you get more shit than you ever deserve. It's only human to fuck up and we all do, not everyone owns up to it when they do, you're a person who can and does. I'm glad we have a spokes person like you.

You're amazing -- mad respect & love to you for everything you do in SC2, eSports, and your life. It's such a stupid bummer that there's so much negativity in this world of eSports, and that so many people flock to it. You have almost always brought positivity to it, with very few exceptions.

Here's to many more years of eSports amazingness for you and your future wife! Congrats!

During the hurricane all I had was ipod power, so I had a choice to listen to recent more relevant SOTG episodes, or past old ones. After listening to the more recent ones; without Geoff, I quickly got bored after 1 playthrough. I revisited some old episodes and I was pleased to find myself laughing a lot during them. The personality that Geoff brings with him is very entertaining and funny, he is an asset to this community not a hindrance (though reddit naysayers will disagree).

It's funny reading the sensationalism over something like this. We are both christian.. we aren't literal interpreters and we believe in the evolution process.

We keep that part of our lives very private because, well, the community at large doesn't seem to be very accepting of people with "different" beliefs.

I was raised catholic and had a wonderful young life and I continue to have a nice life now too.

IdrA is strongly athiest and one of my best friends. I wish more people were respectful/accepting of that kind of stuff.

I don't preach nor do I use my faith as some kind of shield nor do I think it makes me better than anyone.

For all it's flaws the Catholic Church does have one huge thing going for it in that it accepts scientific reality and even encourages scientific progress in many ways. That's a kind of religion I can co-exist with.

I dare say if you were a fire and brimstone baptist who thought Obama was the anti-Christ and dinosaur bones were faked by scientists to lead the world to Satan, even Greg would take big issues with that.

It's reassuring that you've found something other than the pure competition of starcraft to drive you and your passion. It's good to see you also spending time with your dog and your significant other. I hope you do the best in the future and you do achieve all the goals you've placed for yourself.

Hopefully for every hater that you have you inspire another up and coming hopeful pro-gamer/ personality. If you don't at least know that you've inspired me!

I was dreading to click this and read because I thought it would be an announcement of the end of iNcontroL. I'm happy this wasn't the case.

I can't begin to imagine how stressful this is for you. Travelling as much as you do, keeping track of the game which you also play while maintaining a team while getting married. I'm incredibly impressed and reading this really made me become even more of a fan. You're one incredible guy, and you and Anna are amazing together.

I'm superafraid of flying and hateful of travelling, but I want to make it down to Stockholm to meet you. This game needs more people like you Geoffy. Dont ever give in to the haters and leave us! And I loved this blog. Please do more, let us know the person not just the player/captain/host/commentator =)
Dont worry, be happy!

Wow, this was a very nice read, I really like watching your stream whenever I get a chance to Incontrol, I particularly found pretty sweet the way you used to build like a gazillion dark templars on entombed valley to keep sniping zerg bases ^_^ (not sure if you are still doing it as I haven't been able to watch streams other than a few tournaments lately T_T).

I wish you good luck with everything and hope that you keep being the awesome guy you are for the StarCraft community~

Not trying to be sensationalist man, just curious as I saw a couple other people had the same question. 16y/o from a super conservative-christian family here and never heard of a christian that accepts the evolution process. Learn something new everyday.

In the most respectful way possible I think you would benefit from getting out more. The majority of people from every religion are more or less centrists and a majority of American Christians believe in the theories of evolution and gravity. They also don't believe in the 6000 year old earth.

I'm actually shocked that there are still people who equate church going with scientific denialism.

Sorry, dude. There's something about listening to family and friends ramble on and on literally every time they see each other about how stupid evolution is because there's still monkeys, How contreception of any kind is bad ect.ect. and then being forced to go to a church that yells the exact same thing that just makes a kid just hate everything about it. Christians not believing in gravity? I have never once in my life heard of anyone refuting the theory of gravity. Also, I would most definitely not say that the majority of American Christians believe in evolution. That makes no sense at all because they believe that God created the earth.

Do you have a source for any of these claims???

I have never understood the hate that Geoff gets. I just don't get it. I always like watching your stream, when it's on, and your commentary. Even though your tournament results aren't the greatest we all know why...

