Hi, this is my first blog and I just wanted to ask for your opinion or advise if posible.
I'm currently trying to get my driver's license for motorcycles. I didn'T attempt the car license yet and only drove a scooter for 3 years. I'm having kind of a hard time, there'S lots of new things to watch out for.
Right now I have attended 9 lessons and I'm still not to good at it. Well, personally, I'm fine with having to take more hours, but everyday I come home my father tries to convince me to only take the neccessary extra lessons (highway, night, etc.), but I don't feel like I would be ready for the test. Usually he just keeps attacking me until I say something against it and I'm thrown out of the living room.
This makes me kinda sad. I don'T know what to do now. I'm sure I need a couple more lessons, but I don'T want to have fights with my family constantly.
Has anybody advice for me? How many lessons did you take?
Thanks for reading and have a good day

Well I didn't take any lessons really, just read some stuff online and I've been driving a motorcycle off public roads for 3 months or so, then again, getting your license in Germany is very hard I hear.
I suggest you do lots of research and reading online to get the most out of your lessons because blowing another 50-150 is pricey just to learn to bike.
Good luck either way though.

I didn't do motorcycle but I did take way more lessons than needed with Class B (regular cars), because I wanted to feel good about my driving, and safe. Thing was, I paid for the whole thing myself so of course it was my decision.
If you don't feel safe about driving I would ask you why that is, the general feeling of driving that fast compared to a scooter? Or more specific things?
generally I would expect a father to understand his kid when it doesn't feel safe yet so my answer would be: If you feel unsafe, do more lessons and maybe talk to your instructor about what he thinks about your driving. It should be possible to convince your father that it's the better way to do more lessons, but ofc I don't know your father gl

The with driving is that you don't really learn it until after you're done with your lessons. You have to be confident though. If you feel like you wouldn't comfortably be able to drive alone, then you probably aren't ready yet. It's safer for everyone if you just take lessons until you are comfortable and then take the exam.

It´s true that generally you only really start learning how to drive after your exam but that is only the case if you feel secure enough to handle all/most circumstances. If you feel secure enough about your ability and make a small mistake you´ll be able to correct it and know how to avoid/react to it the next time. Not only do you learn from it but you also get an extra boost to your confindence ("see how I handled that calmly and fixed it quickly? I´m good!"). If you make a small mistake and you panick it can get worse pretty quickly.
If you mentally don´t feel ready please take the extra lessons. Nobody (especially not your father) would want you to have an accident or be the cause of an accident on your first day out alone. If you are mentally not prepared your (nervous) reactions to unforseen things WILL cause an accident. Especially riding on a motorcycle as you don´t have the luxury of 4 wheels to stabalise yourself relatively quickly.

Do take more lessons. I failed my driving test 2 times because I was just so nervous about it. That is way more expensive and humiliating than taking more lessons.

I just got my motorcycle driving license! In fact it was last monday (October 8th). I basically took lessons for 1 month and a half. In France, we have 2 tests to pass before getting the License, one is what we call the "Plateau", basically it's a slalom between traffic cones, you have to go through them without the engine first (you have to push your bike), then you have to check some things on the bike. If you pass, you take another slalom at slow speed (1st gear) and if you pass that too, you have the fast slalom (around 50km/h). If you pass that, you can do the test where you have to go on the road throughout traffic and drive for around 30min in different environnements (highway, small roads, traffic circle...).
Basically everyone will say that you don't need to know how to drive before having your driving license, in fact you'll learn the real thing when you'll start driving on your own.
The MOST IMPORTANT PART of driving a motorcyle is your look. You have to look high and far. Never look at an obstacle, whatever it is, directly, look where you want to go and not what you want to dodge. Use the clutch and the accelerator in order to reach the biting point when you need to drive at slow speed, you'll control your bike better.
If you need further advice, ask people who already have their license. You have to take as many lessons as you need to feel confy and feel the bike. If you are afraid you won't control the bike good enough, don't drive until you do. I can try to help you as much as i can but i don't really know how the driving licence work in Germany so...
Be careful

Hi I've just passed test on Class B. It's a little different situation, but maybe that will help you. I felt very uncomfortable driving until very last lessons. I BARELY passed test on first try. I think out of 10 tries I would pass only 2-3 times. But there is a lot luck in this. What roads will examiner choose? How traffic will work? Will there will be any unusuall situations on road?
I also wanted to take more lessons, because I wasn't sure if i'm ready for test. I payed for myself, so there was no problems with my parents But I asked my instructor and he said I'm good to go (he wouldn't lie to me this way, and I got some trust in him). Maybe it's normal that you don't feel very comfortable before test?
My advice would be to ask your instructor. He has most experiece and maybe if he tells you that you need more lessons you can convince your father. Otherwise trust him! Worser then you passed, and better then you failed. Good luck!

I think the most important thing is to get a feel for the car you'll be driving for your test. Relax and you'll do fine... Best of luck!

Sounds like this is less a problem of taking the test and more a problem of moving out of your house. Do things your way, its your life.

I remember the time when i was doing my license for motorcycles. I was so bad, so uncomfortable on the bike etc. I didn't take any extra lessons cause the driving instructor told me at the end of the last lesson he thinks i'm ready. Long story short is that i passed but only because i had an really relaxed examiner. Later they told me that it's more important to not break any rules and that it is ok if they see that you are a bit uncomfortable as long as you don't fall of the bike or something.
My advice to you is: if you feel you need more lessons you should definately take them. Good luck!

You're a bad driver* and if you have an opportunity to be less bad, take it. You will be on a vehicle more dangerous than the average road-faring mechanism. I did not have any lessons because I'm an American, land of the free, liberty, terrible drivers, and fat people (and some other stuff). I wish I had taken lessons, and I probably still should.
Take all the lessons you can
Don't be a smear on the highway. Reduce your risk.
*This is not personal, but rather is based on my observations from over a decade of driving. There are very few good drivers, and most of them are paid to drive (specifically: to race; cabbies tend to suck, for instance).

Think about it: 6hours of lessons -> 120€ Failing the test once -> 200-300€ + You'll have to have 3-6 additional lessons again.
So be smart and convince your dad that failing because you feel uncomfortable is 300€ more expensive than taking some more lessons.

I took like 32 lessons or something. Most people I know took between 25 and 40. The exams are pretty damn strict, I don't think anyone can make it with 9 lessons unless one of your parents let you practice (illegal I think).
These people will fail you for anything. You're supposed to let go of the gas pedal and just let the car roll if you see a red light up ahead, a friend of mine failed his exam cause he used the brakes instead.
Pretty funny story btw. My dad's aunt failed her exam like 17 times, she was a total klutz. Most of em are pretty hilarious but my favorite one is when she wanted to shift gears and accidentally dragged her skirt up. The guy who held her exam thought she was trying to seduce him and failed her on the spot. (this was in the 60s)
