About the blatant racism in the SCII scene. I've recently seen people claiming that now that MLG Dallas has only Koreans left, it has "weeded out the weak" and that now there are only "true Starcraft fans" left. WHAT THE HELL? WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?? I am utterly shocked.
We all play the same game. Who cares where we come from? Yes there are cultural clashes occasionally but when it comes down to it we are one community. We are the Starcraft community. There is no such thing as a "true" Starcraft fan or a "true" Starcraft player. Don't give me that crap. We all have our favorite players that we root for, but in the end we all love Starcraft. That is what unites us.
Seriously guys, I am disappointed to see this. I thought the Starcraft community was better than that. I thought we were above that kind of petty racism.
Whatever anyone thinks, I was still appalled to see the few people who stopped watching because Naniwa dropped out referred to as "nazis". I thought the community was above that kind of thing. I guess not. Learn something new every day.

um, what exactly happened?

This makes 0 sense. I'm sorry, but this entire post takes just about all of those comments out of context.

It's not racism, the community isn't saying they don't like Koreans or think they're awful people or anything of that sort. The Starcraft scene has just always been dominated by Korea, so anytime a foreigner can win or take something off the best Korean players, people get really excited. "Foreigner Hope" and all that. And on the other side, there are people who believe this is wrong and you should always support the players you support for more pure reasons than because of who they're playing against or where they're from.
That being said I have absolutely no idea what comments you're referring to..

lol choose something better to get mad about next time, this is just stupid

You misunderstand. The "true" fans in this scenario are not the fans of the Koreans but the fans of the game itself. They don't care about who is winning or if their favorite players are there; they want to see the best games possible.
The "weak" are those who only watch foreigners and dislike Korean plays because they supposedly have no personality.
Next time try to think critically before you post.

"Weeded out the weak" sounds like it could be applied to the final stages of any competitive event. It is self evidently true.
As for the "true Starcraft fans" bit, isn't that a reaction against favoritism which may in some instances include racism? A lot of fans tend to favor X players at the expense of supporting Y players. Zero sum and all that. They lose interest once their favorites are knocked out despite the increase in quality of play that comes with the final stages. They are more interested in their favorite player than the game itself. Conversely people who like to watch the final stage regardless the players who comprise it are more interested in the game itself. The latter are true Starcraft fans in the sense that they are fans of the game and not elements of the competitive meta like specific players.
The only racism that might be present here is being projected.
It is nice to see all those savage whities knocked out finally though, that last swede scum really hung on there like a cockroach insolently resisting the first few applications of insecticide. Just real people, and the one deity, left. All hail the Korean overlords. (and supply depots and pylons)

Maybe if you give it a lot of attention and make it a big deal out of nothing, it will go away.

Wow. Someone likes his drama.

Okay I think you need to think about this more.
If you watch the comments on Twitch TV (or whatever else) you'll notice that a lot of people say they're tuning out because all of the foreigners are gone. The "true starcraft fans left" statement means that the people who remain to watch the games don't care about nationality or whether the players are foreigners or their favorites in general, but about the quality of the games. This is an objectively true statement. People who love the game, will watch pro players play the game regardless of their nationality. People who don't love the game, but rather the player, will tune out as soon as their favorite player loses. Therefore, if anything, that statement is against racism.
Weeded out the weak is a general statement that holds true at the upper stages of any tournament, and has nothing to do with race at all.
Thirdly, even if what you were saying was true, you would be generalizing 50,000 or more viewers by maybe a few dozen comments of a similar type? You should be careful before insinuating that the SC2 community is generally racist, because that's borderline slander. But thankfully for you most people will understand that you were probably a little quick to anger and didn't think your ideas through thoroughly enough.
Just as general advice I feel like you should practise logical thinking more, maybe do some more math, debate with other people...otherwise you'll be bound to make more of these kinds of mistakes and call people racist when they aren't racist at all.
I may as well add (because I'm not sure you would logically make this connection), that the consequences of calling someone racist when they're not are generally quite bad. As in it can lose you relationships, potential employment, reputation, etc.

There is plenty of racism, sexism and ignorance in all gaming communities. You don't need to invent some in an area where there is none.
|
Real Starcraft fans watch ANY game, fuck the nationality. All the weak Starcraft fans who only care about their favorite player and will leave an event after he/she loses because apparently quality of play is less important than"personality" deserve all the shit they get.

I'm not a Starcraft fan, I'm a fan of certain players.