Keep up the good work and good luck!

I have a friend, 30+ years old who is a Chemical Engineer... she doesn't "Believe" in evolution because she has never seen a monkey turn into a human... true story

"believe in the theories of evolution and gravity" LOL, evolution is JUST a theory, right? can't believe how many people have told me so, and then get mad when I remind them of gravity being just a theory too

I dislike close-minded people, some of them are heavily influenced religious people, some of them are 'gnostic' atheists

And to keep on topic, nice post Geoff, I really hope you enjoy the next few months to come, thanks for the post =D

It may seem incongruous to you, but it is possible to believe both that earth was created by a god and that evolution is real. Many Christians believe that the world was created by god, but that it has changed over time.

Here's the latest major poll I could find on the subject.

Nice read. You may not be moving the Earth with your gameplay, but you move it in other ways. You have a great personality, and you are a good front man. I am glad EG has you on the team, and I am glad you are happy with what you are doing. Everyone should be happy with what they are doing. While I am kinda sad that you aren't showing great tournament results anymore because I honestly want a victory speech with you holding up a trophy, instead of a awkward korean smile lol.

I always hate over enthusiasm, than again you are a good caster/host in many ways, kinda like Artosis is... and hes the only caster I listen to nowadays. So GL casting in the future, we really need a second caster that knows how to play the game, in practice not only in his mind. ( guess Tasteless is that as well, and maybe Day, but those 2 are often play-by-play kinda guy )
A good strategy means leaving your opponent room to make mistakes

I like you and your casting.

But mate you are fucking kidding urself with "I am not a full time progamer".
Walking dogs, showering, eating, browsing the web, hanging with the missus, watching gsl, going to the gym is shit that working people can't even fit into a single day after work. Most people spend their entire lives at work and dream of coming home to do that stuff.

U have a ton of time, play more b4 ur wrists start to fuck up like mine.

You're the reason I discovered TL back when replays were introduced and became a good way of studying professional play. I was searching for replays of pro-games and stumbled upon the TL replay section. Nobody, and I mean nobody posted more replays than you and I always appreciated that because I could rely on the fact that every day there would be a great new set of replays supplied by you. Ultimately it has led to a 10 year love affair with the TL community. Even though I don't post much I have always benefited from the community and TL has basically become my home on the web. I have you to thank for that and I'll bet so do many other people.

Thanks for always being and continuing to be a top contributor and advocate for our community and I wish you the best in your life and your marriage. GL HF!

Well I suppose you may not read this but I think you are a great caster and personality, yes it's too bad you haven't had spectacular results in SC2 but really who has, a whole lot of Koreans and a handful of foreigners its a tough game and success or failure can be decided by the smallest of margins.

I can't imagine how hard it is to have to read all the hateful things people say, as with most, I care about what others think about me, sure lots of people will say they don't care but they do, it's human nature. So to have to read peoples small minded, petty and childish comments would be unbearable for me, I would probably just stick my head in the sand. Props for keeping yours up and staying in the spotlight despite the trolls.

Know this, however, for every person posting some trollish comment there are hundreds of people who are fans and support you, and the more haters you have the more successful you are, and vice versa.

Stay strong keep doing what you do and thank you for all the entertainment.

You da man!

PS grats on getting married all the other shit isn't really important when it comes down to it, being with people who make you happy is what really matters.

You are fantastic inControl. Definitely one of my favorite casters nowadays in a market over-saturated with either the monotonous or uninformed. You provide a high level commentary mixed with humor that never fails to make me laugh. I hope you continue what you are doing and don't let the trolls and assclowns get you down.

Thank you for your post and I look forward to watching your career in the future ^^

Glad to hear you're still going strong! Keep up the good work. Your casting, your streaming, and your tournament presence all add up to a critical piece of EG and of our whole community.

Ignore those that envy your success so much they try to tear it down. Ignore those who define 'progamer' or 'success' as some pure function of current tournament results. Keep playing, keep casting, keep fighting.

I think the comments in here have said it all. But this was a great read. I haven't always agreed with your positions with some topic's/players (like you mentioned with Destiny etc.) but I've always respected you as a prominent member of the community.

You do a lot of good, and the community will be lucky to have you in the years to come. Thanks for all you do man, keep fighting. Good luck on your wedding!

I hope your time off and wedding go great dude :D If you ever win a tourney I am sure your fans will go crazy but I think your fans are fans of you because you are hard working, genuine, and funny, not necessarily because you play SC2. Most of us just got introduced to you here

Hey, man. You've always been my favorite. I remember the first time I saw a video of you. It was you interviewing Artosis in Korea. I think Artosis was going around getting interviews and you just took the mic and started interviewing him. You then proceeded to ask a bunch of smart-ass questions. I didn't know you then, so I was like, "Wow! that guy is such a dick!" I laugh whenever I think of that. Since then you've slowly become my favorite person in this scene. I think you are one of a handful of true, stand-up guys in our community -- someone the scene can be built around.

Keep up the good work, and grats on your upcoming wedding.

I have to say, I've gained a lot of respect for you recently InControl. As I stated on one of your past blogs, I'm rather analytical and not much of a fan of the 2GD show jokes etc, but I've seen both sides of your coin, and I love how you can adapt to different types of casting while keeping your personality fully intact. Really looking forward to you casting w/Apollo, keep up the good work and have a great wedding

InControl with Apollo? That's a double team of the highest order. Hilarity (and spot on commentary) coming from the casters corner.

geoff, I was first introduced to you in the first TSL, having read a post about it on the pure pwnage website I was like "oh wow people still play broodwar" not realizing the game has been going strong for a long time.

I really loved the "do it yourself" aspect of esports at the time. The competitive scene was small (in comparison to esports now)
and everything about it was so damn punk rock. I watched every vod 3 or 4 times... loved it so much. Its where I got my first heroes from... Idra, whitera, nony, and yourself included. It was the first introduction i had to tastosis, chill, and teamliquid.

A lot has changed since then. starcraft has exploded with sc2, the competitions are incredibe... yet the passion has stayed consistantly great... especially yours. Your passion has been a driving force behind this amazing thing we have now. And i just want to say thanks for that.

I know you might feel like saying you are beating a dead horse saying that you still have a lot of passion and are a competitor. But just know, it doesn't fall on deaf ears. When i hear you say things like that. i just think in my head "Well of course!"

Any "haters" you get are merely people who don't understand. They don't understand your dedication, passion etc and moreover, don't understand where we have come from as a community and who the major players were. As far as I am concerned, you are the boxer of the foreign community. Your contributions are endless, and it wouldnt be the same without you. You might not have the best results right now, but you are still a boss and a GREAT player and competitor.

In such a large community, the loudest idiots are the ones that get heard the most. Im sure you notice this, I mean destiny made a career out of staying relevant without needing to play at a high level. same goes with avilo, combatex, etc. The reddit trolls are just piggy backing this awful behavior.

Anyhow, I know you have a lot of fans that tell you great things. But there are a lot of silent people who cheer for you just the same. I know you will continue to kick ass and take names, and ill be at my screen with a cold beer in hand cheering you on the entire time.

Up until this point I was a big critic of your persona mainly because of the results factor. However your realistic approach (talking about SC2 results and the future) is something I didn't know you had and I'm glad a gamer has things figured out for his future in the industry. I'm probably not the first, but still - let me admit I was wrong about you.

Best of luck with everything and who knows, maybe you'll be lucky enough to win a tournament.

sorry but it's a lame excuse to blame your lack of progaming success on having to deal with "stuff". you aren't good and you prolly won't be so just accept it no?
As you said, youi still play 8-10 hours a day, plenty to still be a top-notch NA player.

THANK YOU

Can I get an AMEN!?

I haven't read all of your blog yet, but this part struck a chord with me. I'm 25 years old and I don't have the time to devote to competitive gaming like I did 10 years ago. Back when I was in high school I played fighting games competitively. The highest I ever gotten in a statewide tournament unfortunately was 4th place. I had so much passion for the game. I practiced every school night for hours and hours. Perfecting my combos, learning how to properly zone (similar to a fighter keeping punching distance), and etc. I spent many Jacksons ($20) in the local arcade playing against other people. I analyzed tournament videos, whether national (USA), or global (Japan etc.). I ate and sleep fighting games. Hell I skipped my senior prom to attend Final Round (Regional championship tournament in Atlanta) back in 2005. I never regretted it. Possibly one of the best days of my life.

Basically what I'm getting at, I feel like your post definitely describes what a lot of other competitive gamers go through in their lives. Now I'm at a stage where I have a full time job, married, I have a daughter on the way (March), and attending more schooling. Obviously I have to cut something... and it so happened to be my competitive gaming. It really did hurt to cut my hours on gaming, but that's life. Family > gaming IMO.

So in conclusion: I want to say thank you Incontrol for your hilarious commentary, free coaching on your stream, and have a wonderful marriage ceremony + vacation break from SC2.

I think I froze my opinion of you while I lurked in 2007/8 as that hilarious poster on TL. In seeing your rise to the forefront of SC2, it was refreshing to see you maintain your personality and wit, in spite of the inevitable bouts of drama. You're one of the cornerstones of this scene now, and don't ever think otherwise. Do whatever it takes for you to enjoy that.

You've taken time to respond to pm's that I've sent and have been a more sensitive and human than almost anyone else in the scene. I come to play and watch the games, I stay because people like you, Tasteless, and Artosis show that you can be a nerd, but not have to be an ass hat dickwad. You can be a nerd, but a responsible and sensible human being with social grace.

Gg Gj Wp. You offer the community something even more rare than a champion. You're a nerd who can bench press the terminator, look completely warm and welcoming while you do it, and have a super hot wife (congrats on dec 2nd!).

Honestly. The fact that you will the need to display details like what you actully eat and etc. tells me, that you dont have the stamina to be a celebrity. If your smart, you will stop being a public person before you crack. Not everyone is meant to be in the spotligt, we have seen people getting crushed by it time and time and again, so yeah, realise who and what you are, and step out of the spotlight.

Loved the blog. Although I've wanted to say this after the destiny issue but thought it wasn't the right time. I'm saying this not for destiny/avilo, nor for your public image, but rather for your own self and I hope you take it as constructive criticism. I think as far as "brainfarts" go, I think there is a high chance that you will have another one. Not because you are an asshole but rather because you are in the public eye so much and the way your personality is (not meant in a negative way).

One thing I would like to see different is the way you react to said "brainfarts". Generally the reaction is to go on forums and respond to people justifying your actions. I'm not a destiny fanboy, nor am I an avilo fanboy but what you did was wrong. At the same time, it doesn't justify their actions too, because they were also wrong. I would love to see you be the bigger man in situations like this when you do make mistakes, and simply making 1 post admitting it, apologizing and then moving on with your life. Even if the other person makes 99 mistakes and you make one. I personally think taking that direction is much more mature and I hope all the best for you.

Watched many many hours of Geoff streaming, but strangely very little of his casting. So I'll just make an observation that I made with MrBitter. Bitter was great as a streamer, but I don't think he's great as a caster. Because as a caster, he has to feign excitement and his voice goes up a half octave and it just doesn't play to his strength. Bitter's a cool guy when he's laid back and being real. Same thing with Geoff. So speaking from ignorance here, I hope Geoff's stream personality translates appropriately to his casting gigs.

i guess once your married you'll be even happier. you can care less 'bout how people say you've lost your passion years ago (my german teacher told my mum i've lost mine back in 5th grade...). haters gonna hate, fulltime job.

i think you're blessed with a solid team, a beautiful (and hopefully lovely) girl. so congratulations to both of you!
that will be your (by far) best result in sc2!

First of all Incontrol I'd like to tell you that I love your casting.
I also like you as a person and I'm sure there are thousands if not hundredthousands that feel the same.

You are a real contribution to the caster scene.

A lot from the haters come from Destinys group of pessimists. These guys like to think in a negative manner and are probably frustrated because they get beaten on the ladder and don't get the, what I call it, COD feeling.

I really don't think it was a brainfart to give a high five to Idra in that so much spoken about show.

It was just you being happy that Idra made obvisous how negative and ridiculouse Destinys postion is.

You shouldn't focus on these negative guys that write so much.
You odd to focus on every face that smiles because of you.
You should focus on making your fellow humans happy.
You are in such a great position to make people happy cause you are in the media.
Focus on that!!!

Don't let bring you down from few haters if you can make a plethora of people happy!

You really rock!

P.s:
Thanks to Idra for making obvisuos how destructive and silly Destinys position is!

Thanks to you Incontrol for speaking so open about your thougts, there is a lot to it.

Honestly Incontrol. Please do ignore the trolls. Man I can't read a forum thread or a commented article without facepalming and cursing humanity for having produced such ignorant whiney people. Internet is pure shit nowadays, I remember when it was in its young age where most people were interested to meet each other, they spoke with respect to each other instead of just blurting out hate and nonsense casually and call it being funny.. sigh man. I am not an internet celebrity... far from. But it even gets to me dude..

Take that for what it is. Internet is mostly a stupid place nowadays.. plagued by smacktalking ignorants who will hate on anything there is a chance for. Today I read a comment on a Wii console that was whining that the Wii gets too dirty too easily? Like wtf? seriously? I dont like the new Wii but these comments and whine like this is fucking mental!

Okay over and out. I always enjoy listening to you. Keep doing what you doing! Lovely wife you got there man!

Best of luck!

People have to realize that sc2 is about winning. Even at the pro level. Sure the best pros are winning top tournaments but I think that sc2 is about self-improvement. Pushing yourself to always do better. Always learn.

I really, really dont understand why you get so much hate on tournament chats and stuff like that, to me you're one of the smartest and entertaining people I've seen in eSport, simply a cool guy that deserves no hate whatsoever as you're trying your best and it seems obvious to me, I kinda hope you would transition to commentating because I think we need people like you to promote esport. I really think you're part of the few that can advertise this game to sponsors, and a larger audience, it really shows in various interviews, just keep doing your things man, forget about the idiots that spends their time bashing you for no reason, I guess they just need to get the frustration out.

Best of luck, and please keep casting :D

Well written! I think you are very good at what you do! That said, I am amazed to hear that you go to church every Sunday? Such waste of time man, it will/can seriously mess up all the good that are you!

I lost every respect for this man in the the show: State of the game,
He came out like an arrogant prick and I can not support that kind of behavior.
I am not a Destiny-fanboy and he may even wrong in his statements, but whatever the case, you don't act like that towards other persons and the lack of consideration and respect for us casual gamers was appalling. His income is no excuse to condescend us like that or gives his points any more weight or status. That's just my 5 cents.

I am not going to hate on him on twitter or his stream. I am just done following him. End of story.
I hope more people would do like me instead of becoming the worst part of any online community. Incontrol needs to be humbled a bit and we the people have the power to teach him a lesson here.

Congratulations, and a very well written blog post. As much as I envy what you get to do for a living, I'm glad you are the guy that gets to do it!

As you get older, you learn to ignore the hate and focus on the positive I've learned... I also learned that being 27, SC2 is no longer an environment an old guy like me has a chance of competing in due to the time required... We lived our glory in the beta, and that's good enough.

I also have a wedding coming up, and I get to watch Starcraft as I work everyday (not glamorous, I draw pictures.) so I guess I'm living my dream too.

(I apparently can't retrieve my account information, has it been so long since I've logged into TL?)

Blogging about yourself? Yeah ok..

I think this has to be the dumbest post I've ever read on TL. And that says something when you see a lot of LR threads

OT: Love your persona Geoff, the wit, passion and insight together makes for an excellent combination. Keep doing what you do best: stay involved, the community is better for it.

Glad to hear you are doing well. You are an entertaining caster that is very enjoyable to listen to (maybe a lil' bit protoss biased?). Best wishes for the future.

BTW: Nice to see the friendly comments towards destiny and avilo. Can't hold a grudge against you after that.

Love seeing the responses to this blog, really goes to show that a few trolls can alter how a player/personality thinks the overall community perceives them.

Overall this guy is a huge net positive for the SC2 community and many of us appreciate it. Great read, sounds like you stay plenty busy.
